The bad is missing something...do you need a hint?

What, that we should drop Murphy :p

I mean you could talk about 2.5 in the last quarter, Brisbane being able to shut down our offensive game for a while in the third, Tex and Laird missing key shots in the last, and Laird having a pretty middling game all up, but these all pale to the major problem we're facing in these games, which is we're conceding way too much to win them.

I was thinking moreso that blonde headed veteran....

Schoenberg is teetering ....his handling of the ball was much more assured this week ....and he actually used his pace as a weapon, with his kicking quite penetrating

He needs to build upon this game

He's got better each game since he's been back in the side.

Probably benefiting from having Crouch feed him/around him instead of Sloane and Keays.

Nah, Max is the man for those types now and into the future...back him in.
I can't agree ....in any other position, you have to make a swap

Hell, remember the outcry when we left Massie on Franklin for a whole Final .....the same would occur if Michaelanney was left on Cameron ....IF Cameron did the same thing again

It really didn’t though. Our ball movement fell away a bit during the 2nd and into the 3rd, but recovered towards end of the 3rd and rest of the game from there. Our ball movement is great to watch this year and is rewarded with being the highest scoring team in the comp.
Even in the fourth quarter our delivery to the forward 50 was average.
Our ball movement over the season has generally been great. Yesterday wasn’t one of those times apart from a few glimpses.

I'd suggest Schoenbergs self confidence got a bashing this year .....he's had two good games to start rebuilding the confidence .....we saw what happens once you're confident, with Jones this year ....you "can" go to another level

I mentioned him in meh, because he fit there this week. We're at the end of his career, regardless if us/Sloane are willing to accept it or not.

This isn’t the disappointing performance - it’s the best performance anyone has put up all year against the Lions at the Gabba. The disappointment, as it feels like it’s always been, is the dross we’ve served up against our mid-table competitors (GWS X2, ESS, WB, GC away) that leaves us needing to try to pull of these miracle wins against the best teams in the comp with vastly more experience.
Insightful post :thumbsupv1:.
Looking back, the Crows seem to save their best performances for the close losses to Top-4 sides. Not only that, in several of those mid-table competitors' games the Crows get done after establishing a good lead. That has to be a result of mental relaxation.

To me, their inconsistency is a result of what's happening between the players' ears. It's the difference between "We've got this" (when 5 goals up) and "We're going to have to work extra hard to win this" vs Collingwood/Melbourne/Brisbane.
Very hard to beat at home, weak as piss vs. mediocre sides away.
The Club/Nicks and his Assistants have got to find ways to settle the boys (a routine away, post-flight freshening up etc) and get them winning AWAY, as well as bringing their A-game to those mid-table competitors.

The ball was coming in with no pressure for 25 mins to open forward line 1 on 1, wouldn’t have mattered if peak Dylan Grimes was on him

Max did well to keep him to less than 6 goals

What if Butts and or Keane go down. Then it's Himmelberg(unless we trade him) and Borlase as our backs. We should be able to trade in a key back with what we get for outgoing players. Use our top 10 pick on a mid. McAdam hasn't resigned so he may be off to WA so McAdam for Cox or Barass and an exchange of later picks could be advantageous for both clubs. We will get nothing for Crouch and Doedee if they leave as expected as they are free agents. If the club thinks we are a top 6 chance next year they will chase a key back. I wouldn't rule out using our future first this offseason on a mid or key back.
I would prefer to keep our top draft capital for midfielders... not Barass who is likely going to be a Swan or Cox who is under contract. Sure target some cheep experienced depth like Melican type.

Think we are better off keeping McAdam & Crouch too. Doedee I'm not fussed either way.

On an opponent that suited Borlase's skillset and physical capabilities (Casboult) not many key forwards of Casboult's ilk these days..
Ok, ok so Borlase is a dud that should only get picked when the cupboard is bear.

You’ve totally debunked my argument, we’ll just forget the other 3.

Happy with one of our 2nd rounders ( the later one ) to be used but nothing more on a trade for a key back

The 1st draft pick we just gotta take the best player regardless of position given it’s not a mids draft ( we still might get a good mid but can’t force it )

I have to disagree, we were getting plenty of marks inside 50 last night from precise kicking. It’s the finishing from set shots that hurt.

Whats wrong with what he said?..

I can guarantee you they wouldve been slapping each other on the backs after that game..

”good effort fella’s.. we almost got there!.. geez, we’ve pushed the teams in the top 4 this year.. good signs”

thats fxxkn BS.. we shouldve won that game and we should be absolutely filthy about it.

if you are happy about that game then its you that are the problem as its clear you accept that mediocrity.

6 years without a finals showing. Thats poor.

whats worse is its some of our senior players that are consistently letting us down.. yet this club shows ZERO signs of punishing these precious little bastards.. instead it fxxkn rewards them.

How can you guarantee this? Were you there to see it happen?

I think this loss (following on from too many similar losses) will hurt the players, the team and the coaching staff. They all work hard to WIN and to ultimately WIN THE PREMIERSHIP. You can't do that from 9th! They will hurt from this and not be remotely as satisfied as you suggest. There is still work to do and there will be no self adulation whatsoever for "near enough".

Curtin again good in the WAFL League yesterday 20+ disposals 2 weeks in a row.

Pretty sure blokes like tex wouldn’t have been like that lost game

Even a guy like hinge who declared pre season that it’s time to play finals and puts his body on line every week and was superb to bounce back from that incident would have been fuming

They gotta go away and work on things in pre season that help nail those types of games next year , execution , fitness , winning the big moments etc etc

I disagree with the thrust of this argument.

If they were truly hurting then it lasts less than a week.

Because if it really hurt we would have won at least 1 of those close ones.

Hurting is what you tell yourself as you do laps

Competitors soak it in until it aches

Blighty wouldnt put up with this current shite.

sloane wouldve been dumped to the sanfl months ago and told at years end to pack his bags.

Blight was never scared to move on club champions/veterans/fan favourites.
This!
+
Blight wanted to win. He didn't care who he pissed off
Both spot on, above.
Blight taking the Crows from 12th (8W-14L, 96%, ordinary) to consecutive Flags was damn-near miraculous. He cleaned out the closet and brought out the best in the talented kids he had.
Imagine what Blight would have done this year with Rankine, Rachele, Pedlar, Fog, Michalanney, Soligo, Worrell, Thilthorpe, Hinge, McAdam etc. Sloane would be gone.

ALSO, Nicks should be asking Blighty (or even Bicks) what they did to set up a routine for the players that brought out their best playing AWAY.
To win their '98 Flag their LAST 5 GAMES were away --- went to Perth in Round 22, then belted by Melbourne (away), then beat Sydney (away), thrashed the Bulldogs (away) then came back hard to beat NM (MCG, GF) who had won 11 straight, by kicking 11.12 to 2.7 in the 2nd half.
By contrast, the 2023 Crows wilt when they travel.
