8 - Ginbey
12 - Hewitt / Allan

That’s a win. A lot of upside balanced with equal risk. Hopefully get the 3rd of them at the next pick. People want a ready made Bont/Dusty/Trac - that’s isn’t a thing. There were risks with all those picks. Capturing the above exposes us to that potential.

Not sure about that.

The picks in isolation are ok ish, but as a collective they don't really address our most pressing need needs.

Ginbey a HBF with midfield potential ( where have I heard that before ) at the next level, if he can become a mid, then a good pick, so jury is out on that one. ❓
Hewett a genuine midfielder. :whitecheck:
Cowan a HBF. ❎
Gilbey a HBF. ❎

I think that Gilbey is a very injury prone player and as much as I like he foot skills I think there is better value at that pick.

Now if one of either Gilbey or Cowan was replaced with someone like Szybkowski, Hustwaite, Hotton or Bergiel that would be a much better mix.

At worst that haul gives us 3 HBF and 1 genuine midfielder, I will be disappointed if we don't come away with 2 genuine midfielders from this draft cohort.

As has been alluded to on numerous occasions in debate on Ginbey previously.... if he can transition into a serviceable midfielder, then he warrants pick 8/9, however if he cant make that transition, then we effectively have used our best draft pick in over a decade on another Duggan ...... I am not sure that will thrill the masses.

Conversely IF Ginbey can make the transition to becoming an inside bull midfielder, then the Ginbey/Hewett pairing will look like an astute piece of drafting.

So as with all drafting, its merit will be answered in terms of success, in the fulness of time.
Ginbey does have height/size and speed on Duggin so hopefully he can become that serviceable midfielder 🤞🏻

If we picked Allan and Hustwaite in the draft with Culley already on our list our midfield would have some serious height.

Hustwaite may never make it as a mid. He may also not make it in defence. I like him as a player but isn't outstanding in any area really (other than clean hands in tight) and isn't overly athletic or agile. Average kicking.

Allan to me is very low chance of being a true inside mid at AFL level and with current contested possession and lack of results is a high level of being a bust IMO as well. Weak body on body.

Ginbey again, low production, back first before becoming a mid. Less chance of being a bust but may just become a hard line enforcer down back. Don't like his kicking.

So yeah we'd have an incredibly tall midfield with 2 key components being slow and lacking agility and a guy who is known for shirking a contest but brilliantly quick but not so much in games.

I am sure thats the plan, if we draft him.

Plans, however don't always go to plan as per " The Brander Miscalculation ".

I have no doubt that Ginbey will become an AFL quality player, rather my question is in which position, don't get me wrong I am more than happy to draft him, but on the proviso that we take at least one other genuine midfielder in the haul.

I like Ginbey's feisty and aggressive attack on the ball and man, it's a playing characteristic that our list is short on.

Hustwaite uses the ball really well particularly in the 18s games I watched. But yes would agree that his agility isn’t great needs to grow not his body a bit more.

I haven’t seen enough of Allan to be honest to know if he shirks the contest or not.

There seem to be a lot of kids available at our picks that don't appear to have the same issues.

Like it or not, evaluating draftees as people and not just talent is part of the process. If we skip Hewett based on this then so be it. Hardly any of us have the full story so we're all just guessing anyway.
Bailey Smith was your typical model citizen at Xavier.....?

4 yrs on and he's a tosser with a drug problem.

Plenty of cash and celebrity lifestyle has turned many a kids with 'not the same issues' into an issue.

Would we go Humphrey if he slides to 8? I like the sound on a mid/fwd combo if he is likened to a Martin/degoey type. Kills two birds. Think from memory there hasn't been much chatter about him being one that is desperate to stay in Vic. If gc go ginbey instead of Humphrey who else would snap him up? Maybe hawks?

Essendon the pou

Hawks ???
Geelong Clark or Buss

So true.

Now let us look at this year’s draft - the early first round is full of midfielders with a sprinkling of half forwards.

Now let us look at next year’s draft - the first round is full of talls with a good range of everything represented throughout. Deep on rucks early mid and late.

Even the Pieman on his SEN interview said that. Relax.
This is why I love your take on us taking Balanced midfielders early this draft, of which there looks like several quality options.

Want a tall forward? take Keeler in the 20s. A Ruck? Take Foster in the 70s. Purely Inside Mid? D'Aloia may even make it to the rookie list.

I'd prefer we go small this year with an eye on taking Curtin next year.

Just heard gc list manager speak about ginbey, looks like he'll go there

Why dont wce just tell ginbey/hewitt/allen that they dont want to leave WA like the vic kids????

Ginbey even says himself he doesn't think he's a top 10 pick and is surprised he's rated that highly. Says so in that draft interview.

He's Honest if anything.

This is one of the ticks on him, speaks very well, maturely. Good leadership qualities.

GC dont care they accept retention is a part of their club ...they go with it But sooner then later there will be less go home factor , soon in flag contention ......

So you think adding a truckload of money to Hewett will fix his issues? I'm honestly not following.

Never wanted to believe that the reason for trading down the order was to draft Ginbey as reported, but the club saying we'll pick the WA player if there are multiple similar options was a big hint...
Would seem like he is a lock if he's available at our 1st pick.

I was too delusional to think that we'd pick whoever was available out of Phillipou, Clark, Mackenzie and Humphrey...

too good to be true disney GIF

Any thoughts on James Van Es if we could get him as a later option to provide some KPD depth if HEdwards doesn't work out?

I’d rather draft a bloke who says he’s a top 10 talent than one who either plays the fake humble card or just genuinely believes he isn’t a top 10 talent, I can understand Ginbey believing that though, because he isn’t someone we should take at 8

I’m not sure whether people are just making things up, but I know he has moved school once or twice, so people speculated he was quietly expelled due to bullying / harassing girls

I think it’s very dangerous to say that’s true with absolutely zero proof other than someone saying it on Reddit but yeah, who knows
His story is that his family moved from the Swan Valley to Claremont hence the move from Guildford Grammar to Scotch College.

Doesn’t seem to sinister to me and would be logical that a 17 year old living with his parents moves to the far closer (and superior ranked) private school.

Maybe the Reddit rumours and supposed “State coach” cynicism about Hewett’s character are being planted by West Coast a la Darling nightclub fight and school camp sex romp all the way back in 2010?
