Rhett Bartlett has recently downloaded a few games from 1979 and it’s great to see Russell running around in the VFL, how his North Melbourne side didn’t make the GF is a mystery it is literally stacked with Hall of Famers.

Remember when we got a PEN with a pull out fixture! At some stage I couldn't get it to retract again, which made writing letters and cheques a bit awkward.

Geez It's Been Worth It by Albert Ebert has some of Russell's thoughts on this. From memory North Melbourne were smashed with injuries that year and Ron Barassi was distracted with outside commitments away from football.
