Club should make a stand and appoint a new captain going forward

Shuey should be told to concentrate on his body and get it right for the good of the club.
Shuey should have done this on his own accord. No need for a club to tell him the above. He’s one of our greatest players ever, but it shows a lack of leadership. But that’s fairly consistent across the entire club

I haven`t minded Shuey`s games and he is improving as he builds his game fitness , same as Kelly plus Gaff can contribute as well now ..
I don`t think they are far off from being competitive for longer which should start to lead the younger guys in West , XON and Clark finding some good footy ..

I can’t see how West has an AFL future if he doesn’t find a more effective way of disposing of the ball. He needs to handball, or do short easy kicks or even long ones down the line. ATM he does difficult or even impossible kicks to a contest and often to the advantage of the opponent and hey presto we know how that works out - turnover and goal to the opposition.

Shuey's disposal is clearly a class above all others in our side, his tackling too. I agree the more we can build his match fitness, the better.

Kelly has been OK but has a habit of going missing for large stretches. I am not sure what to put it down to. I know he recently missed 1 or 2 due to injury but he completed the preseason so should be quite fit. I think it's between his ears. He puts in repeat efforts but when we get smashed regardless/he sees his team mates phoning it in he just decides to switch off.

Our inability to win the ball and feed Gaff hurts his game immensely. He doesn't have any other strings to his bow.

I think that he can find the ball means you are half way their. I honestly believe a better coach might have him really helping a team? I agree with you that he should be a feeder and not a deliverer.

Both Shuey and Hurn need to leave. Giving them contracts for next year would be irresponsible. No point keeping Redden either if he's out of contract.

I get Simpson and Nesbitts "we have to keep the experienced leaders" notion, but really isn't that one of the biggest selling points for why we brought in Kelly in the first place? That he would lead the new midfield after our final flag tilt with this list?

Time to pull the trigger. Got plenty of quality on field leaders still around to guide the young team over the next couple. We aren't throwing them to the wolves. Yeo AA, Kelly AA, McGovern AA, Ryan AA, Barrass and Duggan. Oscar and Sheed coming back too, we don't need to keep carrying elder statesman.

Get Trew (if he survives) starting in the midfield with Kelly, Chesser, XON, Edwards and our first pick next year, and away we go.

Agreed, let them finish the season out working with Simmo on the rebuild. Let them finish at end of year with dignity and respect for their wonderful contribution to the Eagles.

Out: Strnadica, Nelson, Witherden (lurgy), Rioli, O’Neill (inj), Waterman out of 22
In: Barrass, Rotham, Foley, Hough, Jones, Gaff into 22

Backs: Barrass, Gov, Rotham, Hurn, Duggan, Foley, Hough
Mids: Gaff, Naish, Kelly, Clark, Redden, West
Rucks: Dixon, Hedwards
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Ryan, Jones, Cripps, SPS, Shuey
Sub: Waterman
Emergencies: Petch, Winder, Jilliams

Actually doesn’t look as bad as I thought. (Until all the other injuries we don’t know about crop up, I guess).

Beagles might have to forfeit though.

In: Any fit young mids
Out: Any of the old mids the bottle randomly/ deliberately spins on, make way for youth. We will still lose this week but we could start making inroads towards the next flag.
Thank the old guys for their time at the club helping us win a flag. Give them send off games at home this year as respectful gratitude for years of service. Unfortunately Father Time catches us all and the bastard has caught us.

I think Shuey still has value provided he can get his body tight. The comment by Simpson that Hurn is still needed for his leadership is ridiculous given we have a host of experienced players in the backline. Hurn is still a good player but has lost what pace he had and is a momentum killer. This year should be all about development and the last thing you need is entrenching bad habits
