Would Geelong look at Logue from Freo
I think he’d be a great addition but I think we’ll focus elsewhere. And it would mean having to drop out a mid defender like Kolo. Which I would be in favour of but can’t see the coaches doing that. Part of our improvement this season is playing a small agile defensive group. The tall slow defensive group we had didn’t match modern game so I’d be reluctant to go to far to that.

Apologise if this has already been posted, but read this tonight regarding a few out of contract Cats & new deals

With at least one or two of theses re-signings, it may mean that those on the fringes find it tougher to stay, unless we see a few unexpected retirement or trade requests...

DAD SECURES NEW DEAL FOR CAT

Zach Guthrie’s season of rapid improvement will see him rewarded with the Cats in contract negotiations with his father Andrew, who manages his contract.

Guthrie, 24, had played only 33 games in his first five years at the Cattery but has played 18 games this year and held his spot in a side that couldn’t fit in Brandon Parfitt and Mark O’Connor.

He isn’t a high possession winner but is safe with the ball in hand (76 per cent kicking efficiency) and has locked away his opponent week after week.

The Cats will also secure Isaac Smith, Tom Hawkins, Zach Tuohy and Joel Selwood on one-year deals.

They are hopeful Jacob Hopper might find his way to Geelong but given Richmond is also sniffing around he is yet to choose his trade destination.

Must be on quite favourable deals. Not sure how we have the list spots to make many moves.

Selwood is the surprise there. I reckon sav gets traded and evans and stevens get delisted/rookied. Might be a depth player or two ask for a trade or we might get more retirements if we win the flag.

I wonder how truthful the rumours on Bailey Scott wanting to come to Geelong... By all reports his speech at Roos presentation night didn't seem like he wanted to be traded

I present to you …Beams B&F speech…I wouldn’t take too much stock in what they say in public

That’s the full info regarding Geelong

There's more in the article but it's about Zurhaar re-signing, Tom Mitchell's apparent trade value & players the Hawks may or may not be interested in, potential suitor for McKay (Essendon because they were interested in Curnow...), what's happening at Port Adelaide, JJ to the GC as a FA, the interest inJunior Rioli, GWS moving on their assistant coaches, Josh Schache is reportedly a good VFL player, and all that's happening at North now Clarkson has arrived

I was as sceptical then as I am now.

I don’t understand the concerns of Joel going around again if he wants to.
He’s coming off 28 touches and 2 goals in his last game. He’s averaging 22.2 possies this year (4th best at the club) and 4.3 tackles (5th best at the club).

He may no longer be the player winning b&f and AA but he is far from being the worst player on the list. I think he’s earned the right to go again.

Hopefully, he isn't eating up to much cap room if so.

His leadership behind the scenes would be huge as well.

From a leadership point of view hes so valuable (which is why i would like to retain him in an off field role) but we need to transition the midfield as all of selwood danger blicavs menegola guthrie duncan and smith are over 30 (and even atkins is 27) so i would be concerned about them all retiring at once we need to stagger the retirements over 2-4 years and selwood is the obvious one to retire this year imo.

You also wonder if given the battering his body has taken if he might pull up stumps if we win the flag.

The news of Joel going around again next year will make my walk to the G today so much sweeter. Awesome news!

If we win the flag this year, I'd be happy for him to pass on the captaincy whilst continuing to play. Honestly, I'd be happy to keep him on ice until round 16 and ramp him into finals next year.

Only issue with Selwood going again is if we're not willing to drop him for finals if things turn bad. Even this match Parfitt being dropped shows what level you need to be to be an inside mid in this team.

I think Parfitt vs Atkins vs Selwood is a pretty even bet right now and it's fair enough going for the proven leader especially if Parfitt's still not 100% post covid. But if Parfitt goes up a level and Selwood slows next year it could easily be that Selwood deserves to be the one to miss out. There's no doubt Selwood is happy to miss games during the year to give others opportunity and to manage his body. But is he realistic enough to see he's not in our best 22 in a final if it comes to that? And are we strong enough to make that decision if he thinks he deserves a spot?
