there's Talk that Hawthorn might bite at giving up their 1st next year for an early 20's pick, their first pick is 53 and they really want Stocker..... allegedly

I'd rather tell them to GAGF.

The telecast goes for 2 and a half hours tomorrow just for the first round. Just like the Brownlow this year, it’s gonna drag badly
We're bidding on 15 players apparently so that should drag things out

Reckon there is a good chance Hawthorn could slide next year. Could be a good value trade.
I agree. If they come offering their first rounder next year for pick 21, there would have to be a player there that I am absolutely in love with and would have picked in top 15 for me to say no!

GWS's 19 or our 21 looks most likely... provided the guy they want is still there.

could end up with a 10-14 pick next year.

The Western Bulldogs shape to be the first club to leverage the AFL's new live trading of draft picks with three clubs circling their first draft pick. The possibility has emerged that the Dogs could trade their pick to move a few places in the draft in exchange for an extra draft pick in this or next year's draft, and still secure the player they wanted. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney are all keenly interested in the Dogs' first selection at pick seven. The three clubs have eight of the next 12 picks in the draft after the Dogs' pick seven, with the Crows holding eight, 13 and 16, the Power 10 and 15, and the Giants nine, 11 and 19. It is highly unlikely that any of the clubs with the first six picks - Carlton, Gold Coast, St Kilda and Port - will trade their early selections, so the Dogs' pick shapes as an attractive, attainable, option. The Bulldogs are believed to be keen on midfielder Bailey Smith while the clubs after them have other priorities. So potentially the Dogs could trade seven and still get Smith, or another player they rate equally, as well as an extra draft pick.

This is terrible news. Also if Smith is still available they will need a pick above 12 (Geelong) to secure him. This means a trade of 13 and 16 wouldn't work for them and we'd have to trade 8.

WB give up 7 and 27 for two of these picks:

AFC 8, 13, 16, 21
GWS 9, 11, 19, 25
PORT 10, 15

If Rozee is there I think Port trade 10 + 15.
If Caldwell is there I think GWS try to trade trade 9 + 19.

We'd essentially have to trade out 8 + 21 just to get Rozee or Caldwell and end up with 7, 13, 16, 27. Even then Ports hand looks more appealing if they're targeting Smith as the higher second pick is better than ours (15 > 21 or 16).

Why are we being touted as the first to bid on Blakey at pick 8 ?? One of the club's with a top 4 pick should be reading his name out.
Are they still poking fun at us? Suggesting we are going to have a crack at every academy, FS & NGA player in sight, while no other club joins the fray.

Dunno. I don't think so. We've got form nominating F/S and academy players in the past, and this year we have 4 very good picks. The industry knows that Hamish is one of the best in the business and can spot talent. Some of the other clubs with high picks have new guys at the helm and maybe the draft analysis guys think those clubs will play it safe with their picks and go for the obvious choice ?? It still seemed odd that we were being suggested as the only club making nominations. Surely it won't play out that way. I'm firmly of the belief that one of Carlton, Suns or St Kilda should be reading Blakey's name out.

I reckon the opposite, that with wingard and another preseason into o’meara, I could see a top 4 finish for them

Scrimshaw is a big talent too

I agree Colonel. It won't be as good as a lot of people might think. They will improve.

Besides, why do that player thieving mob any favors at all to further improve.

All that with a dash of fk 'em!! :)

It's all posturing to try and get someone to panic and overpay.

St Kilda will take King at 4.
Port will take Rozee at 5.
GC will take Caldwell or B King at 6.
WB will take Smith at 7.

WB will not risk trading down to 9 in case we take Smith. As we are usually 'best available' drafters, then this is a legitimate threat.

The club will stick to its talent list. I would not go anywhere near Bailey Dangerfield. May as well throw the pick in the bin if we pick him.

Our pick 8 is simply a leftovers pick and nothing else.
We get whatever is left from the players you mentioned. Must kill Port knowing what they gave up to get in to pick 5. They get first choice of 4 very similar in quality types.

I think it’s fair to say Walsh, Luko, Rankine and Max are the standouts.

Port have won the toss on a pitch you hsve no idea how it’s goiny to play and gave up a lot for that right. They would be having sleepless nights. They would know the likelihood that we may get the better player.

I think the choice between Rozee, Caldwell, King and Smith would be bloody tough. Don’t be surprised to see Port let Rozee slide. I wouldn’t be confident if I were them that he would be the best of that bunch.

Personally I see Smith as most likely to be a certainty if there is such a thing. I see Caldwell as the potential to be the best but could also be a bust. We get to take whatever is leftover with no fear of picking the wrong player like Port does.
I think B.King would be our best pick balance wise and if Rozee slides, like I think he is, and becomes a player, Port supporters will be filthy for a decade or longer:
As they say in cricket sometimes it’s a good toss to lose. And in this case Port gave up countless picks for that right.
