Yeah definitely needs to hit the weights in the offseason

Look how huge Naughton is now, a good/close example of bulking up
The reason I feel he'll be fine is despite his slight frame he still manages to beat key defenders in the contest fairly comfortably, add those kilos though? Watch out.

Do Fremantle stick with coaches for too long?
I think it'd be incredibly short sighted for us to fire Longmuir when there's no real alternatives out there for us to sign. I'll give him until the halfway point of next year before saying we need to move him on.

If we sacked him this off-season we'd be back to square one, clubs need to stick with coaches for longer than a few years.

Break the cycle Dockers. Hinkley levels of untouchable
What about 2022 when Freo won a final? LoL

Four years is quite a long time and there will always be great new coaches coming through, if you back yourself in to find the right one.

However I do respect the club wanting some stability. Next year is important.

It is in a sense, but at the same time, there's no real names that are standing out as head coach material, we're better off surrounding him with some better assistant coaches, I think Josh Carr moving had a bigger impact than most expected.

Why on ****ing earth would they sack him, because his young list underperformed this year and the BF legends are bagging him out?

Fremantle haven't actually played badly enough this season for Longmuir to get the sack imo.

Obviously it's finals or bust for him in 2024 (unless the Dockers have an extremely unlucky run of injuries)

Why is it finals or bust?

Does the same logic apply at Carlton if you lose your first final and don't make the finals next season?

Are there any good key position backs in the top 5 of this years draft? With Freo looking like they'll be bottom 5, this is a desperate need for them. Pearce is cooked. Desperately need a solid KPD.

I don’t think Pearce is cooked, he’s been carrying something. We have Pearce and Cox as our key back man, which isn’t too bad, and no worse than 12 of 18 teams across the league.

We have an injury prone Chapman (193cm). Hamling is nearing retirement. There is a young kid Davies who looks a solid prospect. I don’t think you can expect a gun from the draft to be impactful in our upcoming window. The player needs to be mature.

I’d hope we are throwing big cash at Sam Taylor as a free agent next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we approach GWS this year while he’s a pre-agent.

Our key stocks are otherwise pretty good:

FB: Pearce (28)
CHB: Cox (25)
Ruck: Darcy (25)
CHF: Jackson (21)
FF: Amiss (20)

Most of this group are elite (Darcy), borderline elite (Cox) or will improve with age (Jackson and Amiss).

Depth forward / ruck: Treacy (F/R) - best 22
Depth back: Hamling (30).

There is also Kuek, Draper, Knobel, Davies whom are development players.

I don’t think we are in a bad spot. We might need to replace Hamling with a mature body if he retires for some depth in the back line. Big shame Logue left, even bigger shame he did an ACL.

well the seasons done...

Crazy to think this was the 1st time in freos history the dockers beat the hawks at the MCG.

Dockers Beat the Hawks in Waverley foe the 1st time in 1997.

Dockers beat the hawks in for the 1st time Docklands in 2001.

Dockers beat the hawks for the 1st time in tassie in 2021

Hopefully a case of two steps forward one step back this last two years.

Yes we regressed this season in terms of win/loss but we’ve increased the level of talent considerably. Mature, bog average average players such Lobb, Logue and Tucker may have helped us to finish 7-10th but they weren’t taking us to a premiership. We just need to get some more experience into the talent we have.

We now have a bona fide future star at full forward who kicked 41 goals as the main focal point at 19 years old. That’s no mean feat considering the quality of our forward entries. We have the unicorn Jackson ready to explode next season. Young in the midfield, Chapman back in defence. 4 players in the 22 under 22 team. We are in fine shape. Considering our age profile and draw this season I wouldn’t consider this season a disaster at all and I’m keen to see what JL can do with this list next year.

Freo and Essington in the same boat - they have a few “nice” midfielders but lack hardness and belief.

Essington waits for the rotund Stringer to “ light them up”, Freo hopes Walters will do the same.

Freo’s coach isn’t the problem , players just don’t believe they can compete at the highest level.

Anchors and JL playing long game
First couple seasons defence was the focus in his third season finishing 5th
Defence can’t win flags on its own.
This season they’ve focused on attack.
We got smashed a couple times but scored 100pts 3 consecutive weeks for the first time since 2013
2018 freo leading goal kicker 22 goals
We had 5 players kick 22+ and 3 players kick 30+ in season 2023

They won't sack him. Nearly every year a team will come from the clouds and jump into the 8 and sometimes the top 4. Freo are primed to do just that as long as they don't get decimated with injuries.

Obviously a disappointing season, but I'm not necessarily unhappy with this year, there's a lot of good to take out of it.

Amiss should be Rising Star for kicking 41 goals in his second year alone, but the media have already decided it's Sheezel, Ashcroft or Owens when Amiss realistically has had a better season than the latter two.

I’d sack JLO now based on the club’s own stated timetable for success. He’ll probably be sacked at the end of next year after another season similar to this one, which is another year down the drain.

Who's replacing him now though? There's nobody worth it right now.
