I'm not opposed to sending rowy to the 2's for sheldrick. Need to reward form. Not a huge fan of bringing kids in and playing as the sub.

Bring Gus in and give him rowy's role. Rowy is a very good footballers but he's not performing right now. Lay down the challenge to both Gus and rowy. If you want the role it's yours to win

Whilst being in Sydney benefits players because they can escape alot of the limelight, does it hinder them when it comes to honest feedback.

Our players escape alot of criticism being in sydney. If heeney was at pies he would be absolutely copping it right now. Less public boots up the arses may have his pitfalls

I take some solace from the fact that we've had a near identical first three rounds to last year.

Rounds 1 & 2 - Two solid wins where our transition from defence and sheer firepower inside 50 perhaps papered over the issues we had in the midfield.

Round 3 - The issues in the midfield get exposed and everything falls apart because of it.

We remedied things last year, so let's hope we can do it this year, albeit a lot earlier in the season.

Yep, and I know it ended badly yesterday, but they did fight back during the game.

Talent is there, it is the response the next few weeks that will be telling

It’s only a hunch, but I feel that unlike many of us, a lot of Port supporters don’t have much else going on in their lives.

Hey speak for yourself, I have a jumper I am knitting for my cat project

Was it just my impression or has run and carry been dropped as a tactic

Warner, Blakey, JMac, Ollie and Stevo are all good run and carry merchants or have been. R&C is a great disruptive tactic. Offhand I can't recall any runs from yesterday.

Did I miss any?

Every time they went forward they had lose in the HF line and that cut us to pieces , once again no plan B and slow it down get possession for 10 mins or so . Just change it up for awhile , lock down on their forwards.
We did work our way back which is a good sign , but soft frees in front of goals and goals out of their arse didn't help.
Those that want McDonald out are kidding themselves he had our game high marks (8)
Warner is getting attention now but still had the most metres gained , Mills made some stuff ups in the 1st half but fought back.
Amartey was so much better than that spud Ladhams in the ruck .
The next 3 will tell where we're heading.

I've see a few people praising Amarteys game.

0.3 from 4 shots is the kind of game that killed us. All that effort to get the ball into forward 50 for it to be completely wasted.

His form is trending upwards from last year but he definitely wasn't in our bests yesterday.
More contested possessions than anyone not names Mills. He didn't finish his work but he actually got to work. It's not on him that our midfielders didn't play to their standard.

For everything we did wrong we still did a lot right. Round 3, learn from it and move on.

We allowed them to overlap too easily. Need to sort that out and that can only be improved by running harder and defending space. Need more effort there

Attack we did poorly. When we got the ball we weren't focusing on who we attacked to. Our best plays we kicked to the lead or went wide when we didn't see an in.

Plenty to learn for a team still very young. Not overly concerned

I think Cunningham is the handy depth player now at best. I love his effort but he is ineffective mostly.

Blakey is too bloody casual and doesn't impact games.

Heeney cops it for consistency etc, but Blakey is a top 10 potential star , and he has all these tools and so often does a stupid turnover trying to be cute, or you forget he is out there.

Only really gone for one run through the play in 3 rounds and that's when game was done v the hawks

I think the size and the dimensions of the MCG contributes to this.
The Dees seemed to use the width so much better.
Funny that. Considering they play there 16 times a season.

Even if buddy averages 2 goals a game, does it cost us more.

He's probably my favourite ever swan, but understandably he doesn't win enough contests anymore yet we kick to him at the same rate. When he's not there, the forward line has more space and looks more dynamic
If you think Mclean more dynamic than Bud even now, you're a madman.
Was quite impressed he actually took a few good grabs today.

That was one of the more frustrating games, it felt like an almost game for everyone. We got ourselves in a position to have a chance of winning. So many wasted opportunities. IMO the fact that we fought back gives me hope, proves we can match it with the better teams. Yes there are things to work on but I would be more worried if we never got back in it. I think we are still a top 4 team but as others have mentioned the next few weeks will be telling.

Love Warner but pretty disappointed with his start to the season, I think he will turn it around soon but maybe he is feeling the pressure a bit?
