When we bring in players specifically from other clubs, we make them adjust to a new position and new game plan rather than play them in the preferred position.

Draftees is a bit different, but we seem to always roll out the veterans in the same positions year on year. Shuey and Kelly could be damaging forwards but they’ve played in the guys for their full TOG. Meanwhile a young player coming through has had to play hff.

IMO this has led to our lack of midfield depth.

When in a flag window that is what clubs should do.

We have finally woke up and accepted we arent there any more and are changing strategy. Thats why Culley spent time on ball at CB's and Gaff finally moved back to the wing / flank.

Very few draftees walk straight into the centre square set up and immediately displace veterans. How many can you name from other clubs who have done this? The ones that can and do are top 5 picks who are physically developed. We havent had a top 5 pick in over 10 years.

Now make that 11 years

He seems very much like bobby Hill. Too small to impact at afl level except getting on the end of other work .

The gap is size just out grows these players from u18s to afl level .

Great highlight package though

I think he can be like a Daniel Kerr through the midfield as he has pace , skills and smarts plus doesn’t mind kicking goals ..

If Jones can have a Bolton-like impact then he would justify a pretty early selection. He looks good to me.

Can he hit the scoreboard as reguarly, or will he be more of a Zac Fisher? Interesting player to watch develop.

Bolton plays a lot taller than he is, I don’t see that with Jones. I do rate Jones however, just not with our first couple of picks.

It's all to look after the minnow clubs. For the elite competition in the country it's a joke, if you can't afford to compete in the elite competition you don't belong in the elite competition. The AFL is being held back by these clubs but are too scared to force them to sink or swim.

How much money is being poured into rule changes and studies into HIAs by the AFL for fear of future law suits?
Its all about player welfare they screech. Yet they turn around and deliberately handicap all clubs from being able to provide the best medical care they can with the soft cap. They are stopping the clubs from spending money they have to ensure their products (players) are given the best chance to stay on the ground.
It beggars belief. Just to accommodate povo clubs who cant balance their books, they compromise the whole competition and the health of their players.
What they should be doing is removing any cap on medical employment and if some of the povo clubs are being dis-advantaged and aren't able to hold onto decent medicos, the AFL should provide some assistance in that area. Or ship them off to tassie.

Jones tested elite in vertical and running vertical jumping at the combine.

So he has the tools to play taller than 175cm. Like Bolton does.

Does he use that skill often in games? I don't know. Others who watch him live may be able to add an opinion there.

This has us taking
Busslinger
Allan
Jones

Only goes to 25 with Hewett still on the board. Hawthorn and Collingwood with picks before our next chance to take him. Keeler, Barnett and Konstanty also still available

Ginbey taken by Gold Coast with a suggestion Essendon might take him before that. Melbourne said to be interested in Allan if we don’t take him

I think there’s going to be very few phantom drafts that don’t have us taking some combination of Ginbey, Busslinger, Hewett, Allan and Jones

I doubt O’Brien will be that predictable

If GC or Essendon want Ginbey before 8 they're welcome.
If Melbourne want Allan in the teens they're welcome.

Leaves better players for us.
