Really shouldn’t matter what pick we used, but he’s kicked 60 goals in his last two seasons and he’s in the prime of his career.

Cripps kicked 27 last year which is decent but other than that, do we want to keep running the same spuds that have kept us to SFA wins?
Cripps will be gone soon. Ryan could be too with another underwhelming season ,especially with a few nga guys coming through
Owies, long, dewar is a decent starting point tho

Cripps isn't a small crumbing forward like Owies either. Cripps best work is getting up the ground, not at the feet of the talls.

Haven't had a small crumbing forward of any note since Rioli.

Plus I think he's actually gonna put in an effort to make sure the ball stays inside our 50. Our efforts to keep the ball locked in the 50 in resent years have been repulsive.

Owies isnt really a crumbing forward, he was just the only small forward Carlton had that knew anything about positioning.
Carlton tried a few different options during the year to be that crumber, its just not Owies natural role.

He seems very similar to Cripps, but hes just not as good. He gets as many goals as he does because hes been basically the #3 target inside 50 for Carlton.
He will at least tackle and pressure for us, if we want a crumber hes not really our guy though

Owies is closer to Cripps and he isn't a specialist crumbing small forward.

Owies like Cripps gets up the ground and back using work rate to get involved and lose his opponent. He also pushes deep to provide a leading option in the chaos. He isn't a stay at home small running at the feet of the tall forwards. And not sure he can provide an on ball rotation late in games as Rioli can.

Owies is as close to a Cripps replacement as you can get IMO.

If Chad fletcher played for Brisbane, briztoon would list him as elite.
Remember that Brisbane fan on here who would regularly argue that Patrick Karnezis was a better prospect than Jack Darling. Think it was SizeMatters IIRC. He was so adamant about his convictions.

Great article and well worth a read especially in light of our move to restructure our recruiting department that includes a stated intent to increase our use of data analytics

Laughing and crying at the OP:

Karnezis on the other hand was a nobody, an unknown who had everybody rushing to the phantom drafts to see who the heck he was. A very controversial pick as the Lions were expected to snap up Darling who would have "solved" the Lions forward problem for 10 years. In most phantom drafts he was not even acknowledged in the ND/Rookie or PSD.

Legit sounds like a West Coast pick. Like swap Karnezis for almost any so-called midfielder we drafted between the Darling draft and maybe the year we snapped up Hewett.

A quick ChatGPT 167 word version for anyone else that hasn't got time for the full 3,486 word article:

With the AFL Draft approaching, clubs face a tough decision among a talented but even group of midfield prospects. History shows that despite similar starting points, players’ careers can vary significantly, making draft picks risky. Talent in AFL isn’t just about skill but includes attributes like athleticism, tactical awareness, and mental resilience.

Data analytics is reshaping talent evaluation in the AFL, as seen in the journey of “Bailey,” a data analyst working for an AFL club. Starting with a self-built player rating model at a state league club, Bailey’s innovative approach led to recruitment success and a role at an AFL club. Their work includes using advanced performance metrics and creating custom models to identify top prospects.

Despite analytics’ growing role, psychological traits remain crucial but hard to measure. Clubs strive to balance data insights with traditional scouting, a blend essential for drafting success. As AFL clubs embrace analytics, they enhance their ability to make informed decisions, ultimately improving the game’s quality for fans and players alike.

To be fair, Karnezis never dropped a mark in the goal square in a grand final. so who's the real draft winner?

Cripps also made the ball look like a bar of soap in a heck of alot of games last year.

Anyone putting pressure on him to clean that up to an acceptable afl level will be a very welcome addition.

Don't you dare take out lord and saviour's name in vain!

He'll come round and train your house the **** down if you don't show some respect.
If he had managed to kick a goal from 40m out in the last quarter of the 2018 GF that would have put us in front then he would be a legend and not Dom Sheed.

I was so disappointed when he missed that set shot. Not just because I was crapping myself (as we were still behind), but I knew if he'd done it he'd go from whipping boy to hero. I'm sure he knew it too, but he choked, so he will always be a whipping boy.

What can you tell us about these lads? Would be great to uncover a Stephen Michael type. Or a Ted Kilmurray.
McGlade is a dynamic, evasive, proper crumbing small forward with very good skills.

Kenh is a 185cm ish half back with a great athletic profile, he provides a lot of run/rebound out of the back line and possesses a beautiful left foot kick. AA under 16
