6 wins on the trot a bit flattering. Look at crows, bulldogs and tigers games. Not top 4 type quality performances.

Hrmmm, they weren't great, but you'd be hard pressed to find a Top 4 or Premier who doesn't have some of those types of games in their seasons. Some weeks you've just got to grind out the win.

Healthy debate and discussion is great, it’s the usual suspects that remain bitter and keep bringing up past finals failures the last few years. This kind of stuff is in the past and not relevant to season 2020. They should think themselves lucky they don’t barrack for Saints, Dees, Blues etc. At least we keep on putting ourselves in a position to give ourselves a chance. Too many have been spoilt over the years

I get where you're coming from, but i think it's fair to be a bit frustrated with our recent track record in finals. If you're good enough to get there you should be good enough to win it, and we have had a pretty good side since 2016 and failed. Losing like we did tonight just adds to that sense of frustration given who we've had most heartbreak at the hands of recently. I dont see it as being spoilt, the club does the work to get ourselves into that position, we should expect that we can finish it off.

Besides, it's a post game thread after a loss, people are entitled to vent a bit in here.

Playing Bews as a distributor further up the ground is a worry with his poor disposal. He was essentially invisible tonight and on the odd occasion he did have it he either coughed it straight up or slowed our movement with an innocuous chip sideways to a player in a less attacking position.

This sort of role needs to be handed to Clark who has more run, can mark better and has more penetrating delivery by foot.

if we persist with Bews in this role I fear our finals campaign will flounder once again.

People acting like we have left Hawkins unsupported all year and must now play Sav or Jenkins seem to have missed the part where Rohan didn't play tonight.
Do you think having Rohan in tonight would have changed the result?

Told you all hawkins would be double teamed when it mattered. best thing, however, is that it didnt truly matter and this happened before the finals.

we finally switch to two tall fowards late in the third and guess what. Those two talls take 5 marks inside fifty in the last quarter kicking 2 goals 1 and another out on the full.

sav must play and play as a foward. He may uave kicking issues but he takes grabs. A whopping 5 contested marks tonight. Stanley to ruck.

Agree with this. Rhys to ruck and either Save or Jenkins in as well as Rohan for Atkins.

Yeah it's always Bew's fault when we lose hey.

Geelong had Jarvis debut tonight. Doesn’t that say something about how serious Geelong were about this game? No Selwood or Stanley either. If this was a do-or-die final do you think those two would be missing if they were at 80 percent? I don’t think they would. It wasn’t a cut throat final.

Anyway I thought the narrative on this board that this match wasn’t that important as West Coast already lost against the Bulldogs. Now after the loss Geelong might not even beat Sydney or won’t show up during the finals? It’s the same old, same old.

Geelong had Atkins, Fogarty even Dahlhaus was playing in the centre sqaure in the last quarter. I’m not sure Geelong would be lining up like that during the finals.

Jarvis did a couple of nice things in both the 2nd and 3rd quarter. I don’t think he will be playing finals though because of his inexperience. Close has shown tonight he isn’t ready for finals footy just yet. Ratugolea throws a bit of a spanner in the works with his form tonight. Does this change the structure a little?

There’s already a few things Geelong can take out of this game.

Richmond to there credit are a great side and when they’re streaming forward in packs and perpetually moving the ball forward by any means necessary it looks hard for teams to stop at times.

Menegola was disappointing in the first quarter and lifted his intensity for the rest of the game. Hopefully him and Guthrie learn from this game and play this years final series the way they have for most of year, which is great football. Which could see them both selected in the 40 man squad for All Australian for the first time in their careers.

The forward half pressure was almost non exsistent tonight, which is usually one of Geelongs strong points. With about 5 or 6 experience players coming in hopefully this will help with that.

Geelong have played some great footy this year and probably surprised a few people of how well they played. For the most part at the start of the year they have been underrated and not seen as a team who could challenge for the premiership. Who would of thought after the first round Geelong would be where they are right now compared to where GWS are.

Hopefully Geelong haven’t shown all their cards tonight. I don’t feel like they have.

Do I feel Geelong will win the premiership? Who knows. If they don’t end up winning it though, I don’t feel it was because of tonight’s loss to be fair.

I remember earlier in the season some posters were upset when Geelong lost to Gold Coast in the first pre season match and saying Geelong are a mediocre side. I would jokingly post after one of Geelong victories how they still lost to Gold Coast in the first pre season game and how much does the victory really mean because of that.

Even in the loss against Carlton some people were posting that Geelong are now a mediocre side and won’t play finals. The reality of it is though, is Geelong are in the top 4 and are into another final series.

Before the game some people were saying this match didn’t matter. Now after the match Geelong don’t have the team or game plan to win a tough final or might even be eliminated in straight sets?? That is if they don’t lose to Sydney and not make it into the top 4.

I’m going to look up the word fickle and see what Oxford dictionary has to say.

I’m just going to wait and see what happens from here. Be proud how Geelong have played this year as I feel not many people expected Geelong to be in the position they are in. Hopefully Chris Scott wasn’t showing he’s full hand. With the players missing tonight, I personally feel that Geelong weren’t going 100 percent tonight. I could be wrong though, just wait and see.

A lot can happen in a month. People thought West Coast would be in the top four if Geelong lost tonight just less than a week ago, how did that play out? Richmond lost against Collingwood in a prelim a couple of years ago when they were favourite to win the flag. Even one of Geelongs most dominant teams ever lost a Grand Final in 2008.

Wait and see, maybe everything’s going to be okay.

The only positive spin you can put on it - ( and the opposition had a bit to do with it ) was how poorly Geel played - the mistakes they made - Guthrie streams out of the centre - kicks it straight to a Rich player . Miers again being selfish - didnt give the 1st option handpass - and gets caught holding the ball - Henry ( in a similar position on the ground to Miers ) gave a shocking handpass to Dangerfield . Dalhaus handpass to Hawkins - terrible

Geelong couldnt have played any worse - the unforced errors there were stacks of them

Agree that is the only comfort we can take. But will they learn? Henry was putrid. Last week against Essendon he shot a particularly risky kick without looking right across ground at half back. It just made it and I thought then you better not try that next week. So what happens- he does it again, only this week to one out against three tigers. He also sometimes just lays it onto the boot so panic stricken- and hopes for the best, notwithstanding opp lurking forwards. Look he's inconsistent and risky- must develop more composure.

A lot of players were down or missing tonight. They just look far more faster than us, they close the spaces and they rebound a lot quicker than us.

Thought SavRat had some impact though, he was okay. Hawkins was double/triple teamed often tonight, they need to sort that out. I mean, Noah Balta is surprisingly strong and fast, he probably could hold down Tomahawk to more limited impact himself.

Lots of bloody excellent points in this post. A good and timely reminder, gocats88!

At least watching that shitshow was able to make a little $$ off the game. $2.20 an hour before the game on the Tigers was money for jam
Think I'll put some cash on if we play the Tugs again - if we lose, there's some cash to help out and if we win, well - that's worth spending $100 on

My only hope, and it's just the optimist in me is that while I know they didn't lose on purpose, maybe they were holding their cards a bit close.. We should have some very good players back in for the game against Sydney and remember we flogged Richmond during the season last year and it didn't stop them. This whole game was just a big bag of meh mixed with some wtf. It was like watching a completely different team
