Crows in the SANFL Round 11

Mate, I've played as a ruckman and I can assure you i've had disagreements with the other ruckmen, along with my own midfielders about whose won a tap. It's largely arbritrary as opposed to say who gets a kick.

Look I agree, but as I said before, look for those signs in the ruck contest and they help in making the judgment. They don't guarantee it, you are right.

I'd be surprised if they are. However that the teams who know their own players can't be totally accurate how can we expect the Sunday Mail to approach this same standard?

Ok then how come they can be criticised as being notoriously inaccurate when there is nothing 100% accurate available to measure them against? :p

Out of curisosity are you someone doing these stats? If so you're overuse of the term 100% is typical of a statistician:p

Nah mate. :)

Isn't it just. I just love looking back at the Dangerfield thread and being one of the few people to be delighted at his selection. :thumbsu:

Dude, I wasn't agreeing with you. It's all well and good to sit there now and say "Drumm was wrong about those players" but he sure as hell wasn't the only one who rated them highly at the time.

Did you realise that the same company that is the official statistician of the AFL having been doing SANFL stats since Round 6 this season? It's no longer pen and paper stuff.

Not for every club they don't.

Glenelg does their own. (and it's all computerised, thank you)

And then they all get together and laugh and laugh at how dreadfully inaccurate the Sunday Mail stats are every week.

Anyway, i'm assuming by your pot shot that you've seen the kid too, he's going to be a beauty isn't he.

Was only half watching the 2nd half of the game on Saturday and only saw him get one or two kicks, so not sure if thats a basis to make an opinion just yet. Given the hugely positive calls on Meeson and Sellar by seasoned posters here in the past, I think ill reserve judgement on whether hes the best North Adelaide junior of the past 20 years and whether hes the greatest KPP South Australia has seen until I see him play.

Don't worry though mate after seeing Matt Westhoff and Lobbe play, you look like you have some beauties there too.:D:eek:

Thankyou for the recognition :)

Also, there's a difference between group think and agreeing opinions. Group think occurs like this "Moran's soft", "Yeah he is" and then before the next week "Moran better not be soft" and it becomes a self-fufilling prophecy which Moran cannot escape from on here as some posters will always see it through these lenses. There are also some posters (one springs to mind) that aren't sufficiently intelligent enough to develop their own opinions and hence will baa these thoughts away.

If some of the better posters here, think Macca23, Cmndstab, Vader etc. all have the same opinion, which they've reached rationally and independently it should not be dismissed as worthless group think, but probably the correct opinion.

problem with this, is that an entire philosophy that doesn't actually involve interracting with the analysis and opinion itself. you're just proposing one rule over another rule, when the point has to be to consider everything on its merits (or lack thereof).

there is a very, very fine line between 'group think' and striking a chord with the collective consciousness. if we're talking broad brush strokes like this.

Ps. group think without basis is usually easy to dismiss by reference to analysis and fact, rather than crying 'group think' which tends to suggest a lack of substantive rebuttal. for example, using your reference: GT = Moran is Soft; then the obvious retort is to refer to examples where that wasn't true. :)

Meh. Port supporters overrate their players on a weekly basis. I'm still expecting Damon White to force his way back into the power to become "the next warren tredrea" ........................

Also interesting how he decides that the person who starts the praise is the sheep whereas surely it's the posters who follow who are more likely to be sheep?

I do think however that my decision on the dumbest regular Adelaide Poster needs to be rethought.

I don't think you're entirely sheeplike I'm sure you have had an original thought or shown a glimpe of courage at some point in your life. My point is when someone on this board has a go at someone all these little cowards (especially you) crawl out from under their rock and hide behind the antagniser while hurling cheap shots.

Don't wait for someone else to have a go before you sheepishly follow, I'm sure even you aren't that pathetic. C'mon Jo, grow a set.

Me too. Glad hes tearing it up down at Roosterland

First things first, name calling over the internet is the epitomy of courage.

Secondly, should you actually read the thread I wasn't mocking you're embarassing change of opinion, merely the logic you used to defend it, and then later the spelling errors you made as you got more flustered.

Hence I was not the sheep following the mocking of your position reversal, if I did I would point posters to the corresponding thread for Round 2 of the SANFL last year for some other ones of your beauties, I was making my own observations about your logical fallacies.

I agree, it will be some time. But he has just broken into SANFL league and is still young so I wouldn't judge his ability on one performance.

As for the 'thing', you should try posting some positive material, especially if there is no vested interest.

Can you get me some red and blue glasses? :thumbsu:

1. if you think Drummond doesn't write positively as well as negatively you're just plain wrong.
2. why are you riding Lobbe so hard?

the problem with your impotent rage here, is not that you made a wrong call on a player - who hasn't - but that you conveniently ignore the part about not having seen him first. that's not wrong, that's something very different.

1. I have often commended Drummond on some of his writing. I just dislike it when he is unfairly negative towards a younger player. So...umm...not plain wrong in this case.

2. Read my posts regarding him. I am not calling him the next Dean Cox. Just stating what I observed. I believe he deserves a fair chance before being written off after one SANFL game.

Any other questions?

Wow - you can quote one of my posts from round 2 of last year, do my posts have that much of an impact on you. Normally I just brush over your posts assuming it was one of your all too familar sucky, stereotypical yes man garbage.

You're right about name calling though, its right up there with the mob like cowardice that you so often display.

Flustered - meh - don't flatter yourself.

No I saw him a couple of times before I made that call but with the bad taste that was James Sellar and another first round draft pick blown, I made a stupid call that was more in frustration and less in common sense. Wasn't my first, wont be my last.

I dont have a problem admiting when I'm wrong, I do have a problem with yet another display of the all too familiar cowardice from the mob.

so ummm... in other words, the shoe fits then.

not being funny, but why should I care about going back and reading your opinions on him? the only question I asked, why are you so supportive of a Port player? so what else is going on in the background here? friend/relative/random footy samaritan?

Do the Crows send their own stat keepers? Are you 100% sure Vader? They send observers who take footage feeds to their MacBook Pro's. Sometimes the Crows spotters leave their MBP and go to another game and get their stats from the coded data. Who is to say they don't miss a stat on the far side of the ground looking through their recorded capture window.
Yes, they do - or at least they did as recently as last year. We had a similar discussion in 2008. afccomau jumped in and informed us that the Crows had their own people there, keeping track of the stats for our players. Whether this is still the case I can't say - though I expect that it probably is.

I'm certainly not suggesting that the Crows stat-keepers never miss a stat. All I was suggesting was that they missed less than the SANFL stat keepers, due to having a lighter workload. I'd suggest the truth lies somewhere in the vicinity of SANFL stat-keepers missing 40% of all stats, with the Crows stat-keepers missing 5%. That's nothing but a guesstimate, or SWAG (scientific wild ass guess).

No, I wasn't aware of this. Presumably the SANFL stats have improved since then as a result. The biases against the SANFL stat-takers are ingrained from many years of dodgy figures. It's going to take a while to get used to them actually being based in reality, rather than fantasy.
