Rendell should apply for any vacant Essendon positions. He’d be perfect.
Based on the players he's drafted he has an eye for talent and understanding who will develop well with those top picks.

List management wise he is an absolute nuffy.

Pegged De Goey as Collingwood's best mid 2 years ago when they wouldn't play him there also.

Future 1st and 18 is plenty for henry and bruhn when both are ooc.

Yep..its just a matter of find what GC demand... whether that sav or picks... we just have find that.

Shame we did not have a fraction more to bargain with them for 5 rather than 7

I think it’s important to retain esava. I think he played well behind the ball and will be successful as a key defender to partner SDK.

His athleticism and reach to spoil balls and fly for intercept marks (think his round 1 v Essendon intercept this text).

Can see him flourishing at CHB with assured players around him

I think we definitely need another kpd or two on the list so im not against keeping sav but i think we can fill his spot with a drafted kpd or a DFA type kpd if sav is traded.

Esava played ok in games where we were well in control. Even in the VFL before he was recalled he had 5 possessions. Not that possessions are a solid guide but his positioning was awful. He was just running around the D50 like a lost lamb.

I know he was put there late and I hope a pre-season back there improves him but I just don't see it.

Yeah a lot of work to do, I thought he did a pretty good job on Darling got done for a couple nothing frees against.

Cannot believe this year.

Trade season shaping up to be as good if not better than the premiership, Just getting Ollie or Bruhn in would have been a pass mark, getting them both (seems highly probable) + an excellent prime age player in Bowes AND pick 7?
Nuts.

Go Catters.
Mackie will FedEx pick 18 to Collingwood so it's on their desk first thing in the morning

Pies already asked for 18 for Henry so I say do it, and F1 should easily get Bruhn. I am thinking we shouldn’t push the incredible run we are having too far and just land them.
Think they asked for more than 18 tbh, isnt that where the whole stalemate talk has come from?

The jury is still out on both of them after two seasons in the system. Both have potential... but then again, so does Sav.

Bruhn's progress seemed to stall this year and he only played one game of real note... however encouragingly, that was when he was given a midfield role. Getting cleaned up by essentially running straight into Cordy's shoulder in round 22 was an odd incident. Not sure if it was a spatial awareness sort of thing but he was totally oblivious to Cordy's presence.

Ollie Henry showed a bit in a couple of games and snagged a few goals but at this stage is still very green and inconsistent in his output. Very much a confidence player at the moment and can fluff absolute sodas in front of goal or go missing for the entire match if he starts poorly.

Happy to get both on board but clearly their trade value has diminished since being recruited and being OOC reduces it even further. Late first round is generous for either of them. Early second is probably what other clubs would offer in a similar situation but the Cats like to get these sort of deals done.
And we don’t have early seconds or much chance of getting any.

Pies fan:

I wonder if the narrative on this board would be different if we had the cap space to bring in Bowes.
Other clubs complained that Collingwood have an unfair advantage because we play in front of big crowds every week, we don't travel as much, we don't play in Tassie, we play in marquee games like Anzac day etc.
The reality is the clubs like Geelong and Richmond have taken advantage of the situation because they managed cap space better than us. We need to do the same and leverage our advantages.
It wasn't that long ago that players didn't want to go to Geelong (sleepy hollow vibe, poorly run) and Richmond (basket case) but they've managed to turn it around
Every club has it's point of difference. It's just that most clubs don't leverage theirs.

:clapping:

Nah it was the reverse. We said we didn't want to give up a first, and that's what they wanted. All posturing though, and I expect that's what they'll end up giving - but they're just seeing what happens in the meantime

Gut feel is Henry deal wont get done without 7 being involved one way or another as much as I'd like to keep it, Pies well within their rights to play hard ball.

Are they? If he was contracted then by all means, but he's not. They're dreaming if they think they can get pick 7.

Different scenario I know, but none of us where crying out last year thinking Freo should hand over pick 10 for Jordan Clark, even if it was a pick upgrade.

I can see why they're emotional, they're not used to guys wanting out, but it's going to be pick 18 whether they like it or not.

It's quite ridiculous isn't it - it wasn't that long ago that no one was interested in coming to Geelong.

It's just whinging from other clubs, plain and simple (but mainly journalists and ex-players it seems) surrounding Geelong's ability to attract talent - they want to penalize us for having a strong club culture?

Players aren't coming for money, the club has simply implemented a workplace culture that is an attractive proposition to prospective employees (= footballers).

The club's location is definitely a bonus as we are the only semi-rural club in the country; short of forcing the club to relocate these moaners are just going to have to suck it up.

We've got no COLA, no extra league assistance propping us up - it's been clever management and a somewhat unorthodox approach (i.e. less contact hours) that attracts players to the club - then good coaching and more good management to capitalize on our ability to get people through the door.

DKing was unhappy on the trade show tonight. He was talking about bans for the top 4 sides trading or something like that.

Its sort of what happens when a theory balloon breaks.... a lot of hot air escapes. Geelong cant do this or that after winning. flag against the defined model...etc.

If we want to we change the system ... a player of certain standard gets rated as a certain number of points rather than based on what they are prepared to play for. Watch that system melt like hot butter when they try it....

Exactly. They're the ones that gave the green light for it to go ahead - and GC have privately and publicly given their reasoning for it to go ahead. Every reporter has reported on it, without any exceptions. It's crazy, but it's a way for GC to reset once and for all, and go big in attracting a free agent in the next two years.

all was good..til it was us that was the recipient

I don't mind Menegola, but if you're looking at his career I wouldn't be one to keep referencing 2020.

He's a solid enough player, but the 2020 season is the outlier in his career, not the mean.
AA squad inclusion is just one metric to use. Best and fairest placings or raw statistics are others.

He's only had 4 proper seasons (>12 games). In 2020 he finished 6th in the B&F. He placed 6th in 2017 as well, 9th in 2018, but not top 10 in 2021. So it's easier to argue that 2021 was his outlier in his career rather than 2020. If he was top 5 in 2020 but not even top 10 in the rest you'd have a solid point.

Stats wise it's difficult to split him on anything across his time at the Cats. I would've thought consistency rather than starring sometimes and going missing at others, was one of his main characteristics.

Didn't hear this much whinging when Richmond were able to poach Gold Coast's captain and the best young KF prospect in the comp to the club the year after they'd won the flag - Bowes is a fringe player; securing #7 will be the first time we've had a top 10 ND selection in since Nakia Cockatoo.

The real issue is that nobody wants to play for the Suns or the Giants. We paid a huge price when those teams were admitted to the comp, losing none other than Gary friggin Ablett for sfa - yes, we were all upset and angry at the time. Then the club buckled down and won the lot in 2011.

Yeah we have a lot of impending retirements but also a lot of untapped potential on the sidelines, of lot of which is still quite young. If we get Clarke with pick 7 then I suspect 2023-25 could be about KPF and KPF. Still need another key back and we need a gun tall forward to replace Hawkins and/or Cameron. Neale isn't enough on his own.

I think hes a gun but miers is in really good form and plays a role that im not sure sam can play.
I think its more likely menegola would play as a marking half forward (rather than a high hff) option who can push up to midfield when needed which would squeeze out rohan as the 3rd marking target..but im guessing.

It’s possible, certainly how Menegola plays a high half forward role differs from Miers. Both use endurance to link up around the ground but Miers is more crumbing at the feet of the marking contest on the wing and up forward while Menegola is contesting.

Equally Menegola can’t play 3rd tall like Rohan does. He hasn’t the speed to get in behind defenses nor chase guys down. He’s have to obviously be used differently.

Miers was great in the back half of the season, not a knock on him and it’s all guess work anyway.

This is why Clark would not be my preference. If he was not a falcon he wouldn’t be most of everyone’s pick in this forum.

Cadman would be my no.1 based on need as much as on talent but he’ll go earlier. Of those likely to be around at 7, Clark is my pick. I think he’s the safest option to play 200 games than the others around that mark.

2020 was his best year, IMO - narrowly missed out on AA in a GF side. With that said, I'd argue that our new gameplan just doesn't suit him. He has an elite tank, but he's not overly quick, doesn't have quick reaction times, and while he plays the wing role really well, he also seems to be crumble under pressure a lot of the time - which is not ideal for a guy who basically needs to cover both sides of the ground at all times.

Our old kick/mark game plan suited him, but given what I saw this year, I think our new play on/risky kick/high pressure game plan is seeing him phased out. Could be wrong and he could bounce back, but I definitely think he's no guarantee and it's gonna be an uphill battle for him to squeeze back into the 22 with all the added talent we're bringing in.
Certainly my opinion is not absolute, I did have him and Miers on the bubble together with Henry (if we sign him). And I don’t disagree with any of what you put in there. Except I still think he was better 2018 but maybe that’s eye of the beholder etc.

I think the hard thing to define is the benefit of Clark over those we have.... and only those that know them up close would know. The number of mids we have brought in... we shoudl really go for Jefferson or Cadman if he was there. If we get Bruhn I think id prefer a different type of mid like Mackenzie or Humpfrey ... but I jist wonder is it like with Selwood. We were stocked with mids when we drafted him too.

In the end I will just trust their judgement. No matter who they pick , the rarity of it means we really cant afford for them to fail or to want be like Jordan Clark. They have to be happy here and willing to be a centre piece

Watching Jyhe Clark tape it’s kind of crazy how similar to Bruhn he is, Oliver Hollands kept grabbing my attention in the Vic Country stuff.
I think Clark is the obvious Selwood replacement but just the name Clark gives me jitters.
Humphrey could be a Danger replacement
Cadman a solid pick but will be gone.

They currently sit at 5-7 in most phantoms but we have effectively Pick 8. Will we miss all three.

Not as keen on those straight after Clark and would probably name Busslinger.
