Who knows what is true. We don’t here, that is certain.

But if you head hunt someone surely you have to cough up decent remuneration.
Witherden trade out of Brisbane has been around a while . His head was basically left out for scavengers certainly not hunted .

I like this upfront criticism. Witheren is worth a 2nd rounder. We are chasing a player in contract who is a damn good player.

People want us to trade like dodoro whilst criticising dodoro.

What did the contracted Alir Alir just get traded for?

A late future 2nd.

Alir is ahead of Witherden, has played more regularly and is a KP defender who can take the big boys. Can also pinch hit in the ruck. Not easy to find players who can do all that.

Witherden is the next level lower than Alir. Not getting a game, a mid sized half back and can't play tall or ruck.

A a future 3rd compared to Alir is right on the money, especially with the Lions dumping salary to free up their cap.

That is not Dodoro opinion that is plain as day logic.

Witherden is 22. Aliir is 26.

Half agree with you here.

Witherden is reportedly receiving a big pay cheque and Brisbane want to get him off the books. That devalues him a bit.

He also got squeezed out the best 22. Only played 6 games and not because of injury.

I reckon he will be a decent player for us and whilst I think a second rounder is probably what he is worth, a third is also not far off.

Read the Brisbane board, most agree.

Yep, and assuming we are talking future picks (as we hold pretty much nothing this year) the difference between our 2nd and Sydney's 3rd round shouldn't be viewed as that much by our trading team. We should expect top 4 as a minimum - so lets call it pick 35 as a round-ish number, and Sydney are likely to be in the bottom 6-8 teams so sort of 38-46 as a range on their 3rd rounder.

I guess there are a couple of ways to look at it - do we want to miss out on him for that difference - no. Do Brisbane want to hold on to him for that difference? Probably not.

Maybe a few late pick swaps either this year or next thrown in to confuse the general public is the way to get this done!

Except this hasn't happened at all. From reports it's Brissy pushing him out the door and it's been suggested it could be for a 3rd rounder, so not surprisingly, people are hoping it will be for a 3rd rounder.

If it's for something higher, so be it. I'm just hoping it gets done and there's no last min change of heart as I rate him (obviously more than Fagan does)

He looks a good addition (no Kelly) but not at an inflated salary. A few clubs are getting found out in the regard. Not us!

So which ruckman are we, I mean you, taking in the rookie draft? I'm keen to know who'll be toiling in the middle for the Swans in 2024.

It won’t be a direct Eagle to Swan transfer which I know you prefer but let me tell you about this guy Keegan Brooksby...

You mean Luke.

Alex Witherden
The 22-year-old faces a decision between better financial terms at Brisbane or increased playing opportunities at West Coast. The Lions have offered to pay a portion of Witherden's salary next year if he joins the Eagles, but it is understood there is a shortfall when West Coast's offer is combined with the figure Brisbane is prepared to pay. A trade would help the Lions by freeing up an important list spot and salary cap space, while the Eagles are also keen to move ahead with the deal to secure backline depth as premiership captain Shannon Hurn approaches the end of his career. – Nathan Schmook

This is not done, this is a big decision for him to make and sounds really 50/50. All it needs is someone close to him in his ear about Birchall injury prone and that he should stay and fight for his spot!

Amateur hour again. Lists cut by two players and salary cap by 9%. What is the point of such minor cuts? Should have just abandoned the idea.

Apparently it is up to clubs to negotiate with players for the 9% wage cut, rather than the logical move of applying it across the board. No wonder some clubs are doing a salary dump.
Would love a club to come to the AFL in 3 months and say that they couldn't get players to agree to salary cuts and there was nothing they could do as trade period was over.

You also get Abbey Holmes as part of the deal!

a 9% wage cut is hardly minor!

Collingwood have asked Adam Treloar to wear it....again.
