Weird. Anyone want to have a go at deciphering this between each coach? Reckon Sloane and/or Nash got a 5 and a donut.

7 Taylor Walker (ADEL)
6 Rory Laird (ADEL)
5 Rory Sloane (ADEL)
5 Conor Nash (HAW)
3 Jai Newcombe (HAW)
2 James Sicily (HAW)
2 Sam Frost (HAW)

I reckon

Nicks
5 Sloane
4 Laird
3 Walker
2 Sicily
1 Frost

Mitchell

5 Nash
4 Walker
3 Newcombe
2 Laird
1 Frost

The coaches votes seemed pretty Hawthorn heavy... Soligo a bit stiff to not get a single vote but everyone listed deserved the votes they got

I also thought Nash was best on followed by Walker and Sloane

Interesting vision.
If going long forwards should have moved closer to boundary and forced it out if necessary.
Soligo could have played keepings off.
Laird takes off leaving Sicily alone. Would have become a loose man able to run the clock down
Dawson was loose.
Dawson made the right call being the loose man.
I'd say there's a bit to work on there.
Van Berlo didnt look to happy.
Yep. You can see soligo has a look around then just drives it forward as though we were still behind.

Not putting it all on him. You’d think we’d be able to manufacture a cheap kick to someone in that scenario. He had Dawson to his left busy directing traffic, and another player. Also looks like Rankine could have worked back into some space and provided an option on the other wing.

Easy to say watching the replay. Of course there’s always a chance the kick gets picked off.

Tex also had a couple of moments he'd want to forget in that last 30 seconds. Couple of one handed efforts on the back flank.

Murray saved us a couple of times there.

Apologies if posted earlier, this is an awesome video highlighting Dawson's leadership in the last minutes of the game, well worth watching.

Adelaide’s decision to appoint Jordan Dawson as skipper has been further validated, with the star midfielder lauded for showing “elite level leadership” during the thrilling final stages of his side’s win over Hawthorn.

‘Passed with flying colours’: Crows’ ‘elite level leadership’ during frantic final seconds revealed
Great footage & show we are in really good hands with our new leader.

I wonder if we studied the footage of our game v Pies last year & Pendlebury.

I do know one thing for sure, the decision to go with Dawson as captain in 2023, was always the correct decision.

Brave move by a very conservative club.

Good: Won ugly. Its what good teams do from time to time. Its a fantastic sign of maturing into a good side with a winning culture. Yes it was ugly but Hawthorn brought it. it was not long ago where we would have leads in a match like this and lose by 30 points. The players kept the belief. My good friend always had a great saying after games like this 'a win is a win is a win'. No need to over think it.

Bad: I didn't really think the umpiring was that bad yesterday. Couple of lax umpiring moments where we should have received 50s for players taking too long to give the ball back, and when frost was wrestling with Fog after the free to fog and he was pinned under Frost should have been a 50 straight away. The umpire was just spectating and should have moved the game on.

Ugly: The game. But a win and I will bank it.

Wanted to come on and say that I was 100% wrong about Sloane.

I was very adamant that there was no place for him in the team, that he was too old, too slow and that he was cooked before the knee injury.

Wow has he shown me. His last quarter Vs Port and his game against Carlton were great.
Today he was the difference between winning and losing. Just refused to give up. It looked like he was our only midfielder in the last 5 minutes. Outstanding courage and desire to win.
Long may it stay that way.
I was completly in the same mindset honestly, but its a good thing to be wrong about

What about the throw by Jiaf in their attacking 50m not seen by the umpire who was standing 5m away which lead to a Hawks goal?

Motlop is the eighth player in the past five rounds to be suspended for a sling/dump tackle. GWS midfielder Callan Ward was also cited this weekend for a sling following bans to Taylor Adams, Zach Merrett, Will Day, Gary Rohan, Ryan Burton and Nathan Broad.

Blues teammate Lewis Young was also cited for a strike on Saint Mason Wood, but he can accept a $2000 fine with an early plea.

Adelaide's Darcy Fogarty and Hawthorn's James Sicily were both fined for wrestling during the match in Launceston on Sunday afternoon.

Yes, he was well out of bounds, the ball however wasnt.
With the boundary ump standing 5 metres away in the perfect position looking along the line. It's almost an optical illusion - rankin's feet are out of bounds and therefore it looks like the ball is too, but that ump was perfectly placed and watching with eagle eyes.

I really hope it was out of bounds just to screw the Hawks over for once with a dodgy free going our way.

what do you expect Darcy to do when you have a flog on top dry humping you

Whole post was food for thought :thumbsu:, for me. I wasn't going to watch the replay, but I think after your post I will.
I noticed one of their blokes breaking the HB line and rebounding strongly. Was that Impey?

1) There's a possibility Murphy and Keays had other roles to play; we don't know.
if neither Murphy nor Keays spotted Impey's influence, isn't it up to Nicks to point that out and get one of them (hard-running Keays would be my pick) to clamp down on him?
2) I agree that they are not, but have no clue what they're thinking.
My criticism of Keays (apart from no-R-foot) is that he's very "busy", even when he doesn't need to be. I've seen signs over the last 2-maybe-3 weeks that he's finally learning to give off when he's not in a great position and not try to snap superstar goals from poor positions eg his handball to Jones early in the Carlton game (resulted in Rankine goal), his handball to Rankine late in the last.
Rankine was deeper in the pocket but much more likely to kick the freak goal, which he did.

With 1) I think it's more the case that it's very difficult (to borderline impossible with a well coached side) to shut down a half back ball supply. More, it's about limiting influence then taking them out. That means players like Keays/Murphy preventing them from running and defensive structures forcing either short kicks, or slow kicks to a contest.

Our record against Saad is an anomaly, and probably just as much that Carlton are a very poorly coached side as it is Keays has a field day against them.
