So how many selections are we making at the rookie draft today with Trew and Winder retained? 1?
None it would seem. We have two remaining rookie list spots, both of them will be taken up by Trew and Winder

I’d expect us to sign Jordyn Baker and Tyrell Dewar as Cat B rookies. I think these are usually announced after the rookie draft from memory

Jesus, I don't like that!

We had done such good work this draft too. Keeping Winder on by himself maybe, but Trew? I have a hard time believing that there is nobody available in the rookie draft that wouldn't be an upgrade on him

Disappointing

Zane Trew's last 10 WAFL games. Not exactly screaming out pick me when you can't get 20 touches as a midfielder...

Yeah - I didn't like what I saw of Trew. Got absolutely gifted two AFL games and did nothing. Looks like a slow, plodding inside mid. We've just drafted a bunch of quick, big bodied inside mids, so I see absolutely no need for him.

Winder I'm happy to keep. Kid has some talent, just needs to get his focus and fitness sorted. Hopefully being shunted to the rookiee list is the wakeup call he needs.

Winder, fine.

Trew, well I just hope we don’t pass up the next Ryan / Kelly by retaining him and miss out or spend a high draft pick on them next year.

Rookies should usually be somewhat speculative, and delisted after 1 or 2 years if they don’t show significant improvement. Not sure Trew has shown this.

If we do re-draft winder and trew it to me points to us wanting the Beagles to have more success next season .

Bringing in 2 more raw kids in the rookie draft isn't going to help us win wafl games .

I think there will be a push across all eagles teams afl , Wafl , Aflw to win more games after the recent disasters of seasons

Plus with next year being a deeper draft there is more chance of better talent slipping through to rookie spots next year.
Give them one more year to prove themselves and if not then they get the boot.
Don't mind it.

Not melt worthy, but it’d be a pretty disappointing thing to pass on some of the talent still available so we can keep Zane Trew lol

Winder I’m fine with persisting with as at least he’s versatile and offers something a little different

I really do wonder if Gilbey’s injury is far worse than what we’ve been told, otherwise I don’t see why we wouldn’t be snapping him up

Ignoring Gilbey, the redrafting of Trew is baffling. Last season showed he was rated even below top-up players on our list. I guess there's either monetary reasons, or that he's 20 and may be a late bloomer a la Hutchings.

Hard to see why we would pass over Sam Gilbey with our first rookie draft pick tomorrow

Would round our draft out nicely
Well this post aged well😳

Don’t know if this has already be asked but can we watch the rookie draft anywhere ?

Regarding Trew & Winder - could it be that those on the inside at WCE know the past 2 seasons have a been a complete shambles and so are thinking that Trew & Winder have not really had a good chance to.show their wares or improve and therefore possibly have more upside than we've seen so far...

This is my thinking as well

Winder I’m fine with and had actually hoped we gave him a new contract at the end of the season. I little less enthused about Trew but maybe if he gets his body right he can show what had many of us excited when he was picked up in the RD two years ago

It’s a bit anticlimactic but when they both came back to preseason training last week it should have been more obvious than we realised they were going to be redrafted

Good luck to both of them. Hope they repay the faith and justify the decision

I'm sympathetic to this view the only issue is Trew has an enormous amount of competition to break into the midfield now. He's not had the best base so he's not really ahead of anyone either.

Winder has at least improved and built a body of form, which is why I was surprised he wasn't offered another year on the main list.

There is no chance that what he does next year (he's not going to be a star in the WAFL), if he wasn't on our list, stop us from being the ones to pick him up as a rookie at the end of next season. No other club is going to jump in ahead of us. He could even stay and play with the Beagles.

Find the prospect of Hagan being taken very unlikely.

Too small and too few tricks forward of the centre. Will have a good WAFL career if he wants it.

Don't need him as Dewar will be taking a smallish fwd role.

This is not to say Hagan is not seriously talented, just don't want to become a competitor to Freo's seasons wrap video - "2022 - on tiptoes we can see the promised land".

Should have passed on the final RD pick, kept them as train-ons over summer and then signed one as a SSP.

Look I get that, I'm as mystified as the rest of you that we're not taking the opportunity for basically a free-swing at someone else.

There are going to be some nervous players who are out of contract this year. Keys recently posted about 15 or so who’s contract is up.

The likes of Petruccelle Rotham Waterman Witherden SPS etc better start delivering. By this time next year, I believe over half our list will have been drafted in the last 3 years

Yep.

I only have Petch in my current starting 23.

If next year's draft is a super draft as suggested and we already have 5 picks, another 8-10 players will either (should) retire or will be delisted.

Rotham Waterman withered and sps can play in the Magoo's.

There has to be more to it with Trews retention, surely

The club have been playing ducks and drakes alot regarding contracts over the past few years, might Trews rookie listing be a reworking of an existing contract?

I am clutching at straws here
