Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Isn't the 'damaging mid/fwd hybrid' meant to be Bailey Humphrey? And it appears that he's someone who is a reasonable possibility of being available at our pick?
I don't believe many put him in the class of Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Sheezel and Tsatas.

As for why West Coast might entertain trading pick 2 despite that apparent gulf in class, the answer is seeing what Luke Jackson told Melbourne today and what Taranto, Bruhn and Hopper have told GWS in the last week. If they can get a deal that allows them to take the best West Australian talent in the draft as well as something else good and valuable on top, they would be a good chance of prioritising that ahead of an elite Victorian who might ask to leave in a couple of years.

HFC have 6, 24, 49, 61, 78.
It's not a great hand...really need another pick between 6 and 24 either to hit the draft or trade for an established player.

Come away with
Pick 6
Pick 18ish / trade for est player ( or use 24)
Pick 24
Pick 49

Rookie Lawrence
FA Amon
FA who knows maybe a Stocker?

Assumes no compo for Gunners

Out
T Mitchell
Gunners as a FA

It's not a bad haul - 2/3 x top 24 players or 2 x top 24 and 1x established player. Plus 1 or 2 FAs one of which we know is quality. Best result is the volume we are bringing in. Gives us the best chance to find players.

Mitchell a loss and Gunners we have barely had for 2 seasons.

It all comes down to filling a need for WCE.

They will know we wont give up DGB.....They have earmarked Player B & C as the trade period goes on.

Clarko gifted Sam Mitchell to Adam Simpson for a packet of Samboy chips.

Sam Mitchell helped them win a flag..........they struggled after he left.

They will want to repay the faith in some small way.

This trade will get done very late.....It wont be DGB.
The only way I see this happening is if they have a WA kid they are more or less certain will be there pick 6 but not at their 2nd. Then it's whatever they can get to slide down 4 it may well be Brockman is a ready made replacement for Rioli and they see that as valuable enough. They will inquired about DGB but should know we will want much more coming back the other way. Interesting times

If West Coast want Jackson you can kiss pick 2 goodbye. They will only have eyes for Jackson and will either need to split it if the AFL don't grant them permission to forego their first pick this year or use it in a trade for Jackson should the AFL let them use it for trade this year. Being that West Coast would likely finish below Freo next year also even with Jackson you could imagine they are in the box seat for him. Unless Brayshaw or Serong are homesick and want to go to the Demons I don't envisage Freo have the upper hand in those talks. At this rate I would be hoping for another pick in the first 25-30 for Mitchell and a sneaky wantaway midfielder from elsewhere that we could snag for a future second or something similar. At this rate I think your hopes for pick 2 were already fanciful at best and are now pretty much dead in the water.

This is where I've been on acquiring pick 2 for a while now. It's McKenzie's job to be leaving no stone unturned and these are the types of moves where list manager make their money. Definitely look at what it would take to get pick 2 but there also has to be point where you walk away. FWIW I actually want Sheezel over Tstas but I'd be stoked with either because the reality is we need both.

Curiously asking what would everyone be prepared to offer for pick 2?*

*I'm talking your final offer
I want to make it very clear that I love DGB, I’m sure he loves the HFC and I really don’t want to lose him, but…

I am absolutely all in on getting pick 2 from the eagles, because we have the worst midfield in the comp that desperately needs some pace and top end class and we have enough defenders to mix and match into roles for the next 5 years - plus McCabe on the horizon next year.

Pick 6 and DGB for Pick 2.

Then send the second round pick we get for Tom to Freo for Logue.

Tsatas, Logue, Amon and pick 24 would be a very handy summer, IMO.

Would you be thinking of Logue as a forward? Or down back?

You put Tsatsas and Amon along with our list of Ward, CJ, Bramble etc and that is some serious speed starting to happen.
Imagine what Mitchell Lewis and Breust could actually do with a midfield winning clearances.

Gee I'm not even sold on DGB and feel that's a fair whack on him. Only a four pick upgrade.

You wouldn't expect 26 back from Eagles to? I would.

I would be doing all the work on Logue very early because I wouldn't entertain the DGB/6 for pick 2 without that replacement guarantee.

Logue is not a good player, would be an acquisition for the sake of an acquisition for mine. Just a name to chuck in for the sake of having another senior player brought in. Giving up even a second rounder for him would be unconscionable.

If we can get Logue in for a 3rd/4th then that would be decent depth. He’s not a world beater but he’s a good size and relatively athletic. Would be a good backup/competition for Kosi.

Consider at Freo they’re playing him as a first tall forward at times and he’s got no chance

Logue is bog average forward.

He has 200 games ahead of him as a reliable key defender hard to beat one-on-one but. Freo are just deep there with Pearce and Cox.

Logue will have almost more suitors than anyone this trade period. He's going to get Freo comfortably a pick in the early-mid 20s.

SEN reporting Power are concerned Mitch Georgiades wants out. I’d make him number 1 priority if I were in charge at the hawks

You have to offer up something big to get Pick 2.

Completely balanced trades go out the window when you’re trying to get into the top 3 picks.

I’d be looking for the #2 upgrade. I don’t think I’d do it straight #6 and DGB without something coming back in return.

Something like 6, DGB, Brockman, 49.
Netting us 2, 26, 38 from the Eagles.

And then with hopefully a pick in the 20s coming back for Mitchell, I’d be looking consolidate up into the 10-20 range for another crack in the first round.

If anything the eagles interest in Luke Jackson helps us here, as the eagles would be more inclined to trade down to pick 6.

As pick 6 still beats anything the dockers can offer & the eagles pick up some extra compensation from us to go along with Jackson.

Phillipou and DGB for pick 2. Thank god some of you aren’t doing our trading!! Knowing our luck we would draft Wardlaw who keeps pinging his hamstrings meanwhile Phillipou becomes the next Bont and best player in this draft class and DGB develops into one of the best key defenders in the league as I expect he will.

I've decided I'm not on board with trading DGB to acquire pick 2 from West Coast.

It goes against my pre-season argument that list management makes more sense when you factor in 2 players over 1.

Does anybody remember the North poster saying he wouldn't give up Tarryn Thomas for Jack Scrimshaw and Dylan Moore?

Are we comfortable giving up Denver Grainger Barrass and (hypothetically) Bailey Humphrey for Elijah Tsatas?

Does one singular elite midfielder trump an elite interceptor and mid/fwd bull?
The answer to that question is yes. The club believes so. If the club views DGB as a 3rd tall long term than he is surplus to our needs as that's 1 area we are stacked in with players who could play that role. The club is investing in Jeka and Blanck to be the pillars back there with Frost and Sicily as 3rd talls. We're does that leave DGB. There's a method to the madness you need to look deeper.
