Interesting reference in article about Dees in the Age about us chasing Gysberts. Encouraging, even though he is under contract we are obviously casting the net pretty wide to fill this gap. Seems like we are on the ball this trade period.

Gysberts? Mmmmmmm no thanks

This.
I actually dont think we will get anyone this trade period. Atleast no-one we want :D
I dont know why but it seems Geelong just cant get players when teams like the Swans get decent players CHEAP...
Is it because we are targetting the wrong players? Or is it just that we prefer to grown our own so dont take advantage when we can? Or is it Geelong is a shit place to live and no-one wants to come here? :p

He will come cheap
Smart play
Gillies for gysberts

I reckon it hinges on who will comprise the coaching staff for 2013 and beyond and whether Port take some positive action to improve their off field set-up. If he's satisfied with the direction of the club in those matters methinks he'll stay. Although all of us would like to see it done and dusted it’s a big decision for him and there is no need for him to rush it.

Its depends on how long its going to take them to organise a replacement coaching panel.
If they havent done it by say mid september it wouldnt bode well in keeping Boak - especially if he returns home for the off season he might well get caught up in the Geelong finals hype ;)

You forgot $$$

I've hung around with a few players. Moons etc.

And they don't spend a dime. They don't have time to. All they think about is "how many eggs have I eaten this week"

How much would you love to be paying off a new house every 2 years?
People think spending money is infectious. Having and saving money is far, far, far more infectious.

Yeah exactly VC.
Clubs nowdays have very good financial advisors that coach players on how to invest & spend their money to make a good living after footy, only the foolish arent set up after footy given that they practically pay for none of the essentials whilst playing.

Not to mention the fact that Id be thinking with Simonds Homes being a major sponsor the players would get a pretty decent discount in building new homes.

I remember Gysberts when he first started and was really impressive. I think its fairly clear that Melbourne's development of players isnt anywhere near what Geelong does.

Depending in the cost, would be a handy pick up. Needs more physical development for sure, but could mature into a handy player with the right tutelage.

What would he be worth? From memory he was a first founder, so what would the Dee's want in return?

Didn't he debut against us down at KP?
Yep, had around 20-25 possies iirc.

I reckon he goes alright, nice midfield size at 189cm and as a junior was a good user of the pill. Worth a look for mine.

This is how the Swans get players on the cheap. They take fringe players and back their player development coaches to bring them along. Something that our guy's should be looking at doing.

Speaking to a mate about Gysberts.

Apparently has really good hands and a good user of the ball.
Got his jaw broken in the VFL at KP having been out prior after having a ankle injury.

Just hasn't had a chance to get fit, he is undersized and needs a good pre-season.

Mate said they would offer a straight swap for the Hawk....I asked if the rest of the club was going with Gysberts!

Sounds like he could be a good pickup, but he thought he was under contract at the Dees.

On Gysberts he is an inside mid and good user of the ball. His year has been smashed through injury, ankle kept him out early and then broken jaw against Geelong (VFL) in first game for year. He started playing again 4 weeks ago and has constantly been best in VFL but obviously because of his broken jaw has lost weight and fitness and I'm not sure whether he'll play this year for us again. We picked him up with pick 11 in 2009 draft (he's 21) and got rising star nominations twice (once in 2010 and again in 2011). His first game was against Geelong at KP where he got 26 touches and was named our best. He got his Rising star nomination (2010) the game after where he got a game high 27 touches and 4 clearances. He's played 19 games and averages 19 disposals a game and is under contract next year for us. He's a young player I definitely wouldn't want to lose and IMO should develop to be a good player.....it won't be a 'cheap' trade if you are to get him.

Good summary and I agree, there's bound to be plenty of players the Demons would want to cull before Gysberts, especially if he's under contract for 2013. My gut feel is that he's worth pursuing, but I'm not sure if I'd want to pay for him with any of our emrging young senior players (which is probably what Melbourne would want), so again, it would probably cost us a draft pick in the high teens/early twenties, or multiple later picks.

I'd still love to see what we could do with Sylvia, if he came down to the Cattery.

Mmm, may be a little too old - we need someone with a few more years left, he is 26 after all.
Realistically, it takes new players from other clubs at least half a season to find their groove & fit in.

I would love to get Sylvia. He looks like the kind of guy that just gets frustrated playing with a bunch of baffoons.

In a good environment and under the leadership of Scott, Bartel, Selwood & Co, would be a great get.
