We need to word up Elijah Hewitt, tell oppo recruiters he only wants to stay in Perth.

TBH hewett is probably not in the top couple of mids ranked in the country and probably behind Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Tsatas and Ryan at this stage. I would be really happy if we end up with a top 2 pick splitting it and ending up with Hewett and Broadbent. With broadbent being one of the youngest in his potential draft class and likely the youngest to be drafted he may grow a bit above his listed 202cm. Broadbent could very well be the next Cox like ruckman as he has great skills.

There’s a very big floor in this plan.

Ben Brown - 47
Tom McDonald - 53
Ash Hansen - 38
Quentin Lynch - Rookie

If you simply prioritise your midfield, it won’t matter how late your KPF were drafted.
I wouldn't be happy with Ben Brown & Tom McDonald. Both are what I would classify as playable but not guys who will dominate the competition or win games on their own. Theres a reason both North and Melbourne wanted to trade them out.

As much as I love those guys Lynch was barely playable, Hansen too. They benefited a lot from a dominant team around them and while essential to structure never would have been top 10 Key Fwds in the comp at any stage.

Having seen all of the above mentioned now play, I still have him ahead of them.
But early days still and Vic guys I expect to have heaps of growth over the year, as missed a lot of footy.

Brown did kick 60+ goals three seasons in a row, he's not a superstar but he's more than a role player. North aren't exactly known for their good list management either.
Point being you don’t need the comps best KPFs to win premierships. You might need top 10 draft picks to take superstar KPFs but I feel like there’s a much lower correlation between superstar KPFs and flags as there is with superstar midfields and flags.

It wasn’t during that first season or two - he was huge but has plateaued/gone backwards
pretty common thing at Port it seems. Wingard and Wines burst on to the scene then dropped off the radar a few years later. Wingard was a dual AA by like 22 and has never been close to elite since. Wines only recently started living up to his potential too

We won a flag in 2018 with superstar talls and a middle rung midfield.

Richmond had Dusty but I think it was their talented talls that stood out more than the rest of their midfield. Other than Dusty, the rest were middling.

You could also make a similar argument with Hawthorn. Mitchell was a gun but Lewis and Sewell were nothing special. Buddy and roughead on the other hand...

So with Nic injured does this affect our mid season draft strategy?

Do we look at a mature ruck as added cover?

I hope we look at what best young talent is emerging. A lot of kids who never got the exposure in 2020 and 21. Even mature players under 25. Im sure we have tabs on a few. Mids great but if we can get the jump on a young tall mid season do it.

Yep no way Richmond win any flags without Dusty. And just look at our team with JK and Darling they have scored heavily over the years when the ball gets in but never really got in enough because of our midfield. Yeo and Shuey had a great year in our premiership year.

You really love your Ruckmen don't you?

I don’t think Darling is a superstar tall. Hawthorn also won 2 flags without Buddy.

As a Bulldogs supporter I would be shattered if he left
I think that is the issue. English is a guy who is playing well at the moment and has trade value, but as a club we need to start rebuilding through the draft. We have a history of paying well for traded in players. I can't see a way that we land English without acting like Geelong at the trade table and leaving you guys upset or acting like West Coast at the trade table and leaving us frustrated.
