Autopsy Geelong lose to Richmond by 26 points.. but it really wasnt that close

Game was lost at selection very dissapointing performance. Arrogant to pick a debutant and change structure against such a good team. We have the team and game plan to win again. But we should all be nervous not knowing if the best team will be picked for finals. Some very good players to come back in. But still a really poor effort just before finals.

This is my favourite structure and my preference for finals. Sav is seriously dangerous in the air (albeit his kicking is a real worry) and he’s shown the ability to perform in big games in last years semi.

Stanley clearly our best ruck. It’s not even debatable.

He really needs to work on his kicking.. LoL

Thought Sav was good. Finals Henderson turned up though.
I still feel positive. It feels like it's in our hands now.
Usually some players and particularly the coach are almost surprised by finals pressure when the time comes.
Now we know only 2 weeks out. Time to adjust and get the players ready.
We know what's coming.
This was the game we had to have. We now know that hawkins as sole foward wont work in finals. We now know we need the big experience bodies in the coal face come finals. Selwood and stevens need to play.

Scott out coached again in another big game, just never learns. Still got finals to get it right but ive minimal confidence. Menegola, Duncan and Gutherie gave us nothing. Silver lining is it's home and away and no injuries
Yep. Those three highly touted improvers went AWOL when the heat was on.
Not sure what to take from this game other than a feeling of deja vu.
Maybe we were just foxing? :p

I think that patch in the last was how Chris will want to play them next time and I think the team can deliver it.

Bring in a dedicated ruck, bring in Rohan and bring in the form of that "patch" and we're laughing

I think Scott learned his lesson about showing form too early - I'm not losing my head over that game.

Thought Finals Danger came to the fore though - tried to do too much himself

We get sentimental around here about some of our younger players, but tonight should put to bed any delusion about who should and shouldnt be playing from next week.

Sav
Parfitt
Close
Atkins
Miers
Fogarty
Jarvis

Almost all of that 7 can come out next week and nothing of value would be lost. Maybe Parfitt can stay but id be tempted to bring Clarke in.

Ablett, Selwood, Stanley, Jenkins, Rohan, and Steven all come in next week depending on fitness. Time to stop with the selection games and select a team that know how to play football at an elite level and under finals pressure. We have the pieces, it's time we put them on the board. You cant play Richmond without 2 tall forwards, it's that simple and so obvious it's beyond debate at this point.

I agree mostly but would leave Miers in, Henderson out and replace Jenkins with Clarke

Disgustingly outplayed, outworked and out-coached by the best team of the last 3 years.

Played 5 min of good, fast footy and kicked 3 goals 🤦‍♂️

Mission accomplished?

Did Lynch do a hammy or was that precautionary? I hit mute as soon as it became clear we were going to lose, so I didn't hear the explanation for what happened.

Hoping he misses at least the first final.
Pulled up sore with a suspected hamstring issue - commentators suggested he should be right come finals

Meanwhile Soldo is done for the year

I don’t even reckon there was that much pressure. Wouldn’t surprise me if we out-pressured them. Just a lot of dumb play and really scared play.

Perceived pressure? Whatever it was it’s in our heads now. And will be very difficult to not be an anchor next time we play them. They know they have it over us too.

Our skill level and as you say “dumb play” was really disappointing. I thought we’d be better than that. Blicavs and Stewart can hold their heads high. Maybe Ratagolea and Guthrie. Dangerfield was terrible. Duncan the same. You don’t expect much from Close and Atkins but you’d think D and D would stand up...

So why. Why does this continue to occur. Always a change, never consistency, play one game then dropped, bring in debutantes, throw the team out of balance. Must be scary being a geelong player, do we go hard and make a mistake then get dropped or do we just do the mimimum with no mistakes in the hope of being selected next week.

Based on what?
They have won 2 of the last 3 premierships for a reason. They are better than everyone else and they still have a couple of their best players waiting to return to the line up.

Based on everything I've seen.
1 game doesn't mean all that much in the grand scheme on things, if it did we'd never have won 2007, or 2009, or 2011, nor would Richmond have won last year, or even ANY Premier in recent history.
1 game means very, very little.
But what I did see was a complete breakdown of our structures both forward and back and we lost all system around the contest. We couldn't have played much worse, and those who really let us down are placeholders for far better players.
We simply were out-worked by a side that was more desperate and we played right into their hands.
If everyone wants to declare the season over and the GFC should be dissolved over 1 game then go for it, but it's just that, 1 game, and for us it's 1 game that came at the absolute perfect time. Dawn of finals, against a finals like team with almost nothing up for grabs.

You're shitting on Sav after the game he just played?

I wish i could agree with that. Its just the same shit different year... Yes we came back in the last quarter, but they kicked away again... Just accept it we aren't good enough...
