Hickey was a journeyman ruckman that was a C grader at best. We got the equivalent back off what we paid for him and he has not shown he is anywhere near a top 10 ruck in the comp.
Bailey Williams while very raw is ready to play thats the only way he will improve is to get games.

Great trade imo and if we get Witho for one of the future thirds we have we make out like bandits.

Plus next year's draft is stronger hence allowing us to be able to hopefully trade one of our future seconds to get back into this year's draft.

Thanks Hickey for your service but onwards and upwards

It makes sense, he takes a slight haircut for 2 years and gets the opportunity to play and show his worth over that time that he may not have gotten at Brisbane.

Which means he bets on himself, isn't in a precarious situation in 2 years time, extends his career and likely gets more dosh come the end of this contract.

I keep on hearing that Witherden is an elite kick but I can't find much video proof.

Anyone got some highlights to show?

I don't think he is elite in terms of skill, but he is proactive and I feel like a quick decision maker - rather than wait and hold up the play and wait for a safe option to provide itself, he will look for ways to open up the play and keep things moving quickly.

I think his hype is mostly down to taking the SuperCoach world by storm in 2018, averaging almost 90 points per game in his debut year and then 85 per game in his second year after playing a full season. So everyone had him in their team and assumed he was an elite distributor. Averaged almost 80% DE despite kicking far more than handballing.

I'd compare him to Jake Lloyd from Sydney. Definitely adds something to our mix if he plays creatively, but if he is instructed to simply switch across the field and back again like the others do, then it will probably be a waste.

I don't know much about him and asked a mate yesterday, his comparison was also Lloyd.

My take from that video is that he's not afraid to take a hard kick and he loves scoring a sausage roll.

Agree with you on that.

As opposed to so many of our players who look down the line..... sh1t their pants ..... get goose bumps.... go to the default position..... kick it backwards.

The kid has the stones to dare ................................. thats probably why we identified him as a player of interest.

One of the criticisms of our game plan is we don't move the ball on quick enough .......... Witherden will help alleviate this problem.

Hope his is on our list this time tomorrow night.

This potentially turns into a good trade.
In:
Port 2021 rd2 (say Port finish 4th, that makes it 25+say push back 4 spots due to Free Agency picks plus perhaps one academy bid being matched post-pick 20) = pick 37
Sydney 2021 rd3 (say Swans finish 12th, that makes it 43+say push back 5 spots due to Free Agency picks plus perhaps three academy bid being matched post-pick 20) = pick 51
2020 Pick 58 (say 60 once bidding plays out)
2020 Pick 62 (say 64 once bidding plays out)

Out
2020 Pick 34 (say 42 once bidding plays out)
2020 Pick 60 (say 62 once bidding plays out)

So we get next yr pick 51, this year 60, plus pick 37 next yeara rather than 42 this year.
Hoping tomorrow we secure Witherden with our future 3rd.
Gives us a decent chance to move up the draft order this year with 2x future 2nd round picks. I think we will do this on the night only if we see someone on the board still that we like.
I've heard people say we would target Melbourne and Gold Coast picks to trade back up into draft. However, as I understand it, every club needs to take three draft picks this year. Gold Coast's third is 37 and their next is 76, so not sure how keen they'd be to trade out one of their first three. Which only really leaves Melbourne whose first three picks are 26,31 and 33 but also have 43 and 50. So it's feasible they might be willing to offload one of their first three. Is this the way you see it, or am I missing something here?

*Adelaide have 5 inside top 40 and their third and fourth are 23 and 24. However they are probably keen to put their foot on the gas re rebuild so may be looking to bring in as much young talent now as possible.

Did I read somewhere that trades tomorrow aren’t announced until later in the day?

Yep .......... staged managed for media saturation points.... peak hour news time.

If you ever needed confirmation that City Hall sold out to the lure of the almighty dollar then ......... this is it.

New rules for Suns - they take their NT and Academy prospects with picks not needing points

Witherden would be such a quality addition. Really hope it gets done.

Have to assume the Hickey deal wouldn’t be done unless Witho was on board and Brisbane had agreed to his trade value.

Everyone is saying that we will trade the future third for Witherden but I reckon we will cave and hand over Port's second. That is the club we are.

I like this upfront criticism. Witheren is worth a 2nd rounder. We are chasing a player in contract who is a damn good player.

People want us to trade like dodoro whilst criticising dodoro.
