Played with one less on the bench the whole second half and Constable who is a complete dead weight after half time. Limited preseason - literally a month behind the hawks. Anyone whining about today’s win truthfully doesn’t understand football in 2021 and belongs on ignore.
Can you explain football in 2021 ? Because that wasn’t football aka 2021 to my eyes.

the month less pre season is very literal this year... I hope they try and have a mini pre season at some point to build fitness come end of year. If we can bank enough wins which is a big “if” or somehow pencil in a period to even sacrifice a few wins potentially for the longevity of the season, or if they choose for periods of the season to give groups of players mini pre seasons in day groups of 4... it’s going to be a huge ask for the conditioning team to get this right

Do we have anyone coming back next week?

Early discussion is that Cameron should be available for our clash with Melbourne

And guess we'll see how Menegola is going, but considering he hadn't been ruled out of today's match until the weekend, thinking he may be a chance

Ling is like the Constable of Ch7. On the fringes and on thin ice.
Just saying what he has to say to hopefully not get delisted and pay off that 3rd mortgage.

he is absolute cringe worthy from a geelong fan perspective. Thought he is terribly bias against us for years in the box.

We look cooked. How can we be that unfit before even half way through the 3rd? Of a 10 day break no less. Don’t give me the limited pre-season bullshit cause it was long enough, and it’s not like the players get super unfit after 6 weeks off. It was only what, 4 months ago we were playing in the gf?
Have you ever played elite sport?
One thing that you do, is you peak, by easing off the hard training leading up to the big games.
Peaking for finals, add limited training throughout 2020, and 6 weeks less preparation compared to other teams.
It’s elite sport and you only need to be 10% off to get shown up. No surprise that the teams that went deep into finals are struggling.
The truth will reveal itself in about a month, just got to keep banking the wins.

We are victims of not having been ahead of the game. It's been clear for some time that pace, stamina, and quickly finding the open man is the way of the future. The change to the man-on-the-mark and interchange rules have hastened the game transformation.

There are a number of clubs who are ahead of the game, none more so than the dish lickers. Well drilled, pace, stamina, and smart with recruiting. They will only get a year or two out of Stefan Martin but he's taking the pressure off Tim English while allowing him to develop. They also have depth.

That said, we have players to return and we didn't shoot out of the blocks last year either. He says with fingers crossed.🤞

Can’t ever remember being so flat after a win. Very few positives to take out of that performance.

I don't get the negativity. We knew we weren't fit enough to run out the game so we got a lead on the board and then held it. We went into hold the lead mode effectively from the halfway point of the first quarter and pulled it off. Match fitness will return and so will availability and when it does we can turn it on for much longer.

We're also in a stage where no one has figured out what an effective defensive system should look like for 2021. Let's check back in for round 8

Hope Frankie is not to bad
I noticed after the siren sounded that him & Higgins slowly made their way out onto the oval
- Frankie was using crutches, still had his footy boot on his left foot and his right foot/ankle was strapped, but no moon boot

Higgins looked a little slow, but didn't seem to be struggling too much

Sorry to say but i think the Dees will destroy us next week if we serve up the same as today, they are up and about, carrying players like Constable and Dahlhaus who has done nothing this year hurts even more when you are 2 down already, we have great depth but the fringe players just arent performing at all. Also lets get Neale in for a game, cant be any worse than bloody Stanley and i actually like Stanley.

Most of that is probably fair.

What you describe as “hold the lead mode” is pretty close to our preferred game style though and I don’t like it.
