Worst take if the day.

Except for the Smith take... He's cooked
Watch him Hippy… watch what he does 9 times out of 10 when he has the ball.. watch what he actually does with it.

Watch him closely for long enough and you realise that 90% of lairds possessions dont land any punches on the opposition.

He gets a lot of the ball but he, more often than not, doesnt use it to his team mates advantage. He does a hell of a lot of “kicking and hoping”.. does a hell of a lot of hand balling his team mates into pressure.. and does a hell of a lot of turning it straight over to the opposition or dumping it high to his forward line allowing opposition defences an eternity to get to the contests.

His skills and decision making are sanfl standard levels.

The Good:

-Keane and Michelanney :hearts:
-Rankine finally getting midifeld time :hearts:
-Berry's last qaurter, think we still have a player there
-Jones second half
-Cook and Nank, DO NOT drop them Nicks you clown.
-Soligo MUST be a permanent midfielder from now on.
-Tex benefitting from some free flowing quick play
-Rachelle's first half
-Keays loves playing Carlolton
-Dawsons second half

The Bad:

-Vic media already claiming Carlolton were better and just unlucky with injuries :drunk:
-ROB, we badly need to find an actual decent ruckmen
-Butts, we need Murray fit again ASAP
-McHenry, terrible footballer.... Cannot believe we wasted a first round pick on this bloke.
-Rachele's second half
-Dawsons first half (yes know he was tagging Cripps)
-Jones first half

But that's been his whole career.... He's never been that player.. he's been the inside player or accumulator . Even when he played at half back most of his disposals weren't that great. He just got alot of it

No he hasn’t, those stats are just symbolic of the shambles our forward line has been. He’s been well below the form he showed last year and yesterday.

I disagree - thats a tough stance.

His positive stats showing that he has been our most productive are just symbolic of the shambles of our forward line, but at the same time your expectations are that he should be performing as well as last year (when we weren't a shambles).

I think he has performed well considering the circumstances.

But that wasn’t the point of the my post anyway. The flog has been absent whilst we’ve been winless and his return after a win was to start getting stuck into posters. He’s a muppet.

Thats fair. A fair few are happy to dish it out, but seem to disappear altogether when questioned.

What's this got to do with your attempt at mind reading?

Laird was alright against Carlton but I think the team is likely ready to move past him in the near future. By all means call for him to be dropped if you want. But trying to say he doesn't care about winning or whatever is just ridiculous.

He’s not a key forward reliant on delivery. He’s up and down the ground, he’s 5 disposals down a game. He went missing after half time against Gold Coast. Invisible against Geelong. Played well against Freo and was average against Melbourne.

Great win.

What shits me and concerns me in equal measure though is that the coaching group seemed to have learned nothing from last year in teams of what a successful team dynamic looks like.

It shouldn't take us 4 games to work out that an older, dour midfield with no creativity, pace, or dynamism is NOT what will deliver success. We learned this exact lesson last year!

That we didn't start round 1 this year with the exact midfield balance and mindset that we went into today's game with still beggars belief.

Neither were Rachele, Pedlar or Rankine in those first 4 games and he performed better than all 4 of them.

Not to mention FOG who I think wants to be a small half forward.

Any more Berrlievers?

(OK... I promise I'll stop trying to make that a thing)

And he can kick! Now threading match-winning, clutch goals on a weekly basis. I never should have doubted you in that regard, Bezza

No way has he been better than Rankine, I’d have Rachelle ahead of him and Pedlar, cmon, nose broken in the first and he’s been poor, playing only another game and half, if that’s your benchmark then yeah you might have a point.

People aren’t really thinking laird is actually unhappy about the win are they?
Obviously he’s either obscured, can’t see properly, buggered or just in another world.
Or he's been at enough Crows games to know there was too much time on the clock to get excited.

He's a massive introvert, undemonstrative. Displays very little outward passion or emotion. Has never been in our leadership group has he? Despite it being about 15 players deep.

Quietly goes about his business.

Anyone read Herman comics?
"I nearly appeared on a TV game show once but got rejected. They said that when they read out all the prizes I could win I didn't look excited enough."

He needs to do more. I can't imagine many clubs playing him when he has as little impact as he does, whether that's as a sub, or the guy being subbed out every time he plays. Although Fogarty has been s**t as well so you could probably drop either or both. But we know Fogarty can play, he just hasn't been any good for a long time.

I think Fogarty has actually looked better as a mid that drifts to the wing and presents as a target for the defenders. It's pretty much the only times he's touched the ball in the last few weeks as well. He's built like a good inside mid. While he's not scoring or marking anything inside 50 why not let him rotate and try and turn him into a player that can rotate positions, it would probably help the forward line have a different look as well if he's in and out of the 50.
He and Tex are the same type. More a traditional CHF who can operate between the arcs.

As you say, Fog is good up the ground. And the goal he set up was smart Footy.

Vintage Tex yesterday. Was a joy to watch

The win was on the back of our young mids though right...? Right?
Without Soligo in the middle we don’t win that game so yeah in a way.

Says a lot he’s our best mid and we are only now giving him the midfield game time he deserves.

I’ve been calling him to be playing midfield from the get go, wasted on the wing.

That’s 3 in a row against Carlton - and 2 of them we went in to the game as massive underdogs!

Carlton also lost to us in 2020 - I think they’ve only beaten us 3 times since 2014!

There aren’t many sides that we’ve dominated in recent years but yeah we know how to knock off Carlton consistently.

Also, how good is it to get a close win for once - and a close away win!

Would that be our first win in Victoria since we beat the Bulldogs in Ballarat in 2022, and our first win at Marvel since our ‘home’ win there against Hawthorn in 2021?
