Injuries can be as much down to bad management as bad luck. Comparing numbers and games is a bit pointless and misleading.

Building the depth of your squad, managing your squads age profile, using youf and managing your players game time and fitness can all contribute to an improved injury record.

We've lost Rodri for most of the season which was unlucky, but we don't have an adequate replacement in the squad or anyone we're prepared to use in the youf which you could argue is bad management.

We've had a lot of injuries in defence, but three of our defenders are over 30 and susceptible to injury so you need to be prepared for that to happen.

So its luck, because theres absolutely zero chance anyone would have predicted that both Arsenal and City and Spurs would cop the injuries they had, that City and Man U would have the severe form drop, and that Pool would get whats effectively new manager bounce for a whole season.

Dude, Liverpool are just really good.

Liverpool cruising in first and Manchester United sitting in a lowly 14th, can this season get any better?

Yes, it can, Liverpool wins the title and Manchester United is relegated to the Championship. :)

United's had dark days in the past, if we get relegated, so be it, we'll survive, the joint is a shitshow, needs a total re-set.

Oh I totally agree, I am not saying Pool won't be deserved winners, and I imagine next year we will be shitting on the Balon D'or when Salah gets overlooked.

I just mean on years like this its so rare to see so much going perfect for Pool, and so much going wrong for everyone else. Its not a slight on them, its actually a reflection on how well their club is run that replacing a manager they will view as a legend hasn't resulted on them completely shitting the bed the following season.

And its not like Pool is the first team this is happening for, it was similar when Leicester won the title and we saw poor seasons from City, Liverpool and Chelsea and lots of things fell Leicesters way that didn't work out for other clubs.

Its the opposite to seasons like 13/14 where the top 4 was really tight and it came down to the fine margins for City to win the league.

A lot of luck is required to win the league, no shame in saying its not, and I don't want to be misquoted as saying "Pool won the league due to luck" because you need so much to go right and right now Pool are the best team in the comp.
But they have luck in how the other results and misfortune are hitting direct competitors. And so many things are falling their way.

And still more than half a season to go, lots can happen and at some stage the momentum will go elsewhere,

So can't think of many league winners that didn't win due to luck with that logic.
Most league wins require luck when you consider the competitiveness of the league. Its not the only factor in winning a title, you need to have the right manager, the right players, form, etc. But you can't just brush it away either.
Luck usually either comes in the form of not copping injuries to key players (City with Rodri) or not copping injuries to key players at the wrong time (Odegaard when we were trying to build momentum).

Don't forget the old phrase "better to be lucky than good" has been around sports for a very long time and for a reason.

My original point isn't that Liverpool isn't or is lucky, I am saying its another one of those rare seasons where an absolute ridiculous amount of things are falling their way. I don't think anyone thought Slot would, erm, slot in so well. Or that Salah would be on pace for an all time season, or that City would fall away so badly, etc.
And yet everything that COULD go their way, besides an Allison injury which hasn't hampered them too badly, is going their way.

Personally I think Arsenal's lack of discipline earlier in the season has cost them more than any injury.

Red cards for Rice and Trossard booting the ball away vs Brighton and City, and Saliba as the last man taking down a player vs Bournemouth.

Looking at other games where they dropped points. The team they fielded vs Everton should be getting all 3 points but they drew. They were the better team vs Liverpool but ended up drawing. Great team fielded vs Chelsea but drew. Lost to Newcastle away, but that's a hard place to go to.

I can buy injuries being an excuse vs Fulham, with Kiwior and Partey in the back 4, but that's it.

Teams still need to be in the position to capitalise on any "luck" that comes their way during the season.

Liverpool have done everything right so far and you'd have to say are looking very good for a legitimate shot at a League/Champions League double (on current form/results).

Still early days though.

Yep.

Arsenal actually haven't handled the injuries that badly (note that Odegaard was a massive loss and Saka will be similar as they are virtually irreplaceable in our squad), but poor dicipline and poor finishing have resulted in too many dropped points.

And unfortunately, when you have a team like Liverpool just crushing everything in their path, it's these small margins that will cost the title.

Edit - also talking about injury lists, look at Brentfords v Arsenal

Joshua Dasilva
Ethan Pinnock
Kristoffer Ajer
Sepp van den Berg
Ben Mee
Mathias Jensen
Aaron Hickey
Rico Henry
Thiago Rodrigues
Mark Flekken
Gustavo Gomes

Now that's brutal.

Just watched the United/Newcastle game.....oh my.

United under Amorim look a lot like Arsenal under Emery; trying to instill a new formation/set-up with players that aren't suited to it in a league that doesn't give you time to settle in.

Its incredibly painful to watch as a supporter but hopefully Amorim will get more support and time than Emery was given.
