AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
With all geelongs players and the cuts to the lists it is unlikely geelong uses anything outside their 3 first rounders and our second round pick. They just wont have the list space.
I know. I understand the law and I understand contracts.I wouldn't have offered Vardy a contract in the first place. Only thing of note he's done since the GF is ruin Venables' career.
Seriously though, did he not read Mitch Brown's article post playing career? Same instance, had a contract and decided to hold out. Was withdrawn and that's all she wrote.
To the previous post who said that contracts usually don't have an end date;
Companies don't have list lodgement dates like sporting clubs do so it's in no way the same at all.
I agree the Gunston type. Any player would be traded for the right offer - but it would have to be very good.I don't mind if we get Langdon, but as long as we don't cough up too much to get him. 4th round feels right, as he's not a regular player for them and not a huge need for us. Nek minute we cough up pick 30, next years first and second.
Assume Willie will remain out for next year, and Venners either gone or needs a bit more time. So I could see him taking Ah Chee's spot in the team.
Saying that, I'm hoping that Cameron gets a preseason and takes that spot as I really rate him.
I'd also keep Jones, as really liked when he played for us and not costing us much. But Reid and Treacy I'm not sure about.
Brander, I'm leaning towards cashing in for a decent draft pick to use on a midfielder (first round pick) or a young midfielder! But only because we are well stocked in talls department, and limited for young developing midfielders of quality. But equally happy to keep him if we don't get the right deal, almost the old give an offer too good to refuse. I see him as a swingman, start him forward and swing him back if required which is how he played in his draft year. Also as he's a good mover, rather than CHF or FF I'd be more inclined to play him off a flank where he can roam up the ground and link up the play and push back inside 50 as the play transitions. He is more the Gunston type.
I’m sure about them...But Reid and Treacy I'm not sure about.
The thinking is good, but losing brander isn't worth a pick 17 in this years draft. There's just nothing we really need to gun for in the top 20. Brander is still worth more to us than that I think. If there was a way to swap Brander for Logan McDonald I'd be all about it. But he'll be gone in the top 5 i think. With Geelong basically having no picks after 33, I think they may have to do some pick splitting to land Higgins.
Wonder if we could pry our/their 1st pick out with a Brander/Narkle trade?
Something like
Brander + 33 + 51
For
Narkle + 17
Geelong then on trade 51 for Higgins.
Would Geelong be happy with 17 for 33, Brander and Higgins?
If we trade Brander, who is under contract, as a straight swap for Narkle I will eat my dog.
Seriously one of the most ridiculous trade suggestions ever to see the light of day on this board.
So, you think we’re a good chance of getting him?Plus Essendon will want the earth in compensation.
Plus we have very little that could even satisfy a reasonable team, let alone Essendon.
Plus there’s no guarantee he’ll ever get his body right. And he’s got no ties to WA so would be unlikely to want to come here.
Apart from that it’s definitely worth considering.
W w w what?
A player like Brander averaging 1.5 tackles a game is actually not bad going at all for a tall.
And considering he's playing wing 5 contested marks isn't terrible either.
Do you criticize defenders for not kicking enough goals by any chance?
I know the law thanks and I can tell you most contracts offered to me by big companies often have no deadline date.
Football clubs regularly give players a very short window to sign if they are a fringe player. Naturally, a player’s agent is going to try and either negotiate a better deal with the club or seek out other clubs.
You were the one talking in absolutes.
averaging just under 1 CM per game off a wing is actually a pretty good return. And given the defensive wing role is more around structure and guarding the corridor, there isn't that many opportunities to tackle.
Like another poster said, you don't know the definition of "can't".
That is just another thing to add to the long as fucck list of things you don't know.
I hope it's not 6 months of this over and over and over again.
You have a certain opinion of Brander that I don't agree with.
I'm dead set certain that you don't know shitt about shitt.
More than happy to revisit this conversation with you in 6-8 months time.
Right now it's simply a circular argument.
I'm confused by your second paragraph because it seems to go against what you are saying. In any event, clubs make and withdraw offers all the time - its part of the business. Hell, North offered Ben Brown 5 years at 600k in March or something and then last month said they wont offer him a deal at all. Vardy is a fringe player who, if he was in fact offered a deal, should have jumped on it and signed if he wanted to stay.

Yea I was joking mate, I've been calling out all season for it. I don't get why he wasn't thrown into the middle when we were getting spanked by the pies. Simmo needed to move him.Not even close buddy.
Duggan played back for most of his junior career, moved to midfield in his draft year and played well. Club drafted him hoping he would move into the midfield. Healy has been calling it for a while and Duggan has talked about the move as well.
