The wives always cop it when a big name player wants to change states.

Not at all, her husband signed a mega 5 year deal. He broke his then contract with Freo for a reason no one wants to talk about on here as it might tip more hot water on the situation. Hopefully his wife had a say on first breaking the contract, which I’m sure she did, and then signing a 5 year multi million dollar deal +++ for a team that played in Brisbane??

Is it convenient that this has come up when Freo will have pick 6 from us to trade and now he wants to go home?

I think Freo would be mad to trade for him. Keep the pick, stay on course and bank the money…

How many times do I need to say this - money is no substitute for the love and support of family and close friends, especially when you are about to give birth.

Also its not as if the WA Rockstar footy culture is for everyone (certainly didn't help Ben Cousins and Michael Gardiner from being caught up in the toxic addiction industry)

Players have more money and luxuries than ever, but by the same token they have lost many of life's privileges we take for granted, like going to a bar or a movie or a restaurant with their partner or mates without being harassed (case in point, the drama with Shai Bolton, Dan Rioli and his partner months ago)

I am sorry but your argument that Wives/Wags knew what they signed up for is no excuse for idiots abusing and degrading them on social media etc.

They have a choice NOT to play football. They have a choice NOT to marry a footballer.

Well then, he should do the right thing and retire and give back the millions that he has in credit from Brisbane.

As you said, money isn’t everything…

I agree with the idiots bit FYI…

Better not bring up the name Bartel(xwife) then!

I dont recall why he broke has contract with Freo , are you able to hint what it might have been ?

Hey Thy, how are you?? Long time no chat.

I negotiate contracts all the time. As I say to all of them before they sign it, take this away and have a think about it for a couple of days because once you sign that’s it…
hey, goreds............that ain't the way we deal with our families and relationships though is it?

Nope, but he has a choice to retire and move back to WA, yes? If he believes it that strongly, then it’s his and his wife’s choice to walk away from the game for the betterment of his family and the honorable thing to do…

Are we talking 65k full house??

I like crowds.👍
I think it only holds 60,000. But hopefully 60K are there and as many as possible can go as able, for two competing teams. Had preference it at 2-30 pm there time but knew it would not be so not that fussed now. Like you, just happy it will have a crowd and FULL LENGTH quarters.

All this cause a footy player wants to change club?

Who tf cares. He can change if he wants to.

Agree, IF (and it’s coming) footy clubs can move players on when they feel like it.

It’s a business now days and clubs plan years in advance for TPP and trade scenarios, list balance age/positions etc…

Good for the goose…

So you’re saying when he signed the contract he and more importantly his WIFE had no idea they were going to have children in the next 5 years??? Come on.

Football is going to give this child a decent life and future. His wife should have known what she signed for in the world of AFL…

Under normal circumstances I would tend to agree but one could fairly easily make the argument that the COVID climate has changed their thinking, and that's something they could not have possibly considered when they made their choice, because it didn't exist.

I always kind of find these conversations to be a bit weird. If you had the flexibility around contracts that AFL players have, you would probably take advantage of it; ergo, why are people getting annoyed with another person making a decision they themselves in the same situation might also make?

I think AFL salaries and the life playing a sport we love make people see green sometimes.

True, but family members and siblings have accidents and die from tragic illnesses every day. Any professional footballer would have to factor this into the equation. Blaming the missus...which is what he is doing is weak. Every footballer could cite Covid for wanting to return to their home State.
