Hollands at 12 I could live with.

If we pick a better, bigger mid at 8.

Hewett and Hollands would be fine IMO. Bulldogs may look at Hollands at 11.

Clark and Hollands
Phillapou
McKenzie

Now Tsatas and Hollands. That would add some horsepower to the Eagles midfield along with Chesser.

Surely there is no chance Broadbent makes the rookie draft

Possible.

Will Freo look for to the present and prefer a mature, ready to go player? Or leave one or two spots open and look at train on players?

Will an interstate club relocate him or look more locally?

Hasnt had a great year.

Would jump at him in the rookie draft.

briztoon - if Ashcroft is matched at 2 and Fletcher at 16, how many points are you short?
Seriously, I have to do some math now?

Who is bidding on Fletcher, Collingwood or Sydney?

A bid at pick 2 requires 2014 points.

We currently have:
Pick 34: 542
Pick 35: 522
Pick 36: 502
Pick 38: 465
Pick 55: 207

So, picks 34, 35, 36 and 38 match the Ashcroft bid at pick 2. and gives us a residual points total of 17 points (which does NOT generate a late pick, as bids in the first round do NOT generate residual picks, but rather the points can be held over to match a another bid if necessary)

Pick 55 moves up to 52 and is now worth 246 points.

Plus we have a trade with North arranged (as per afl.com), which likely occurs after the Ashcroft bid. We send North one of our now late picks (which they will use to match the Harvey bid) plus a future 3rd round pick for their now pick 37, worth 483 points.

So we now sit at 746 points, and to match a bid at pick 16 requires 854 points.

So we are 108 points short.

But still have a future 3rd round pick we can trade in to this draft.

The more time goes on, the more I am hoping Clark ends up at our pick.

For mine, (outside of Ashcroft who we never had access to anyway) he seems to be the surest bet of making 200 games.

I always find it amusing; he’s compared so much to Joel Selwood, one of the better midfielders of all time and he probably doesn’t go top 5.

Phillipou is this weeks Allan hey?
Shame because I still think he's going to end up being in the top 2 or 3 from this draft.
Phillipou is this years Taranto/Kozi Pickett. Hype is well and truly in full swing. Half expecting North to call him out at one of their picks. No surprises it’s Essendon looking to go early on him either. The hype club themselves

We very likely traded down pick 2 due to the go home factor of the top talent and now we should draft Clark who will almost certainly end up back in Geelong.

I suspect we'll be picking WA boys with 8 and 12 at the very least. Will be two of Ginbey/Busslinger/Allan/Hewett

Country boy with strong leadership qualities doesn’t strike me as someone who will run home at first opportunity. Also not a Geelong fan either.

Plus, how often have we actually lost top talent to other sides? We’ve been prepared to back in ourselves to keep him once he’s here.

In my mind we pick best available.

"We’re looking for midfielders, I don’t think there’s any secret there so we’re looking in that space." West Coast football manager Gavin Bell on the club's draft focus.

Melts when who we want is off the board at 9 and we pick the slinger
Just wait until we turn Busslinger into a midfielder.

If the best defender in the draft is WA born and available at 8 (9), and Ginbey is off the board, we should absolutely draft him imo, no question about it.

Both Allan and Hewett almost certain to still be on the board at 12 (13).

Look I’m not against it either. What are your thoughts of ginbey hewett as a midfield combo long term?

West Coast have dropped a massive hint at what type of player they’re looking at bringing in during next week’s national draft.

The Eagles have two picks inside the first dozen, eight and 12, and another two in the 20s (20 and 26) in their strongest and most important draft hand in a long time.

The club’s football manager Gavin Bell said there was a strong midfield focus and felt there was plenty of that talent at the top-end of the national draft.

“We’re looking for midfielders, I don’t think there’s any secret there so we’re looking in that space,” Bell told SEN WA.

“And generally at the top of the draft, that’s where the best mids are.”

West Coast have been linked with big-bodied East Perth midfielder Reuben Ginbey and 194cm Claremont utility Ed Allan, the son of inaugural Fremantle captain Ben, with selections eight and 12 respectively.

Ginbey has attracted rival interest from Gold Coast (pick five), likewise with Allan who is being looked at by Geelong with pick seven.

Powerful Swan Districts mid Elijah Hewett, who trained with the Eagles earlier in the year as part of his AFL Academy commitments, is another West Aussie in the mix for the first round of the draft.

But Bell said the club wouldn’t be afraid to draft interstate talent and was confident in retaining them for the long-term.

“We pick the best player that we think is most suited to what we need to do,” Bell explained.

“I think we’ve got a reasonably good record at retaining our players.

“There’s guys that have gone home obviously and that’s going to happen but we certainly look at the list as a whole, work out who’s the best suited and then go from there.”

Absolutely agree, I just watched his highlights video (key board warrier after watching 2mins of footage!) and he looks solid, level headed and clean ball disposal.
Feel like he would be a great Shuey replacement.
Almost wish we kept pick 2 now to guarantee we got em.
Fingers crossed he slides to 8.

Yeah right pal - no one is allowed to have a moderate football opinion.

We’re a bottom 4 side - you’re saying he wouldn’t make us better? Some quality KPF depth at absolute worst?

Take a hike ya nutter - Cockburn is down the road. You’re better suited there.
Thanks…uncle??

What’s your thesis? Rebuilding through mediocrity?

Jeez the Ginbey Allan combination would be nearly last on my wish list out of what is available.
Both late bolters would be unlikely for the Eagles surely.

If busslinger wasnt from WA it would never be suggested that we draft him
He may turn out awesome but not a need for us
2 more years for gov
4 years for barrass
12 years for bazzo
No idea about edwards but I'm still hopeful and if he comes good the theres another spot taken for 10 years
Now if busslinger could play as a forward then itd makes sense
