That’s funny that you can throw in you “think” they aren’t playing for much money as a legitimate defence. You don’t have a clue that they aren’t playing for much money.

What we do know is they’ve brought in 3 big recruits. Let’s see how many they lose.
You struggle to hold a conversation without getting confrontational don't you.

Gee whiz

After Covid I met an ex Glenelg player who went to the country because of the salary cap.

He said the players were trying to get the cap increased and when they reviewed the SANFL books there was a new revenue item which was the AFL paying the SANFL direct to keep the cap down as they didn’t want the SANFL attracting interstate players at the expense of the VFL.

Oh come on, if that’s confrontational you need to harden up a bit.

It’s not the first time you’ve used that explanation to defend Glenelg and sorry if you’ve taken offence but it’s a silly defence.
It's not though is it ?? Of course I don't know what those guys are being paid, but it would be safe to assume guys who come back to a club they have a strong affinity with would do so for less money than they would otherwise get elsewhere.

That would be the same at all clubs not just them. Much like your Hawthorn's and Geelongs, on a smaller scale, people take less for a chance at success.

Trust me I'm not in the business of defending them.

Yes I agree that some players would play for their original club for less but the SANFL salary cap is so low that if players are taking too much under what they could get paid they’d be paying for peanuts.

There would be clubs out there willing to pay those players a decent salary.

So to fit in all these players and think they aren’t being paid a competitive salary for players of their standing and for Glenelg, the reigning back to back premiers, to fit in 3 of them doesn’t pass the pub test.

They've lost Snook, probably Curran and there was a big rumour Matt Allen was offered a SANFL marquee role with Port.

That would cover it.

Let’s see if they all leave, of course if they lose players that’s a different argument than saying players playing for unders and that’s how they can fit them in.

One thing people need to keep in mind is if an SANFL club want to recruit a recently delisted AFL player that has come through the SANFL the new club still needs to pay a transfer fee to his original club. So, for a player like Partington, Mitch Crowden or recently delisted Tom Emmett, any other SANFL club wanting them will need to pay a transfer fee to Glenelg or Sturt in these cases. I think that fee is about $30k but it is a sliding scale IIRC based on talent.
When Sturt got Snelling from Essendon we would’ve had to pay West a transfer fee, that West got Wilson it probably would’ve been cancelled out.

Im certain transfer fees are payable if they change AFL clubs too. One of the AFL's way of passing money down to the grassroots.

I find this (likely illegal market manipulation) claim to be a bit dubious, but at the same time it would be hard to disbelieve anything about the lengths that the puppet masters the AFL would go to.

I can’t see why the guy would have lied and he had just left the game.

The thing is it wasn’t clear in the financials, it had some title and only came to light when the players pushed for an explanation

Do sporting organizations that fit under the AFL banner operate in a free market?

Like, they are Tax exempt for one. I suspect the laws are dubious and this isn't illegal.

And would require the SANFL to like, sue the AFL or something to actually make it illegal.

I really don't know the ins and outs of the laws around this, but it seems similar to price fixing.
I guess the SANFL are under their thumb and really can't do much about it.
