Nicks should send a message and drop Sloane just before his 250th. Would put the group on notice. Instead he'll play him and GWS's mids will tear us a new a-hole like they always do.
Not only will he play him, he'll start him in the midfield and he'll stick him on the speediest of the speedy bois GWS have to offer.

Which under 50 game youngsters will they blame this loss.

the loss of that game rests directly on the shoulders of RORY SLOANE.

about 4 to 5 of his **** ups and snail paced movements resulted directly in Essendon goals.

then, when he didn't even get the ball, there was his opponent running off him and creating goal opportunities for the bombers.

that was a “Curtly Hampton’s last game” type performance..

he should be forced to front up to the media on Monday and announce his retirement.

but hey presto.. its his 250th next week!..

he’s a lock.

what a shitful club.

Good:

I thought ROB was really good.

Despite the lack of pressure on Essendon’s ball movement I thought the Murray/Worrell key defence combination stood up reasonably well. Murray was beaten early but recovered, and I don’t think we got exposed by the second and third tall as much as I thought we would.

Hinge was good.

Pedlar very good I thought.

Dawson of course good again, would be brilliant to have two of him.

Bad:

I think that was Max’s first bad game, hopefully doesn’t kill his confidence.

Thilthorpe and Fogarty struggled a little bit, need to get those two more opportunities but it’s an interesting question of how to do that with Tex playing so well.

Ugly:

I thought Laird was poor, needed him to stand up in the first half and he was nowhere.

No good away again, I’m willing to be patient with this issue but concerned it may start to become a genuine confidence killer.

Coaches love their battlers. See Damian Hardwick, Luke Beveridge, Nathan Buckley, Ross Lyon etc etc.

So Nicks isn’t alone in that sense - it is difficult to overlook the ones who train well, try hard, give it their all.

But this is infuriating. If Matthew wants to have some sort of opportunity to continue coaching for the long term then it’s now time, enough is enough. Thank you Ned and Lachie, but time to move on. Thank you Rory (Sloane). But if you want to play on, it won’t be in the midfield. Ben will stay due his endurance, overall work ethic and the fact that he does contribute, but he too needs to be transitioned out of the midfield.

If he cannot make the basic (and obvious calls) then time to go. There would be absolutely no shortage of candidates willing to take on your (AFC’s) list.

No good, lots of bad.

Milera. Reverted to type. Had a couple goodish games there, but he remains a nope for me. Very tradeable.
Murphy, Ned - same for both. Good when things are good, pretty much always among our worst when things are bad.
Sholl - not up to this level.
Tillthorpe - got pushed around and seemed always to be under the ball at every marking contest
Sloane. This is the end.

Our "best"? Dunno. Laird? Chayce? Dawson?

The Good:

Dawson – very good 2nd half.
Hinge – apart from those 2 poor kicks in the 3rd. Has to be tried in the midfield. Tough, aggressive, skillful.
McHenry – Good game. Imagine if a few of his better skilled teammates had his aggression and courage. I don’t believe he’s AFL standard but you have to give the kid credit.
Laird

The Bad:

Victorian umpiring – We just have to accept that when we play in Victoria we get absolutely slaughtered by the umpires. It’s not just the ones they get it’s the blatant free kicks that they miss for us especially at crucial moments in the game. The Dawson blatant 50 in the 3rd and the O’Brien block in the 4th. National competition my ass.
Nicks – I’ve always given him the benefit of the doubt given the horrendous list he was handed. But he’s been there 5 years now. He’s just not a very good coach.
Murphy – Typical Murphy nothing game.
Sloane – Just retire – NOW. Embarrassing.
Soligo. I had high expectations at the start of the year but - hmmmm. Given his age you have to give him some leeway and give him a pass for the season.
Young midfielders – they don’t exist.

The Soft:

Milera – zero intensity at the man.
Sholl – Would get out bodied in the under 14’s.
Rachelle – He’s only young but I hate to call this kid out but he really doesn’t like hitting the body/contest. That play in the 3rd was cringeable. Will he ever be tough enough to be considered a genuine full time midfielder?
**** me - I stopped reading when I saw you had Hinge and McHenry in the good. Dawson was just average too

Would love

Do you know how many center bounces Pedlar attended?

One of the biggest concerns for me was watching TT.

He looked worse than Himm out there today - running under every marking contest.

I’m a huge fan of his but that was shocking viewing.

Fog was uncompetitive too. Needs a massive rocket.
Yeah, lets blame our tall forwards!..

its their fault some of the useless flogs up the field couldn't hit the side of a barn from 5 metres away..

swear Laird was trying to see if he could hit the roof at one point.

I disagree with the lesson you're taking from this.

The acid should be on the younger players - why didn't any of them stand up and take control of the game? Why do their efforts consistently have little impact on the results of games?

Sure we lost the game because the senior players s**t the bed, but the most important question is why is that still the case? We should be well past that by now.
Fair point here.

Pedlar had a stint where he was pivotal in two Centre Breaks.

Rachele needs a game where he takes control of the midfield.

If we play these guys in the middle more they may lift.

McHenry Good? Wowie.

This is the price of stuffing up most first round picks. You're left with

33 yo sloane in the midfield (move him to a wing or drop him)
29 yo rookie pick Laird carrying the contested load in the midfield
Dawson playing midfield and defence at the same time
Bunch of kids who haven't progressed enough or aren't talented enough to play midfield
McHenry around the ball turning everything over
Murphy playing a forward who doesnt kick goals or get the pill
Hinge+Milera hitting Essendon players lace out
Making non KPD defenders play KPD (Worrell, Max)

We don't have the ceiling to win premierships unless we do miracles in trade week
