For me there's layers. Base layer is the list. You need roughly 2x A+ and 4-5 A. That's just to be in the hunt. Then on top of that is other layers where what you mentioned. You're point 1 - for me this is a reason why Richmond were better than other teams who also had a good list profile. As for Dusty - I've gone from Carey, Ablett, Matthews to Carey, Ablett, Matthews, Dusty (undecided about Ablett Jnr). But Cotch was enormous during that period and I' not sure Dusty alone would have been enough.

The interesting thing for me - most of those players on Richmond's list are soldiers. Lots of PSD and RD. These are available to all clubs. But you have to have a really good top end to get it to work. And that's generally top end in your midfield and KPF.

The last paragraph is pretty spot on.
While interstate clubs are picking up the Menagolas/Pickets/Kelly’s/Bakers of the world for later-rookie picks we are picking up the Burrows/ Olango’s style players.

Identifying these “soldier type” players later on the draft has been a real weakness for WCE recruiting staff.
A lot of them have been right under our noses to rub salt into the wound.
The pie man really tries to be too cute sometimes and out smart himself.

Think we need to go back to basics and pick the obvious talent (starting with Hewitt). The pie man relocating to Perth also would not be a bad idea.

Our kicking i50 in the first half was poor and our midfielders stopping their run and carry from rebound 50 has been non existent.

If we can lock it in our 50 it will fix our scoring problem and stop their rebound goals

What's the difference having pick 1 and 2 for us. Do you think Kangas will take a Midfielder

Also I don't really want L Jackson Will cost way too much and I don't think he is the type of player we need for wasting top end picks on. Rather us use our top picks on Midfielders.

Would set us up a bit
First pick best Midfielder
2nd pick Midfielder
Any other pick Midfielder
And with Chesser last year
Our whole draft this year should be Midfielders

Then we have 3 top end Midfielders
And get a ruck as a rookie pick or next season we use picks on to replace Nic Nat when he retires.

Also need to resign W Rioli asap.
His important for our crumbing small hole.
We need him and Ryan duo next few season with Darling and Allen up forward.

If Noble is still there and has any input, 100% North will be taking a midfielder.

Massive subscriber to going all-in on drafting mids and topping up KPFs later on.

That said, it looks likely that he will be out before the draft occurs. Depending on how messy the breakup becomes, I can see North taking a KPF early as an internal showing of protest against the Noble tenure - which would work in our best interests in procuring the best midfielder available.

This game today could be the difference in us with pick 1 or pick 2.
Just be percentage that seperates us

Kangas right in this one

Horrendous coaching from the WA U18's.

Fletcher looking more and more a late first, early second prospective pick for the lions. They will need significantly more points.

If SA's hard mids show up watch some SA key forward go ****ing berserk against WA.

Think some of the WA boys we were excited about last season, have been dominate juniors that have potentially hit their ceiling as they haven't shown much this season;

-Bevan, has been non existent. Looks too slow.
-Hagan, no where near the impact of last season and probably too small.
-Broadbent, whilst he maybe carrying shin splits he looks like he lacks a tank and leap. Tank kills his real dominance area of being good around the ground and leap means he doesn't win taps.

Flip side
  • Ginbey, looks very very good. Stands up in tackles and gets his hands clear, or is streaming on his left side with a nice kick. Tall mid with lots of promise.
  • Gilbey is the half back we need, run and carry with a beautiful penetrating left foot.
  • Cleaver a nice prospect as a utility with a later pick, good skills, footy smart, doesn't panic under pressure.

Hewett, how disappointing today. Not pick 2 quality we need.

Gibney and Gilbey in the same draft sounds too confusing for mine, not sure I'm on-board unless we can arrange a name change for whoever is the latter pick.

I’d give up anything this year if it ensured us getting tholstrup next year.

The longer Willie remains unsigned the more I’ll believe he’ll be part of a trade for Liam Baker.

Ginbey, Gilbey the potential second round picks from WA for the draft. Cleaver maybe a 3rd or fourth round pick. Busslinger, Hagan late.

Hewett not looking a top 5 pick.

Busslinger easily looks best top ager talent on ground for me.

So maybe 7 wa players taken in the draft.

Luke Michael the only other that might.
