Both. Harley beat up an underage defender v WA. In games where he beat players like McKercher he did not as a midfielder but as a forward.

People on this board have ignored the criticism of Reid's midfield game.

If we took McCercher when Tassie come in they could offer us a fair bit lol

Why would you want to develop a player for 4-5 years only for them to leave and replace them with more kids who could or could not end up being good?

I like McKercher a lot, but I’d be very cautious drafting him. His agent will line up his contract extension for when Tasmania enter the competition.

Possibly, he doesn't look in good shape atm.

He got concussed, missed a couple weeks, was rested forward for nearly the entirety of his first champs game, then tore apart the second champs game in front of WA fans and WC recruiters (you’d think if he didn’t want to come here he wouldn’t of showed up to the extent he did), then went off early in todays game with a gip complaint and didn’t do much

He definitely hasn’t had an amazing champs overall, but it’s still clear to me he’s the best player in this pool and will be long term

Just watched replay of WA Metro game.

Curtin is a must.
Watson is a must

Both will go either/or 3, 4 immediately after Reid and Walter.

If we want Curtin we need pick 2.

Sanchez has something.
Tholstrope ok I guess
Hall meh
Livingstone meh

No way I am giving up pick 1 now, unless norf give us 2 and 3 (possible AFL compo for either being shit again or compo for some sucker team paying overs for McKay) .

Then I'm trying to pry gold coast pick 5 with point swap.

2,3,5

Then I'm taking curtin, watson, sanders

When I wake from the dream, slap me.

I'm not sure. He may be the best, but he could just as easily be like Jake Stringer. Still very good, but frustrating too

You could do this with every potential draftee, there’s never any guarantee obviously.

I think Reid’s game is made for the AFL though and he’s too versatile to not be a high impact player somewhere.

Curtin is having an impressive champs.

That said, I still feel Reid will be the best talent in the pool.

Take him, then try and trade up with our other picks to speed up the rebuild.

Bingo

Not sure why people act like the only way we can get more picks is by splitting 1. We have the capital to go after the Suns 1st. We can move Barrass for Sydney’s 1st etc.

The AFL’s circle jerk standalone Vic Country vs Vic Metro game next week is now a dead rubber with the Allies win today.

Look for the Hun and the rest of the VFL media to have a fresh assault on the Northern State academies this week (even though two of the Allies best kids are from the Apple Isle).

They’ll be saying that NSW/ACT and Queensland should have standalone teams in the National Championships.

The 20th best midfielder in the draft will still have a good output compared to spuds we have persisted with.😘

Ball-winning midfield - top #5.
KPF's - try to get one inside the top 10, preferably top 5.
Small forwards - 5- 15. If using a top 10 pick they have to be in Rankine, Rachelle, Watson territory
Outside mids - 10 - 20
KPDs - 10 - 25
Rucks - 15 - 30
Flankers - 25+

Generally speaking.

The rest of your picks - either best available, fill gaps, or a combo of both.

The problem with your post:

1. You mentioned West. He was drafted at 23 in the rookie draft. He's a speculative pick unlikely to come off.

2. You make out we have been "persisting with him" as if we can off load him and magically find an A-grade midfielder in his place.

3. He's not AFL standard but I have Trew, XON, Winder, Edwards and then a few old war horses closer to the chopping block.

What do you want? What's your expectation? The gun mids invariably come from the top 5 in the draft. We didn't have a top 10 pick in a decade. Who do you think we should have picked? Warner? It's easy to look at a draft in hindsight, but no one knew how good he was going to be. You can't just pick winners all the time. No club is doing that.

We've picked up

2018 - XON #28, Foley #31, BBW #35, Cameron #39 (our first pick was #23 but we traded it to GC for #28 and #35)
2019 - Jamieson #49, Johnson #58, traded in TK
2020 - Edwards #52, Winder #57

2021 - Chesser at #14, Hough #31, Bazzo #37, Williams #57, Culley #1 (MSD)
2022 - Ginbey at #9, Hewett #14, Barnett #23, Burgiel #23, Long #58, Maric #1 (MSD)

Go have a look at the 2018 draft. There's not much going on. It was a bust for us after pick 28, as it was for 17 other clubs.

You're triggered for no reason.

McKercher with 32 disposals, 8 clearances, 6 inside 50s and two great goals.

I reckon he had a couple of goal assists, and laid some strong tackles too.

Extremely impressive game from him.
Yeah, he was huge. Those two goals were utter class, his left foot is lethal.

Can we just have him, Harley and Curtin...

Geez, imagine that.

AFL website saying a lot of clubs have Colby just behind Reid, so it'll be interesting to see if the holder of pick 2 takes him with Tassie on the horizon. He looks the best midfielder imo

Tassie's 5 years away.

That's even if he wants to go back. Not many do after leaving.

Let’s not get too greedy.

I’d settle for 2 of that 3. 😎

If we split, we need to guarantee ourselves one of Curtin or McKercher! Hawks pick could be the one (especially if Norf are into McKercher), pick 3 and take Curtin and add their next year First. Likely to be 2-6, we'd then have say 1 and 4 next year.
So we go tall this year and then some great midfield options next year in Draper and Smillie we could target.

Brockman likely steak knives too, so Brockman and Curtin this year and F1 next.
