What about from your perspective?

Would you be ok losing him for pick #3? Or him and Duggan for pick #3 and pick #9?
Yeah I wouldn't. Barrass is our best player pretty much. His leadership will be needed in our rebuild. Too valuable for us right now. We are not GWS and don't just sell the farm. Barrass is very important part of our future.

And our other key back is over 30 with injury issues. We've got Bazzo in his first year and Edwards who is not up to it at the moment and may never be.
Mcgovern would be a much more realistic target for them if they needed a key defender you’d think

Agree, I don't think we'll be as bad as this year but I will say bottom 6.

We are currently competitive in most games with a fairly average team. Add Dom Sheed, Yeo, Cole, Allen, McGov, L.Edwards and hopefully Chesser and we should be much better.
Also lose JK and Rioli (potentially).
Redden, Shuey, Gaff, Nic, Cripps, Gov, Hurn another year older.
Yeo, Gov, LEdwards and Chesser injury prone and struggling to stay on the park.

Could go either way imo. Well maybe not down, its hard to go down from here but could easily be another bottom 4 season.
Hopefully it all clicks back together, we get everyone back and we win some games. Preseason will be a big watch. Needs to be a big preseason

Apologies for the intrusion to your board …

Apparently Dogs are making a play for Barrass, however unrealistic that may be. How opposed to the below would Eagles fans be:
  • Eagles and Barras renegotiate his contract to 1 year deal ending this year and then he becomes a free agent
  • Dogs throw a big contract at Barrass so they get band 1 compensation (probably pick #3)
There's little precedent to renegotiated contracts to reduce in duration but there is no reason it couldn't happy other than the AFL making up rules on the run.

If that's not attractive enough I wouldn't be opposed to the Dogs also trading pick #9 (and pick #27) for Liam Duggan with you guys picking up a chunk of his salary - completely unrelated to Barrass of course :)

I’m very confident that you can’t just renegotiate a player’s contract in August just to make them a free agent on October, because the side chasing them doesn’t want to trade for them.

Barrass is in the form of his life, an elite key defender and only 26. Plus our likely future captain. There’s no way should be thinking of letting him go unless it was for stupid overs.

They can gtfo with pick 3

Also signed a lucrative five year deal in December last year.

I don’t really understand where this talk is coming from.

You never know, if we get better support in the midfield we could improve heaps. We have so many fringe players not up to it. Need to do a list clean out and get some depth going again. Players that can actually cover or push for a spot. Delist Langdon, Naish, Nelson, Foley, Winder Dixon Williams Witherden West ect...

Replace all of them with better players that can actually make an impact at AFL level and all of a sudden things start looking up. This season we have had no one in the 2s. They are all crap.

I can name 10 players or more on how we can improve as a overall list.

I am sorry but your proposal strikes me as outrageous. You want to come and poach our current best player and future captain for nothing? It’s not even your pick 3 that you are proposing to trade. What would you think if we made a similar suggestion with regard to Bontempelli? It is the idea of a scoundrel and a complete fantasist and should be dismissed with the disdain it deserves. Victorians, eh, their disrespect never ceases to amaze me. Barrass is a WA boy, has just signed a long term contract and to my knowledge is happy here. The fact that your team needs a class key back is not our problem. Duggan, on the other hand, we could be interested in talking about. Otherwise, GTFO.

Barrass for Bailey Smith would be a relevant discussion.

Nice try but Barrass is not going anywhere. Sydney supposedly offered a first round pick last year and he has got even better. Pick 9 is simply not good enough. I am not about to let Barrass go for a whim that the AFL would give us pick 3 as compensation.

Did you know he is contracted until 2027? You think a player signs that sort of deal because he wants to go to the kennel?

Getting real, I would consider Duggan for pick 27 but probably go for a future Doggies second rounder (likely to be 25 to 27 range) and you pay the full salary. Not exciting but I'd listen.

I'm worried about our recruitment team. How did our depth get so bad. Why did we recruit these average players. There's a lot to be said. We should of never been in a position where we have to replace 10-15 players. That's a major disappointment on our recruiting. They have done pretty poorly over the last few years. Time to start getting some quality players in the side

So with a full deck on board, I think our side is decent

Problem is our track record with our S&C team, we have the following to fall back on

Add in the draftees from November and I made assumptions on who stays or goes.

If we have to rely on the back ups, we are bottom 2

We’re carrying 46 players on our list this season thanks to all the guys who are inactive so 10 outs means only 6 ins.

Think of it as the four SSP signings - Joyce, Naish, Dixon, Strnadica - being let go and not replaced.

Sounds like you're from the "buy high, sell low school". Also sounds like you're emotional - as in emotionally attached because he is an Eagles player.

To build a flag side you need elite midfielders. Elite KPD's can be found in plenty of places. 2nd round. 3rd round. Trade Bussy in a couple of years time etc.

Elite mids who can compete with Walsh, Oliver, Brayshaw etc don't grow on trees. They are hard to find.

I'd rather Warlord and Phillpou than Warlord and Barrass.

I think he'll be captain next year but I'd be happy for Gov to stand in until another option presented.

I'm not as confident.

We're definitely playing better footy. I assume we will be fitter. I also assume we will have less injuries and more continuity.

NicNat should make a difference with physicality. Yeo either onball or HBF should make a difference.

Are we going to be able to transition that ball out of defence accurately through the corridor though? And can our midfield compete? Where's our muscle? NicNat, Yeo and Culley. One maybe playing half back, one learning the trade, and NicNat playing 50%.

It could go either way but I still think we're bottom 4.

Yep. Definitely expect solid improvement if we can get some continuity, especially with our middle-aged players like Sheed, Yeo, Cole and Allen

However, I think ppl are forgetting how far off it we are this year. Having a year like Adelaide, Hawthorn (or even GWS) would be a strong improvement but that would still likely leave us with a top 4 pick
