Let's talk who potentially goes (at this stage) rather than who comes in.

For me, to accelerate this rebuild we need to have, i definitely think Shuey/Redden need to join Hurn and Kennedy out the door at the end of 2022.

It should be Shuey. At least Redden is durable, Shuey is injury prone and we're just inviting him to be on the sidelines again next year.

Retire - JK, Hurn, Shuey,

Delist - Trew, Jamieson, Nelson (OOC)

Redden will be 32+ going into next year as well, so flip a coin on that one, depending on how our list is.

Looking at the talent on our list, 2023 is going to be painful. But with our draft picks this year, along with Clark, Chesser etc etc we'll eventually start seeing the new generation on the field.

There is no way everyone at the club is fine with how Darling and the vaccination situation played out. From seeing a doctor about a work place injury to suddenly being vaccinated with minimal communication, it was all pretty messy.

Throw in we're rebuilding (no one will be thinking we're a flag chance) and he's 30 now and he's an obvious one to ship out that another club would value. Someone like the Dogs would love him.
Darlings contracted until 2024 and is on about $750 000 per year.
He ain't going anywhere, especially with JK more than likely to retire.

He won the Larke medal for best kid at the U18 Championships, 1 point ahead of Luke Jackson.

There were some handy inside mids he played against. This kid called Rowell, and some kid who plays for Freo and won a rising star. He actually beat up on Serong, to the point that VIC country moved Serong out of the midfield and in to the forward line in the second half, because Serong couldn’t do anything inside.

Now he’s stuck behind Lachie Neale and Jarrod Lyons.
From what I've seen he's very strong around the ball, and knows how to find it.
Probably his disposal isn't great, but for an inside mid you can get away with that.
I'd happily part with pick 20-25 for him. Projects as a Jack-Redden type, possibly a little better

Bruhn is a good young midfielder

Go through the last 10 years worth of drafts and count how many top 10 picks you’d have over English and Bruhn. Give me the trades every day of the week.

Just look at Fremantle and their bounty of top 10 picks - Logue, Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong, Young, Henry - I’d have Bruhn and English over all of them
Bruhn may very well be a good mid, but he's no more proven than someone you take at say pick 5. He' played mainly as a forward in his dozen or so games so far, and while he's shown glimpses you'd be hard pressed to say he's stamped himself yet.

Deven Robertson was pick 22 in 2019 and has played 18 games early in his third season. He'll probably play a few more this year but their midfield bats deep.

If he was our player, we'd take a low offer. We took Koby Stevens at pick 23 then traded him for pick 44 3 years later. We traded Ebert for pick 28 and he played 76 games in 4 years.

If we have picks 5, 25, 30 and 45 for example, we'll probably part with pick 25 because that's what Brisbane would like to get in return.

Clean out at seasons end both coaches and players

Retire Natauini, Hurn, Kennedy, players to be moved on cripps, nelson, question marks over these players darling, gaff, shuey, redden

Too many players past their best and on the decline, need to get as games into the youth for the remainder of the season
Keep Cripps, he shows consistent effort, does the hard running and 1%'ers, players a difficult role quite well, is 30 this year so not over the hill yet, I we share a birthday. We need to keep players like him, and some experience.
Bit trigger happy on Nic Nat. He's won our last two B&Fs. And no obvious replacement yet.
If Shuey has another season of 10-12 games then I think it might be time. Either way I think one of Shuey, Redden or Gaff needs to be turned over in some form, to get some younger bodies in midfield. Think Redden and Gaff are highly likely to stay on though.
Darling I'd happily trade if we can get something decent for him, you'd think he could still be valuable for a team in contention, it is time to load up in the draft and it's one of the rare cases where you can easily justify moving on a very experienced player without getting people offside.

So I think:
JK, Hurn, Shuey retire
Redden 1 yr contract if form is decent. Then retire
Darling for pick c.20
Nelson retained as depth. He has no currency otherwise, and you need depth players
Nic Nat 1 yr, Gaff stays on, as does Cripps.
That's 4 out the door with a couple younger players facing the chop too.

If Shuey remains fit I don't mind him playing on but any more long term injuries than that's it. Maybe play him forward to take some of the pressure off.

I think Nic Nat can continue to play on and on, he just needs a mobile Ruckman partner to help carry the load better, we are a +20% team
when Nic Nat is out there and it really shows when he isn't.

We need to draft a number 1 ruckman with a view to nic nat teaching and supporting them. Weve had plenty of part timers and forwards/rucks.

Brisbane will need points if F/S prospect Will Ashcroft nominates them he is highly rated could be the No 1 draft pick or thereabouts ..

Like how Kelly was out of contract and wasn't Geelong's to give?
So we just gave them two firsts and two second round picks out of the goodness of our hearts? That was nice of us.
It happens and we probably wouldn`t be complaining if Covid hadn`t rocked the AFL and destabilised our senior list , we were primed to be a powerful force with another couple of Cups in the cupboard ..

My point wasn't to complain about the Kelly trade, it was to say that there's very little chance we're going to steal English from the Bulldogs without giving up something decent in return

Here's my only reasonable option for trading in english. Bailey Williams + our Future Second. I see us having no need for him. I absolutely don't want English.

I think we'll finish second last. Pick 2 would very likely get us pick 5 and 10. Enough to pick up Hewett and Broadbent. Then if both players wanted to come across to WA on 3 year contracts i'd offer up our two second rounders for For Robertson and Bruhn.

Sign on all 3 of our SSP picks permanently.
So in reality bringing in
Naish
Dixon
Strnadica
Hewett
Broadbent
Bruhn
Robertson

Combine that with last year
SPS
Chesser
Hough
Williams
Bazzo
Clarke

I'd ******* take that in a heartbeat.

This sounds incredibly sexy

If we trade away a top 4 pick this year and genuinely available (no go home factor) talent is there we’re mad.

Name me a team currently contending or been premiers (outside of us) of recent times that didn’t have one or multiple top 5 pick midfielders driving their success?

The only option I’m taking is if Hewett is obtainable by trading down that gives us a go at broadbent.

Were not competing in 5 years time without elite midfield talent coming through our system. So obtaining English to make us immediately better instead of committing to the bottom out is purely an exercise in saving face.

We need to bottom out now to start replenishing talent. Do what you want with your second round picks or start threatening to walk players to the PSD to take advantage of where we are.

Gee, no chance I’d be giving them 25 for a player who can’t get a regular game.
