YEs...and assumes no injuries....THUNT was an omission....where to fit him in?? Should be there...Vardy might take CHF if he recovers....and Stringer was certainly in my thoughts...I think he's a real goer....but only so many places.....how good is that?

So Rabbi...how does this look for a 2014 line up........

Guthrie Lonergan Enright

Mackie Taylor Kelly

Motlop Duncan Varcoe

Menzel Walker Bartel

Smedts Hawkins SJ

Simpson Selwood Christensen

Take your pick for the bench...but West Brown Sheringham Sub: Murdoch

And that presumes Kersten is out injured...lol....

Lots of inside...lots of outside pace and a pretty good Goal to Goal line.....

Looks competitive to me.

Just replace Sheringham with THunt - and I too think we are on a good thing.

Some skill and leg speed in this team.

I thought Coey was gone and so we had lost two big bodied mids this season in effect - Ling and Corey. Add to that Ottens did not mind getting a contested ball or tackling. We lost the best mid in the game in Ablett. So we had lost too much from this once great midfield - and we needed to get another established mid for us to get more competitive in the middle (especially as West and Simpson keep getting the senior experience they need).

So Boak for me was a no brainer if he would come at the right price. Just add a fit and raring to go Varcoe and Menzel to the 2013 team - and with Boak and we would have a shot for sure at the 2013 flag.

If Boak or similar does not come next season we better hope Corey stands up for one more season.

If we are thinking 2014/5 season then we probably do not need to go after anyone - someone from this new group will step up by then.

I just want a 2013 Premiership in the GFC cupboard - all locked away.

GEELONG
Whispers:
The Cats have made it very public that they want Port Adelaide midfielder Travis Boak, who grew up just down the road from Geelong in the seaside town of Torquay.
Commodities: Geelong received two first-round draft picks as compensation for losing Gary Ablett to Gold Coast, and the club has one left in its keeping. The Cats have not activated the pick for this year's NAB AFL Draft, but the rules allow it to be traded (it can be used in the 2013 or '14 drafts). It seems likely they will offer the pick to Port Adelaide if Boak decides he wants to continue his career at Simonds Stadium.
Needs: Although Nathan Vardy should be a regular in the club's senior team next year now that he has recovered from his hip problems, the Cats could still do with some more depth in their rucking ranks. They also need midfielders who can step in when players like Joel Corey and Paul Chapman retire in the next couple of years.
Trade history: The Cats have recruited a player during trade week just once since Brad Ottens joined the club from Richmond in 2004. They swapped pick 49 to Fremantle in exchange for injury-prone defender Marcus Drum in 2009 (Freo used the selection to draft Dylan Roberton). Drum failed to play a senior game for the Cats. On the other hand, Geelong has lost a number of players during recent trade weeks. Brent Prismall (Essendon), Shane Mumford (Sydney Swans), Jeremy Laidler (Carlton) and Nathan Djerkurra (Western Bulldogs) have all exited the Cattery in the past three years.
Fantasy trade: The remaining Gary Ablett compo pick plus Geelong's first selection in this year's national draft to Port Adelaide in exchange for Travis Boak.

Nothing too radical here. But then check the fantasy trade for Port:

Power to feature.

Fantasy trade:
Travis Boak and Steven Salopek to Geelong for George Horlin-Smith and Josh Hunt. Although his career at the Power is likely over, Salopek still uses the ball well. His pace isn't what it used to be, but he could offer something in a good side. There's no doubt losing Boak would hurt the club psychologically, but Horlin-Smith (an Adelaide local) is a true competitor, is a good size (186cm) and could develop into a great left-footer. Hunt is coming to the end of his career, but is a hardened leader who would command respect at Alberton.

I just read the PA fantasy trade also on the AFL site and was interested to see what peoples reactions to Boak + Salopek for Horlin-Smith + Hunt would be?

Boak for Horlin Smith would be a real win for us (unless we were chucking in extra picks on top) and the other one would be stupidity given a) we won't trade our valued vets and b) Salopek can't even get a game at Port.

Not worth the paper it's written on and no chance of happening. Just mindless speculation

Luckily its not printed on paper!

Is Jesse Hogan now writing for the AFL website ?

It's bit of a daft trade for both teams isnt it? I think Geelong fans would rather see Hunt finish his career at Geelong not trade him away to another team in his final years for a player who might not even get on the park. Port would have next to no use for him either, as although I do think he'd be best 22, he would'nt be any part of out future. Horlin-Smith might be a good young player, but he's no Boak yet. This trade is basically just Boak for Horlin-Smith with two players at the end of their careers tacked on for shits and giggles.

Could not agree more. Harry does not know his stuff.

That sounds like a great trade to me, shame there's no chance of it happening maybe throw in the compo pick. I would be happy for Hunt to move on at the end of the year into retirement or another club, I agree we don't want any of our premiership stars finishing their career at another club but Hunt doesn't fit into this category.

It's a team sport and Josh gets a job to do each week and in the main does it very well,182 games 3 Grand Finals and two flags. as well as having to cope with a couple of knee reconstructions along the way.
He's a star in my eyes.

That deal won't happen, but if I had to make a choice I would do it. Boak is by far the best player in the deal and we'd get to keep all our compo picks. Joshy Hunt could fake a retirement at Port and come back to Geelong for another season. ;)

will get punched in the throat for this, but Josh has enough in the tank for another year next year. Maybe not all 24 games but enough to get him too 200 games for us. Gets him into the 200 club for us and AFL.

Could be at 188 or so games by season end...

Go Catters

I like that part. He could develop into a great left-footer no doubt, once he stops kicking with his (preferred) right foot of course. :)

I can't see Geelong using one of their GA jr compensation picks for an existing listed AFL player. Stephen Wells knows what's best for the club, and other than Marcus Drum (no fault of Wells or Drum), he's done brilliantly.

I can see it happening. As has been discussed previously, we are going to have to give up something of value, or it is unlikely a deal will be done. You only have to hark back to the last successful deal involving Geelong - Brad Ottens. We had to give up one of our young highly fancied midfielders - Moloney.

If Port won't accept any players we offer and / or one of our draft picks for 2013, do we simply walk away, or offer the GAJ compo pick?
