Overall I think tonight was pretty pleasing, despite the loss. The goalkicking in the first and second was bad, but at least it was all 2nd and 3rd year players who missed the easy set shots. Rankine's miss was more disappointing to me than Rachele, Pedlar, Thilshorpe and Soligo missing set shots.

That said, the lack of a coherent gameplan in the final quarter was disappointing. It really felt like after Collingwood kicked two quick goals the entire team lost any sense of what to do, everyone who had the ball panicked and we barely hit a target the rest of the game. Losing to one of the better sides in the comp by a point isn't a big deal, but I would have liked to see us take the game on a bit more rather than trying to kill the ball to the boundary constantly for 10+ minutes.

So many times we needed to knock the ball on instead of picking it up, I hope that comes with experience.
That knd of thing in slippery conditions is Coached at every level from age 10 and up.
To get to AFL level you cannot know about that.

I'm amazed that our mob appear to need to be reminded.
It's footy 101.

Soligo has now had 3 sub-par games in a row, he's not at the pace of the game when the pressure is high, he's a step behind everyone around him and it showed up for the second week running in his poor disposal and slow decision making - I think he broke the club smothered record today. He's really sliding into the second year blues quickly. I would have subbed him off too if not for Milera demanding it more.

Speaking of, that last quarter is reason enough alone to tear up Milera's contract. Diabolical.

Michalanney best on for us, the only player to both consistently beat his man all 4 quarters and also not cough the ball up by foot repeatedly.

Having now drawn the gaze of all in the midfield, Dawson now has the next 5-10 weeks to learn how to deal with that attention, and hopefully we don't gut out and flick him off to a flank again, because it's important he breaks through that roadblock.

Soligo was one of our best this week and last. The move of Soligo off and Dawson down back handed the pies the 4points. We all know a midfield of Laird, Sloane, Keays is shit. We needed foot speed and quality in the middle and Nick's took it out of the middle. He reverted to character when we needed him to be bold.

He was poor both weeks, slow decisions and average use despite getting more of the ball than the 4 touch Carlton outing.

Getting 25 touches doesn't mean much if you have no impact with the disposals, and he really hasn't all season.

Collingwood played exactly like the Hawks last week. All 18 player in the Crows half and 12 in the 50meter arc. They then spread with speed in waves to get the ball to their fwdsor run it the full length of the ground

Milera, Tex, Butts our worst. Soligo was fine, had him in our top 5.

Milers, Tex,
Milera was garbage, Walker has started playing like a man who has realised he's never going to be first to the ball again.

A bunch of players were either ok or just drifting, some did as many good things as bad things. It was a real team effort.

Jones goal in the last perfectly exemplified the kind of player he is, can do really good things when he doesn't have to think about anything because the objective and target are right there and it's all over before a conscious though appears, but any time he needs to use his brain for thought or decision making, all his AFL skills vanish in a puff of smoke.

Thilthorpe is still giving off more Brad Moran vibes than is healthy for a young ruckman. More marks this week was good, but that was a pretty weak aerial contest out the back against Moore in the last.

Walker and Sloane have no pace now. I just wish we had them ten years ago now.

Nicks can blame poor accuracy all he likes, it's easy to do as that is one element largely out of his control on game day.

As a head coach it's still your job to do everything possible within your control to get the win. And Nicks failed in that area.

Subbing off Soligo was his decision
Taking Dawson out of the midfield was either his decision or within his control

When other things aren't going right (like goal kicking) you have to be operating at peak efficiency in other areas to compensate. Those decisions further crippled a battling team and that's on Nicks

Not sure what Milera offers the team.

Rachele needs to pull his head in.
That was the one question that I kept on asking. What is Milera contributing to the team. His kicking at time is woeful...well not good. and his ability to get his hands on the ball is not clean. I kept on thinking if I had to remove one player from the field who would it be. Milera was the one who jumped into my head.

Its really a pity because the guy promised so much but since his injury he simply hasnt been the same.

Tonight reinforced we don't have the impact midfield or burst pkayer. Wish they would try Milera (who was awful) or Doedee or Pedlar or FOG more often to get them developed as a pinch hitter. Tonight the Laird, Dawson, Sloane, Rachelle combo in the centre just didn't work in the last. Nicks was devoid of other options

Pardon the intrusion.

A few things, you should've walloped us today, no ifs buts or maybes. Had the game on your terms for most of the game apart from the last qtr.

We were terrible, and have been for the most part since the the loss @ the Gabba, that's not discrediting your team just an observation.

There seems to be a habit of teams capitulating when it matters most against Collingwood, why I don't know.

The umpiring was terrible on both sides of the stick as well. Geez both teams got some howlers as well as some obvious missed frees.

In any case, Adelaide should take some positives out of this loss, I'm sure Nicks will as will the team.

Confident we'll see you in the finals.

Come on mate, watch the game again. That's a bad take.

This is the 3rd game they lost that should absolutely been won.

The set shot kicking was atrocious yet again. It is unbelievable how often we pull behinds from spots that should be goals.

At this level 35-40 meters straight on should be made

I do not think we will make the 8

It is because we still do not have professional level goal kicking skills from far to many players

Good:

We are building a side that when switched on is exciting, fast, high scoring and incredible tough to stop. 9 scoring shots to 2 in the first quarter. We are building a brand of footy that is going to win finals.

Bad:

We couldn't capitalize on the umpiring.
Lachie Murphy - prefer to have McHenry over him and thats saying something.

Ugly:

Walker, TT, Rankine, Rachele and FOG combined for 2.8
Mathew Nicks is a tactical failure.
