Maybe cats are looking at McCartin and Goddard from the falcons as key position depth which we now lack.

Goddard as a rookie maybe. McCartin has too many injury ? Youd only really get him to try and get his brother next year (both friends with Brownless) but i wouldn't bother TBH.

FYI if we dont get a KPF but get all the other players we are linked to i expect it to look like this (i dont want Hall this is just assuming we do):

Keep Duncan Kelly etc.
Pick 56 for Rohan and 66.
Dahlhaus UFA
Menzel out to St Kilda UFA (no compo as Dahlhaus brought in)
Smith/Abbott plus 47 and 54 to GWS for 44 49 and 67 (you could do a similar deal with WCE who need ruck cover but lets assume this)
Picks 44 and 49 to Sydney for 34 (points for Blakey for them).
KK and Hall and pick 41 in for GHS, Thurlow, 34 and our 2019 R3 and R4 (essentially Hall for R3 which is fair and KK for Thurlow GHS and a late pick and an upgrade, they will want more but with the injuries i doubt he is worth more).
41 + McCarthy for Martin.
Murdoch to Adelaide for 68 (or free to a good home somewhere).

Leaves you 11 for the draft plus 55 and 66 67 and 68 for covering bids (ability to go into 2019 deficit if needs be).

First 22:
B: Bews Blicavs JK
HB: Touhy Hendo Stewart
C: Hall Duncan Kelly
HF: Parfitt Sav Menegola
F: Dahlhaus Hawkins Ablett
R: Martin Selwood Dangerfield
Int: Henry Cockatoo Guthrie Rohan

Basically gives you reserves of HT Scootee Stanley Smith/Abbott KK Constable Cunico Fogarty Zuthrie Miers OConnor Buzza Jones Simpson and some draftees (Brownless Scott and our R1).

Gives better ruck depth and more wing and running defender options and run and better forward pressure. Still need more depth at CHF but apart from that an improvement.
Definite improvement.
You forgot Narkle in that mix
I would also have Stanley orScoot ahead of Guthrie on this years form
And who would you pick with our 11 come 15 pick

Just got home from the SANFL prelim between North Adelaide and the Eagles. Connor Rozee played for North Adelaide and was incredible. Chasing down small fast players, taking species over ruckman at key times to turn the game. They were 8 goals down and got up by 5 points. He was fundamental to this win against real men, and he just wants to be the one to do the hard work to turn it around. Damn, he is good. I hope he gets to our pick but I suspect he will rip out another dominating performance in the grandie next week and go too early.

I think that Ratugolea may fill the post in 2019.

We could do with another medium tall forward who is strong over head, good below the knees, and a reliable kick to help take the pressure off Hawkins. I am thinking of something like Menzel (before injuries) and Steve Johnson when he played HFF. Jack Henry can play that role, but I would not mind another 190cm+ good forward on the list. But yes, I agree that we are short on developing taller forwards.
I hope he does, but for some reason I don't know why I think his leg will take another 12 months to get better. Like when James Kelly, it took him 1 full season to get better.

But we also need a young key forward to replace Hawkins in years to come.

Confirmation of what I have been saying for post upon post. The Herald Sun is so on top of this stuff ...

and it gets worse ...

The Cats have clarified with the AFL they are allowed to trade their first-round pick and their future first-round pick for this year’s exchange period.

Of course I have also said... it the last thing I want... so we will see what the club does
This is scary

I was pleased we are finally going to use our first rounder at the draft
Instead it appears the club is planning to squander it yet again

Dont really like it cos he has a lot of problems, bit short for KPF, concussion problems and slow.

Cant really play Hawkins, McCartin and Sav in the same forward line (you could but not with Ablett also)

I dont think the saints would let him go for less than a mid second rounder.

Would rather get talls when drop down the ladder further.
We've got Hawkins who is going on 31 and Ratougolea who is a kid, going to need to bridge that age gap at some point and I honestly think McCartin could be anything yet, he'll be 23 early in the year and has missed alot of footy.

If the R1 was on the table, it would have to be for something very, very good which would fix a current hole (and have a big structural impact), or cover an ageing star - and either would have to still be young talent.

Just as examples, 2MP comes to mind, as does Hopper at GWS (and I’m sure there’d be many more that could be thrown in) - but it could be that salary cap pressures at both clubs have our recruiters thinking something good could be obtainable in exchange for a pick in this year’s ‘super’ draft (at least in the early rounds). I also appreciate we’d have to top up either of those trades future picks / players, but enquiring with the afl clearly helps assess all available options.

I wouldnt say squander .. but to use it..and worse if the use 2019... it really restricts us for a long time
Ive got a really bad feeling we are going to do something stupid like tradw our 1st for Martin or Darcy, KP will burn if the club does that.

I watched the game on tv, yeah your right he’s a gun, I’m thinking definite top 10 player at the moment and if he has a blinder GF could end up in the top 5. By the way did you hear what happened in the final qtr of that game? Massive balls up that could’ve cost North the game.

Gold Coast are linked to him at 3

Adelaide will take him at 7 if he's there and he might even go before that. No chance to get to us.

I'm fascinated why these fledgling clubs haven't come after Harry.
He would be Hodge like (at Brisbane) directing a team forward.
For example, if he went to gold coast, he might be able to convince May to stay and how to structure up their team.
I reckon that and Dew getting in the gym to lose 50 kgs would move that team forward.
Even Barlow said they have no edge

McCartin's not worth a R1 and we have no R2 and we need the later picks for Brownless.

I'd trade 11 for 2MP but with Lynch leaving Suns won't do it.

We are not going to trade our R1 for a 32yo and Freo won't trade Darcy, don't panic.

How was Woodcocks?

“ ... the horror, the horror ...”

The trade talk names are exactly that. Unless we can get a good ruck/forward and/or a pressure forward WHO ARE UNDER 26, CAN KICK WELL, RUN BOTH WAYS WITH GOOD PACE AND ARE NOT CHONCIALLY INJURED ... please, please just stick with our draft picks. We’ve already got stacks of the rest.

Gahhhhh, all you reasonable posters making me wonder if McCartin isn't such a bad idea (if we do even look at him).

If anyone watched the Pie GWS game ... there were several fluffed marks that contributed to Pies goals ... I was think they lacked someone like Harry has always been good at those.

Dew needs to have a hard look.. get on the shakes or something
