But then isn't the inference that if we are prioritizing a defender over an onballer, that we require talls more so then we do midfielders?

This is entirely the problem: our recruiters/club seem to be lost as to to where we have long been deficient: the midfield

And not just in the midfielder, but in terms of contested ball, ground ball and tackling. All of which would be addressed if we prioritized the very type of player we keep ignoring over and over again with our initial picks: contested ball winning, big bodied midfielders that tackle and hit the scoreboard

Buslinger would be another failure to identify and address where we are breaking down. I am certainly not saying he cant play, but he just isn't the type of player that we most require

From memory I don’t think the Eagles have taken a pure centre bounce mid in the first round since 2013. Some may argue Chesser but he was more of a half back/wing

The only way we got Cadman was to grab pick one or if North took pick one off the table which they hadn’t.

We would have had to outbid GWS to get to Pick one. Don’t think that interested the Eagles. GWS had pick 3,12,15,18,19 plus future picks to grab it. They would have eventually made an offer North couldn’t refuse.

If you listen to the interviews over Trade Radio McCartney made it clear that certain Victorian based draftee’s weren’t interested in going interstate. ( Wardlaw/Sheezel)

Eagles would have had the same feedback in regards to Sheezel and Wardlaw so they had to the choice to either grab Tsatas, Ginbey,Clarke, McKenzie,Poo, Hewitt, Humphrey,Buss, Hollands at pick 2 or split the pick and grab 2 of them.

It’s the best result for us not to mention the fact we received a future 2nd & 3rd for Rioli.

The conversation about keeping pick 2 for Cadman Sheezle or Wardlaw is done …. 2 of them didn’t want to come and the other was going to be gone by our pick

Very intelligent post. I think that is clearly what happened and well done by our club to salvage the best from a bad situation.

I prefer to take best available so long as they want to play for us.

What a joy it's going to be watching the ball get delivered into that forward line 10 times a game only for it to immediately bounce out.

Good thing we stuck it to Port and lost our only quality, prime aged pressure forward for change.

Even a realistic lineup of:
  • Allen
  • Darling
  • Ryan
  • Cripps
  • Waterman
  • Williams
  • And a monthly cameo from Petch

Is going to function like a trampoline.

What exactly did you think the club should have done in that situation?

Have bailey Williams play FF out of the goal square and JD /Oscar leading up to the wings .

Need to start utilising BW more as a forward even if its a decoy and less on the bench when he is not rucking
I have been banging on about BW as a FF forever. It’s so logical but the club doesn’t seem interested.I read on BF somewhere that his old man was a well known country football FF in Victoria.People keep rabbiting on about his kicking for goals but that’s the least of his worries. He’s a good mark got nice candy tackles ok and if he can develop JKs intensity He’ll be a weapon!

Baily Williams barely shows enough as a ruck let alone as a forward. Comparing him to Josh Kennedy is ridiculous.

In other words we should've kept pick 2 and guarantee us taking the best available.mid.

totally defeats the purpose of sliding down the draft (fear of go home factor, let's target local talent) if any of that WA talent is taken b4 our first pick.

I know it's tough to swallow but the alternative was to take Sheezel Wardlaw or Tsatas who from all reports told us they didn't want to move interstate. So our club could only make the best of a bad situation. I posted about this a long while ago that the club was worried and would target locals.

BW is an absolutely terrible set shot at goal and has been since juniours

Maybe that may be what we address to a degree in who we draft.

Pace and pressure in our forward half is needed with one pick, likely one of our 2nds. And or the return of Jones forward.

"I've been saying Beailey William's should be a forward since forever gaiz.."

Despite the fact he's played forward plenty and shown even less in that role than he has in the ruck.

He's a 2nd ruck, he's SUPPOSED to be a reasonable forward. It's not a novel or unique idea, it's literally what every 2nd ruck is for 🤦‍♂️ Plenty of improvement to come hopefully.

On another note, anyone else think Culley should play in the midfield or just me? It's my idea, do you think Simmo could do it?

Phil is persona non grata at the Eagles, Bond is involved with the club.

A Victorian club.

Yes a Victorian club, but they certainly aren't involved before the eagles pick and I have no idea who the eagles are into. Not with any of their picks.

I can give my opinion based on experience in the past and what I think will happen. I can also give my personal opinion on who I would like us to draft.

Sorry for the 100 questions I've been off BF for ages -

You're a Perth based scout or similar?
