So when kids get drafted are the recruiters just going on gut feel as they've never played an AFL game?

No but when you are 2 and zip beat the premiership fav then the hawks at the G, it's not really to wise to mess with the winning formula with players who either have no form or even played afl, wouldn't you agree

I absolutely 100% disagree!

If you can improve your team you do it and Doedee is a far superior footballer to Kelly.

And Doedee might be but he has far from proving he is which can be put down to injury but you need to prove yourself before anything if you want a crack at the big time

No gold passes

With regard our slow start, our defence was confused even before the game started. Hartigan, Talia and co were swapping who was on who right up to the first bounce, and making last second switches. Surely it was no great surprise to see Roughead, Rioli, Puopolo and Breust down there? They looked very disorganised and not really switched on.

Yep it's meant to be the goal square length basically but if you watched the Swans last night they got penalised for something very similar. I had no issues with Talia being penalised the week prior as it was clearly longer than the square when he rushed it but last night the Swans got ripped big time and umps therefore should have done the same today if they are going to seriously enforce a 'standard.' I'm not one who usually likes to lay blame at umps for matches the way some do as while they do stuff up they do also do a pretty good much of the time in what is a fast and furious game which I think is forgotten a lot. Today on the other hand I felt like we were playing them a lot more than other occasions, even worse than the bulldogs match from last year which I also attended. Still home side always nearly gets the benefit, despite what many say here I think Adelaide isn't totally robbed at home that often.

Someone crunched the numbers. Definite home bias. West coast big beneficiaries

Breust destroyed Kelly in the first, you would have rather seen Lever on him , Pyke showed faith in picking Kelly doubt he will do it this week

I was driving home this afternoon and only caught the second half on the radio. At that stage they were up by about 2 goals, and it was free kick Hawthorn in their F50, point – about 3 times in 5 minutes. Then we went on a run of goals started by Eddie, and when Mackay kicked his first goal, and BT said something like “I didn’t even realise he was playing.”

Then there was the Poppy free kick the commentators were going nuts about how bad it was, and the volume of the boos made me think we were playing at home.

When a Hawks player kicked it to Lynch after a point and he missed it from about 25 out from directly in front it was crushing, as the resultant coast to coast goal cut our lead to 5 when it should have been 17.

Had to laugh at one point when Hartigan kicked it OOTF from a kick in, and then Hendo took the free and kicked it OOTF.

Relieved we got the win, but geez we did it hard.

Yeah we can't afford both Hartigan and Kelly in the same side, bothe too volatile by foot. This is why I'd also be keeping Hamptom in the side as small forwards trouble us at times and I think he could play a good solid lock down roll as he has the pace to go with nearly anyone.

Had the Crows at 40+ and felt if Lynch had goaled at that stage the floodgates would open. It was soul destroying but as you pointed out made even worse by Hawthorn kicking a goal immediately after

Sadly, Kelly was all at sea out there.

I thought on the other hand Brodie Smith was far more accountable as a small defender than we normally require of him and performed well.

I was on the same bet, I think it was a good call, just didn't work out

Kelly will be replaced by Lever who do you want to bring Doedee in for

There is no way we should have Talia, Hartigan, Lever and Otten all in defence...only one of those 4 has decent leg speed. We would be killed at ground level.

Depending who we are playing but as proven today it's handy when you have a forward and backline where a player like otten can play tall in both areas

Best defence would be a combination of laird brown smith otten talia harto and Lever throw in Hampton giving us 8 to choose from with otten maybe on the field or on the bench or going forward

I would even consider benching harto sometimes when he has his brain fades which he does have

Agree to disagree.

If either Lever or Otten had Hartigan's athleticism you could almost make a case for it but astute opposition would cut us to pieces.

Some of Hartos defence comes completely unstuck when he has a brain fade or just butchers his disposal, if he could get that out of his game he would be a superstar but I think it's there to stay

So otten or Lever could be more efffective as they make far less mistakes

And we know what happens when you make a mistake in defence

But harto is effective and easily holds his spot but a combination could be used

I wouldn't be holding my breath on Doedee, replacing anyone.
Didn't even play a JLT game. He'll have to play very well in at least 6-8 SANFL games first. May not even debut this season.
