Harry Taylor has left his position at Geelong as head of medical and conditioning services to return to WA for family reasons after one year in the role

Hopefully Nisbett is picking up the phone to him as I type - he’d be a great addition to the club

Had another chat with the same State WA coach from last time:

  • really rates Allan: incredible athlete, great character, insane work ethic, scope to move into an inside role not just outside, high ceiling. Aka not vanilla.
  • Ginbey will definitely get picked by us at 8, if available, assuming no sliders.
  • still thinks Hewett is not worth drafting based on character. Does rate his explosiveness, dual-sidedness, goal kicking prowess, etc. Top 10 on talent.
  • Broadbent’s shin splints were not the sole reason for his drop in performance, really rates himself and got ahead of himself assuming he’ll get drafted without putting the work in.
  • Freo will pick up a ruckman, most likely local boy Free/Freed (spelling?)
  • recruiters are currently using Hudl and Sportscode for drafting analyses
  • Edwards in next year’s draft crop a top 10 lock at this stage
  • Gilbey will get drafted, still rates him. Describes him as ‘smooth as silk’ and compares him to Hayden young from Freo.
  • Eagles have 3 WA recruiters (including Toddy Nesbit) based over here, plus ROB et al obviously over in Vic. Each comes up with their own top 20 lists, then will come together and fuse them into one top 20 list (plus ‘the rest’/needs based list for later picks) they go by on the night. This ‘fusion’ meeting happening at the end of the week.
  • Eagles will consider further trading into next year, if a suitable offer comes our way. Coach really rates next years crop highly.

Will be catching up again with him on Monday/first round draft day.

Thanks Spooky

His story is that his family moved from the Swan Valley to Claremont hence the move from Guildford Grammar to Scotch College.

Doesn’t seem to sinister to me and would be logical that a 17 year old living with his parents moves to the far closer (and superior ranked) private school.

Maybe the Reddit rumours and supposed “State coach” cynicism about Hewett’s character are being planted by West Coast a la Darling nightclub fight and school camp sex romp all the way back in 2010?
A private school boy that's been to two private schools! Twice as good as someone who's only been to one. Checks out. Draft him.

No they are not, he was expelled for grabbing a girl who spilled water on him.

He does suffer from overconfidence which in itself is not a bad thing and something I think a preseason with some veterans would quickly put an end to. The kid is a top 10 talent that may go un-drafted, it's not a Darling like situation.

Could be a great player or wasted talent.

Any thoughts on James Van Es if we could get him as a later option to provide some KPD depth if HEdwards doesn't work out?

Would happily draft Van Es late. But is a pure lockdown and spoil. Can be led around a bit but has been able to overcome that against his peer group with great speed. Has very poor skills. I don't think he lasts to the rookie draft and would only look at him there but only as an option if we don't think Edwards will make it.

Would likely need a few years of development so he is more proactive than reactive and to get more body on body as he will get caught out at AFL level. The problem with Key defenders without great skills now is you have to surround them by guys with elite skills. However he does have a couple of elite AFL characteristics in his speed and jump.

Think he gets picked up after our fourth pick but before we have another due to a bit of a dearth of key defenders and clubs needing them.

However one of the key things with very late picks or rookie picks is you are chasing guys with elite characteristics at AFL level.

If Gold Coast take Ginbey, does that open up the possibility of Allan and Hewett with our first two picks?

Wouldn't be opposed to this outcome.

If GC go Ginbey over Humphrey it likely means the Hawks take him, leading to the likely slide of Tsatas to say St Kilda?

Might be able to get away with a Mackenzie/Hewett combo if that was the case and the threat of the saints taking Hewett is minimised.

Are people really saying Hewett could go undrafted?

I just did.
Clubs have ruled a line through him.

But I do doubt he'll go undrafted because he is talented.

So you think adding a truckload of money to Hewett will fix his issues? I'm honestly not following.
I'll spell it out for you. A kid with questionable character now, is no less or more likely to have issues than a kid who interviewed the best. I know of current well known players who were peachy clean in there draft year, who are now off the rails (or on them should I say)

From foxsports:

"Reigning premiers Geelong are set to enter 2023 with three of its key football personnel no longer at the club.

Foxfooty.com.au has confirmed Harry Taylor is departing the club after one year, which was spent as head of medical and conditioning services.

The premiership star is returning to Western Australia to be closer to his family."

Surely we have made enquiries. Not saying Taylor is our savior in regarding to medical and conditioning, but we would be foolish not to ask the question

Head of medical and conditioning?

Don’t we have a vacancy in that area that we were reportedly talking to someone about?

There's no way you have anything concrete to back that up with. Clubs consider character for a reason.

Serious go-home behaviour. Would he be able to leave his house each day?

But also, is he qualified?

I've plenty of evidence. I just choose not to be the arseh*le who want to ruin careers for doing what half of his peers are doing. Get in the real world mate, they're all on it

We need to be all over that.

I don’t know what his qualifications are, but :

1) He is an absolute quality individual and you can’t have enough people like that at a footy club
2) He knows what success looks like
3) Geelong just won a flag in part because they were able to successfully manage their senior players so that they were fit in September. An inability to do that in previous years hurt them. Taylor reportedly played a key role in that this year

He might not be interested and maybe prefers to sink tinnies with JK in Gero, but if we haven’t or don’t ask the question it’s a failing of management
