As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

This vendetta against a 21 year old is getting a little sad and even a little weird.

In a year where we've had one player outperform their 2022 selves, it's very strange that you've decided to single out one of our youngest.

There's a list a mile of long of senior players to be disappointed with, but keep targeting the kid if it makes you feel better.

He'll play 200+ games for our club, we've got a good one.

He’s clearly trolling now. Or is special needs. Or both

Parish and Bruhn are both one position players who can only play midfield. Getting Parish could potentially push Bruhn to the VFL. Jhye Clark will fly past Bruhn next year as well
Based on what? The way Bruhn has improved this year in an underwhelming midfield has been impressive, no chance he is dropped to the VFL before O'Connor is.

Vendettas aside, Bruhn is a midfield or bust type and so is Parish. It's not an invalid point

O'Connor can play multiple positions. As can Dangerfield, Guthrie, Holmes, Blicavs and Atkins when needed. Parish/Bruhn cannot so maybe Parish might not be the best fit for the side

Good post…Tanner is going to make people eat their words…he will develop into a very very nice player…

We lack his profile of midfielder. O'Connor can play multiple positions, but he is still typically on the chopping block as we saw last year. If Parish comes in, we would be going with Parish/Bruhn/Blicavs/Guthrie/Atkins with cameos from others and appearances from Dangerfield.
Holmes is an interesting one, I think if we bolsted the midfield and since Smith is retiring he ends up back on the wing full time which is his best position.

While I don’t disagree they are similar types, this shouldn’t be a reason not to recruit a top 20 mid in the league.

For sure, but I think his main point was that this may push Bruhn to the vfl. Which is a better problem to solve than the one i was expecting to next year
Yes agree. My point is if Bruhn gets pushed into the VFL that’s probably a good sign for strengthening the midfield.

There is not much point having versatility if you are only mediocre at best. I would classify O’Connor a solid C grade role player if there ever was one. Parish is an A grade mid… something we currently don’t have.

I think Scott values flexibility and would hate Parish and Bruhn soaking up all the time in the midfield

Can not agree with that at all

Geel have smashed Ess multiple times in recent seasons - 1st qtr blitzes and beautiful to watch

Last years opening game of the season at the MCG - this years MCG game 38 to 0 - this years KP game 7 goals 5 behinds to a single point - and of course in 2020 up the Gabba - the game where for some bizarre reason the Ess players as a total group were laughing when they walked off at h/tIME - what was it 12 goals to 1 - Geelongs game - where was Darcy Parish in all those games - did he fly the flag for the Dons not at all

To be perfectly fair - he has played 1 very good game against us at KP - where he got alot of kicks - but he isnt a good/damaging kick - doesnt hurt you - certainly not an A Grader

Geel over the past 20 years or so have thrashed quite a few teams - even lowly based teams - and you will see players in those teams show a bit of resistance - Parish hasnt displayed that - but you want him in the blue and white hoops

Ok, so what I'm reading here, it's a done deal, Sav goes to Port, weeks after he helped us beat them. Super stuff.

Yes hes going there i think. Will be best 22 there much easier to get games as a key defender for them than us

Lord can't kick to save himself. Surely Duursma would be a wildly better target (that we are no chance of landing)

The main benefit though is that we get to yell "O LORD!" when he kicks it out on the full

Duursma is not leaving with his sister there. Plus sav is ooc port have no obligation to trade us much of value.

We are turning over a midfield entirely over the next 3 years. Theres easily room for bruhn clark and parish as the 3 inside mids with with blitz and guthrie (at their age they cant play inside every week anymore) around that and holmes and knevitt on the wings.

Atkins is still ahead of Bruhn as a mid... Hopefully not for long though.

Fingers crossed Clark is far better than both of them.

Fair viewpoint and I’m not going to debate it. Currently we have a very weak midfield that struggles to win clearances and contested footy and parish is someone who can crack in and win first possession and rack up those contested numbers for us, something we severely lack.

Even if your viewpoint is he isn’t an A grader which is fine, if we get him for nothing as a free agent and he gets 25-30 touches a week and is winning first possession for us, is that not a win?

I agree it’s a bonus and you prefer it, but it’s not going to be the reason an A grader gets knocked back from your club.

With the way footy is played these days I can easily see parish playing on paper as HF and then rolling up around the contest as an extra midfielder even.

Oddly the role of a HF/FP these days is 70% midfield spread and defensive work around the ball, and 30% forward craft working back into space towards goal.

The games direction is almost preferring midfield forward hybrids than traditional small and medium forwards these days.

Players like O Henry are the ones who are at risk of extinction and being out of favor the way the game is heading

Didn’t hinder Selwood career
Theres plenty of mids currently going around who are "just mids" and don't do much else.
Clayton Oliver/Bontempelli/Liberatore/Merrett/LDU/Serong/Neale/Cerra/Brayshaw/Miller the list goes on and on. They are all "just mids". None are like Petracca who can go forward and kick 4, or like Blicavs who can play everywhere, or Daicos who can play midfield or HBF.
