The wide-ranging invesitgation into the use of prohibited drugs in Australia appears to cast the net far and wide. It was shocking to hear it may have happened at Windy Hill. It's devastating to learn that it could involve many players, and many clubs.

We've all been proud of the clean culture the Swans have maintained over the years. It's been the envy of other teams. But the question must be asked, does anyone feel there could be dodginess occurring in red and white? Heaven forbid.

Reckon Jetta is on the roids.

Malceskis beard makes me a bitt suss, and Kirk was pretty strange, Hanners getting around in a flower power kombi van, hmm you could be on to something.

Look on a serious note, I don't have my head that deep in the sand not to think our guys enjoy a bit of recreational gear in the off-season and possibly even after games. There are some players I would think could be using but probably shouldn't name names. But in regards to PEDs and that sort of thing, I would be incredibly shocked if we were. But then, who knows...

I'd be very shocked and devastated if we had anything systematic occurring at our club the way some are alleging has happened at Essendon. However one or two taking PED off there own bat is not without possibility.

Hate to see Sydney's name pop anywhere associated with this, but pop up it does. Here Andrew Wu is specifically targetting sports betting ...

Suddenly tanking is no longer about getting an extra draft pick. The AFL cracked down on seemingly harmless bets in recent years - Sydney's Kieren Jack's $5 bet comes to mind - so they will have to throw the book at offenders if far more sinister acts are revealed.

I'd say it is highly likely that performance enhancing drugs have been used by players at every club at some point. Testing always lags behind the science of doping and I'm sure Justin Charles, the only AFL player to get caught doing PEDs, hasn't been the only player to use them. Just look at these guys compared to 20 or 30 years ago - they are bigger and stronger and run faster for longer... you can put a certain amount down to professionalisation of the sport and advances in sports science knowledge (of the legal variety), but that can only take you so far. I would have doubted that any club would be dumb enough to have an institutionalised program running, but then again I would have doubted any club would be dumb enough to do the things Adelaide, Carlton and Melbourne have done over the last decade which have got them in trouble. It would be more likely that a player would seek out PEDs as an individual, and with so many players, and so much to be gained from getting on and then staying on a list, you have to think a fair few have at the very least contemplated, if not actually used, illegal substances to get ahead. Such is life, such is man.

It'd be naive to just rule Sydney out because the club has had a pretty good run in terms of off the field discretions and atrocities and a solid working 'culture'.

I hope they haven't implicated themselves in this but I won't be shocked if we are involved just as I won't if any other club in any other code is.

Per the SMH:

NSW Police say they have reviewed the Australian Crime Commission's findings and have "not received any allegations of match fixing" in this state.
The NSW Police Force said it did work with the ACC on its current investigation in relation to a "specific allegation of illicit drug use". However that investigation is currently suspended and no charges have been laid.

Good news

Per the SMH:
Good news

The ACC report released today stated;
Widespread use of peptides has been identified, or is suspected by the ACC, in a number of professional sporting codes in Australia

The AFL & NRL would presumably be among those codes and obviously the majority of NRL clubs are situated in NSW, therefore are those clubs in the clear, based on the NSW police statement, or did the NSW police merely examine match-fixing and one instance of illicit drug-use and leave the investigation of "widespread use of peptides" to other agencies?

Just to check with mods before anything happens, if we name players names, even in mild speculation, is that a no no?
If they actually did what you say it is fine. Truth is a defence to defamation, any moderator that disagrees is irrelevant

swansfan is correct but ask yourself, are you willing to foot a defamation case because we as a site aren't libel to anything an individual posts. Better to play it safe

Yeah fair enough, thought I should check.

Man, I hate the libel laws in this country. Makes everything less fun.

People say America is sue-happy but you can say Ray Lewis is on roids as much as you want and no one cares.
You can say it here too, as long as you make it clear it is just your opinion and you aren't claiming it as indisputable fact.

If Reid is on the 'roids, he's seriously doing it wrong.

"Bulking up" is far from the only warning sign. Lance Armstrong was hardly a muscle freak. This runs far beyond getting on the 'roids ... and one of the good things about this is that maybe the sanctimonious Australian sports media will get off its high horse in future.

We would be silly to assume it is not us. It very well could be. We have always managed to keep players on the field, resulting in a number of consecutive games records. We dont seem to suffer from soft tissue injuries. Our medical/conditioning department is the envy of the AFL.

Sydney has for years had a cutting edge football department, one that looks for advantage anyway they can. Let's hope they have been working within the rules.

Fingers crossed

Danks appears to be a NSW guy, but nowhere have we been mentioned in his AFL club associations, so at least that's a bullet we appear to have dodged, knowingly or unknowingly,
