Which one wins games, tall forwards or smalls?

Not thrilled with the suggestion we’re interested in Allan with our first 2 picks. Happy for us to look at him later in the draft.

Also a bit concerned at the suggestion Essendon are interested in Hewett with their first.

Playing Devils Advokent, if Jones and Jefferson are on the board at 21 (not that I think Jefferson lasts that long) you'd have to take Jefferson right?

I rate Jones, but there's something that feels very dumb about taking a small forward/mid over a fairly decent rated tall if there's one available.

At this stage of our rebuild we should absolutely be prioritising the best talls available. We need mids too, but at this stage of our rebuild we need to get our spine locked.

Hotton has one of the cleanest set of hands in this cohort....i find that a trait impossible to ignore.
This trait is exactly what we need, youve sold me on Hotton. 2022 WC last in the comp for ground ball and post clearance contested possessions, we were the epitome of fumble fingers last year.

Think if Jefferson was at pick 21 he would be good value. Been rated top 10 in most rankings all year

Darling will be the number 1 target though. He's shown when Kennedy is out he is more than capable of this, and we don't need to protect his body like Allen's, because (i) he is getting on and (ii) he seems indestructible anyhow
He has mustard the roll out manouver which allows his body to take heavier hits.

I feel like if the club felt this way we would have kept pick 2 and gone for Cadman. We need talls and mids but looking at the top end of the draft this year it is far more likely we takes mids with our first 2 picks. Buss certainly a chance with one of those picks but hes more a 3rd tall than a KPD.

We wouldn’t have got Cadman at pick 2 as GWS now has pick 1 and have made no secret that it will be Cadman they take…..

GWS wouldnt have pick 1 if we didnt do the pick split trade though... I dont think North were that keen on Cadman so we prob could of got him

Free pick 12 to go back two spots?

I think they would’ve taken it with maybe some extra sugar on the sides thrown in.
It was reported on trade radio that GWS offered 3 & 12 to North for 1 when the mega trade fell over and North knocked it back

So Oleg Markov delisted by the Suns. Do we need more run? Maybe if Hurn decides to call it a day.

Would Norf have traded away Pick 1 if they didn't get Pick 2 from us though?

EDIT: What Spank2304 said
Think that’s why we got involved, Norf had indicated they were open to trading pick one and GWS wanted pick one and had the picks to do it. If you listen to the piemans interviews during trade week he felt the best result was to be involved in the GWS, North, Port deal.
Think once Cadman was going to be off the board and the two mummy boys had indicated they didn’t want to leave Victoria it was in our best interests to split the pick. Plus we grabbed a future 2nd & 3rd for Rioli. It wasn’t a bad deal

It would have happened GWS just needed to sweeten the deal
With GWS holding pick 1 and taking Cadman the eagles at pick 2 would have been looking at Sheezel and Wardlaw who are the players North are keen on. Moving to 3 from 1 for North only works because pick 2 was also included. North clearly wants first choice on those 2, which is why they are only putting pick 3 on the table for trade at the moment. If we wanted Cadman we could of made it happen.

While I get the idea of taking the talls first and then the mids due to their respective development times when starting a rebuild, you have to look at what the draft cohorts are like and where you sit in the order.
It would seem that this year and next we will be taking some top 10 picks but the draft class of 2022 is pretty low on tall talent and 2023 is apparently flush with quality talls. Given we have a good start on the talls with Bazzo and Hedwards in the back line and Allen + 2 x Williams as forward prospects then it makes sense to use our good draft picks on mids this year as that is where the quality is. Save the talls for next year where we will get the quality at our picks.
We also have a pretty good strike rate of unearthing quality talls from later picks and rookie picks, they dont all need to come from the top end of the draft.

Nah, ive been a fan of his but no way we'll pick up another HBFer
