You do know that we had 2 priority picks shuey and darling in our last premiership team .

Darling also dodged recruiters phone calls and played the bad boy so he would slip to pick 26 so we could pick him .

It sucks that player do s**t like that but it won't change .

I have a feeling that sheed did the same to slip to pick 11 after being the best performer at the u18 champs as a true goal kicking mid .

It will happen again this year . We don't like it but norf will get priority pick of some sort . There is also sheezel top 3 who won't want to leave Vic .

Hopefully we can trade back to 5 or 6 and pocket some decent compo then get Hewett to play the go home card too.

Hewett really is what we need . Mid with power and break away speed who is also adept around goals to replace shuey . Seems like we were hiding him earlier in the season at the swans league team playing out of position

We were very lucky to get Culley the tall big bodied extractor with overhead marking skills and a raking kick .

Hewett and culley would make a very good platform for our next group

Those were end of 1st and start of 2nd round priority picks.

Not top 5 picks. Shuey was 18 and Darling 21 ish?

Good example though of important premiership players being picked up not needing at top 3 pick.

Trade down a couple of spots, land a Hewett or other top rated mid. Net an early 2nd. That leaves us with 3 2nd rounders. Use two to trade down to the 1st round and land?

Use 5, say 16, 20 and 38.

We were somewhat unconventional. We got Shuey at #18 and Yeo at #28. JK was #4 and NicNat #1. But that's 1 flag out of the last 5 years, and it's not like the build is completely different. It's a bit different.

You talked about Vic clubs having larger access to local players who don't have home sickness. They get this, we get expat players who want to come home. So it's swings and roundabouts and in the big picture, it's not that big an influencer.

When you look at both Richmond and Melbourne's profile, it's hard to come to any other conclusion than their top players (who are mostly draft at the top of the draft) are critical. The rest range from a handful of A-grades to rank and file soldiers. It's hard to justify a case for those teams winning those flags without their top 2 players.

Number 1 priority should be a monster marking forward who can ruck. Kennedy won the game vs Essendon, he plays yesterday we win. Williams was a witches hat. We never looked like taking a contested mark. Then 3 dynamic on ballers. Forget half backs and half forwards
A Biclavs clone will do

I reckon we'll take hewitt

I think North will take Wardlaw and Phillipou with picks 1 and 2 (or 3 when Will Ashcroft is bid on) leaving us to either pick Sheezel or Hewitt with our first pick. Can see us going the home grown option in that case especially if Sheezel is as flight risk as some think he is. We might be offered a trade from either Hawthorn or Essendon on draft night so they can pick Sheezel as he'd be taken by the pick after ours, we might get a second rounder for a swap of firsts.

Baker and Gilbey have been decent of half back, Tholstrup has been WA's best player.

This may be the worst Champs team ive seen from WA in a long, long time. Maybe even since 2003.

Broadbent is now off my draft list unless playing with severe injury. Just a kid who developed much earlier than everyone else.

Hewett done very little, rest of the WA mids almost nothing.

To show how shit the wa teams kicking is we have Busslinger basically running and kicking the ball out of D50.

Looking to be a very, very weak draft year.

Woeful from WA............simply ******** awful, no system, no teamwork, poor decision making and poor skills.

This WA side is a couple of notches down in quality from what we usually put out.

Not a lot to get excited by from WA today, except for The Gunslinger and Darcy Jones, our bottom agers have probably been some of our better players.

The footskills by both teams have been very ordinary at best.

The more games of these Championships that I watch, the more I am thinking that the 2022 is a pretty :poov1: draft.

These are my half time thoughts may comment again post game.

EDIT: just read WCE-phil post above and he is spot on .

At this stage Hewitt doesn't want the footy.
He has been starting on the edge of the square for a few centre bounces .

I don't know if there is some sort of rotation policy with players in their prefered positions to get exposure.

Hewett our best inside mid is being played out of position

Game being played on a shit ground with bad wind is not helping but these definitely look to be the worst two sides in the champs. Vic Country are more solid around the ground than a great team of with standout players. Vic Metro and SA the only good looking teams and Metro playing without 2 of their 3 best mids.

Broadbent has been playing the season with shin splints, maybe why his form has gone down
Anyway dont wont him just pick up Mitch Edwards next year

Gilbey and Ginbey Baker and Jones look good

Hardman and Tholstrup next year
