Sure. I would say my definition of prolific is different to mine. I think his game probably met the minimum benchmark expectes for the average full time midfielder. That's a jump from last year. Overall I think our midfield is bad 👎

Can't think of a comparison for Bruhn. I don't see much in common with Marc Murphy who was a very under rated player.

Dempsey reminds me of Fyfe when flying for the ball. Not sure about the rest of his game.
For a standard 85% time on ground game, Bruhn's 20 disposals would be about 26. He's not really turning over the ball much anymore so I'd say it's decent. We haven't really been a team with 30 plus guys for 6 years at gleast. We had almost 10 with 20 disposals or more last night, I think.

Bruhn has only just started his second season as a full time midfielder and is a year or two off when they typically break out.

He went close to 20 disposals a game in the back half of 2023 on 65% game time as a 21 year old. The criticism was always silly even with his room to improve.

How much of the ground was a standing terrace back then? I remember standing in the Gary Ablett Terrace in the 1990's - that was cool but it was only a tiny pizza slice of the whole KP pizza pie!

I'd say about half of every home-ground in the VFL days was pretty much standing room, with a couple of rows going round at the fence. Made playing kick to kick alot easier and you could walk around to whatever end God was kicking goals.

Bruhn faded in the last even after being on the ground less. Could be fitness or could be because he was sore. I guess we will know next week

If he could play effectively outside of the midfield it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Going to just dismiss his game high 8 tackles are we? He had two more than one of the best tacklers in the comp in Jack Steele - it's an incredible effort to be that defensive, but still be able to rack up 20 disposals.

I guess some people are never happy though, and can't change their deeply held beliefs when it comes to a player they don't rate.

Excellent analysis Cataholic, experienced. I learn so much from you, for which I’m thankful.
May I ask your opinion on Lyon’s flooding style, but when it fails he has the team regroup + kind of run away + spread? It’s ugly, typically repugnant tactics.
How does Geelong take control + kick the ball forward?

Ps: I don't quite know how to articulate this, but I'd also say our forwards were too.....stagnant, reactive.....and not proactive enough.

They didn't really attack the ball imo, and were spectators at times, choosing to watch their opponents and see what they were going to do with the ball before reacting.

Mannagh displayed what we're missing from the likes of Close and Stengle atm.

What are you talking about? Go outside and touch some grass

He's actually added to his outside game by being useful on the spread. Decision making and execution has improved. He pops up around half forward or the wing now sometimes. There were a lot of silly errors in 2023, the types of which Clark currently makes and will also iron out over time.

Your retort last year was that Bruhn needed to move to 20+ disposals, no matter the game time. Well he cracked it after missing almost a quarter with a knock that who knows, could have sidelined him completely. His tackling, pressure and contested work was strong. It'll keep getting better. He's 22.

The goalposts will continue to move until it is too silly to continue. It's all good.

Clark looks good but his disposal efficiency is atrocious.
It was a horror night execution wise for him. Endeavor was excellent. It was his first full game at AFL level (praccy matches are great but it's still intensity off to a degree). There was enough to see where you want 10, 20, 50 games pumped into him as quickly as possible.

Bruhn was considered poor across the board by position last year - im not sure how you could argue otherwise. We didn't make finals on the back of a poor midfield in which he was a primary part of.

Yes, I expect him to improve on that this year. I said he met the minimum benchmark for a mid last night which is a tick. Not sure why you are getting your panties in a twist over that.

The negativity of this board is crazy. How we can have a win like last night and the majority of comments are negative is beyond me. Perspective, I guess.
It was a fantastic win. Lots to improve on obviously but good first up win.

SDK worries me a great deal. He looks the same as what he did last year. He fumbles and drops marks far too much.

Hmm i think we need someone who can be a run and jump marking target like Rohan usually is for us.

Hawk isn't that type either is Cameron.

If Stengle is injured i would tempt bringing in Neale as that type of player.

Yep, we need someone to present, to run at the ball carrier, to contest.

We can't have a bunch of guys just hanging back and waiting for the ball drop.
