Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

None of the names leaving really either blow you over with talent or have had their days in the sun. Excited to see what Wells/Mackie have planned. You don’t delist/retire that number of players without knowing what you are doing.

I’d say this almost certainly confirms that Martin is on his way to KP. Reckon we’ll see a couple of other mature aged types at least too.

Well we don't anyway.
Essendon, North, St.Kilda I'm not so certain.

So far our retirements/delistings changes our list as follows

2 Key/Tall forwards
1 Tall defender
2 mids
2 midsized forwards
1 wing/half back
1 midsized back

our Trade/Draft profile with my stab on what our list needs looks like

Trade

Smith for 1st round pick if he comes out and nominates us in next couple of weeks - mid

Draft

Martin (throw at the stumps - large upside if he can get body right) - wing/half back

leaves 4 more spots on main list

2 Mids
Tall Forward
Mature Ruck?

3 Rookie spots

Tall Forward
Tall Defender
mid sized player with versatility

I'm still struggling to see how people think Neale is a good long term option... That performance in the prelim was one of the worst I have seen from a player.

Hawkins on one leg would have offered more. The bloke can hardly run as well and you murdered in the rebound after the footy hit him in the face instead of his mitts.....

It is a deep draft maybe we are confident of getting better players at the back end and middle than what we already have. No standouts but some of the mid rangers seem to be close to the quality of top 15 players.
I think the philosophy is that if they think you're not up to it they're not going to keep you around. Wells has said pretty consistently he thinks there are always good players to be found so I don't think draft position is a consideration.

I know some are questioning Duncan likely playing on, but for those who haven't seen the news from Port

Far better contributor to Port than what Mitch has been for us this season, the issue for me beyond his inability to get the pace of the game in an area where you need pace (half back) is his inability to take or receive contact, when his skills were elite you can forgive that, but these days we can’t use him as a sub, at best a first half general and then the Insta sub if no one gets injured and even in that role he doesn’t really have much to offer anymore.

Seems like Scotty was telling the truth when he said the club had some balls in the air.

9 list spots are now open. It looks like more than Smith and Martin might be coming in.

maybe just some complimentary/role players, was hoping to see a box office guy that will move the needle bad. :p

that maybe true, but he was pretty good against port. and dont just single him out, tom stewart and tyson stengle was disgracful as well.

Out
Hawkins
Tuohy
Willis
Murdoch
Jeka

Pretty confident the above group is gone.

Stanley
Rohan
Duncan
Parfitt
Foster

How many of the above do we need to lose?

5 senior and 2 rookies spots open, is that enough?

Interesting offseason coming up.

Just like the selectors, I forgot Mitch Hardie.

The cleanout is on.

7 players delisted including Rohan and Parfitt

Its weird that parfitt got to FS games mark and rohan didnt (i hoped he would get to 100) but its time for both.
Foster and willis are marginal but not surprising as i said earlier today we want at least 3 back end picks in this good pool.
Duncan and Bews VERY lucky to be staying on.

I actually like how ruthless they are these days.

You maybe don’t find Lawson if you don’t make the call on Cooper Whyte which I thought was pretty tough at the time.

Mitch Hardie? WTF?
Even the cats website spells it out.
Hardie excelled in the VFL in 2024, recognised for his outstanding season finishing fourth in the JJ Liston Trophy and earning a spot in the Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year. He was a strong force in the Cats midfield, averaging 29 disposals, six clearances and five tackles per game. He also hit the scoreboard, kicking 14 goals.
Did he want big bucks?

Anyone got Ralph on FoxFooty last night. Missed it but apparently he said we've committed to Jack Henderson if no one else takes him before us.

If you haven't cracked it for a game in 2 years I think the chances of making it are very slim these days. You don't have to be best 22 after 2 years and it might only be the odd game, particularly for a tall player like a SDK, Conway or COS but if you are at no games at all and looking a long way back from selection like a Foster or Willis, turning them over is the right thing to do.

Why would we trade SDK?
YES- on one hand- ?doesn't want us, soft, entitled, pampered...
or
NO- on the other- ?elite young talent, still developing, loyal, more determined to consolidate his spot...

Hey fellas, juat wondering what the go with Emerson Jeka is? I know he was highly touted as a youngster but had some Injury struggles but at his age do you think he's worth picking up? I'd love fremantle to offer him 2 years and see how he goes. Started off well in the VFL as a forward but seems he's playing as a bit of a swingman now?
