Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

So we gift Gunston with a nothing trade to help Brisbane be gifted a free agency compo pick to help them facilitate the big Christmas present in Will Ashcroft?

Name our minimum terms for a trade, whatever the club decides that it as we clearly don’t all agree in here, or they can have him as a free agent. It’s still there choice.

So they can just as easily turn around and say even if we take him as a free agent you will lose him for literally nothing.

Whatever token pick they give us is technically more than we would get if he were to leave as a free agent. It just isn’t going to net us anything significant

Absolutely. He can play. Not suggesting he'll be a star, but would be solid mid depth for us.
I’ve seen him win centre clearances.

Almost unheard of at Hawthorn. Get him in. 😂

You are asking Brisbane the question if a second round pick this year (compo) is worth more to then than next year.

If you are competing for a flag you should pay overs not under. We always did.

Minimum terms.

Two first rounders.
Free tickets to all our players to the opening ceremony of the Brisbane Olympics.
Free tickets, for life, for any Hawthorn player to ride the Ferris wheel in Southbank.
The 2001 premiership cup.
Leigh Matthews has to wear a Hawthorn tie to all directors meetings while on the Brisbane board.
A lifetime ban from the Brisbane Lions academy on any child with the surname Hodge.
Birchall back to us as a water carrier.
However many Bertie Beetle showbags were left over from the Ekka.

Let's do this!!!!

Okay are you willing to stand in the way of a club legend getting where he wants over this when they say sorry but Dunkley and Ashcroft are a bigger priority for us?

Not the same comparison obviously but Josh Kennedy was too inconsistent to get a spot on our list once upon a time
Poor comparison. Everyone at hawthorn knew Kennedy could play but had a long list of guns in front of him. We offered him a one year contract extension, but Sydney offered him 3 and more opportunity. We need to build a strong midfield to compete with the best, Narkle is just wasting our time ..

Kennedy himself has stated he was overweight and not putting in at the Hawks and was told he had to displace Sewell in the side. You're right that it wasn't about consistency - more desire and work rate, things that Sewell never lacked.

Pick 76?

Do I feel good about the way Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis played out? It’s a tough one. Are we now happy we the the club rolling over and always taking the raw end of the deals like post 3peat era? I think the Brian Lake trade is one to look at and compare with a club looking to top up and get that elusive flag.

They need that compo pick this year. Helping another club get Ashcroft and Dunkley..

Geez what some of us would give up to get our hands on Ashcroft, they should be paying through the nose for what they will end up with this year!

Lake was contracted though, Gunston wont be which is the difference. While I agree they wont be wanting the McStay compo to be watered down or washed away completely, it still doesnt mean they will be giving Hawks anything of note here. It at best will be just to tick the box to get their compo and move on.

Hawthorn did well in the Smith compensation but as spoken about here over and over Amon coming in hurts it and therefore maybe we look at it as Gunston for Amon instead of hey we are getting Amon free but we should get something for Gunston

(Free Agent) Karl Amon
Gunston --> (Brisbane) 2023 Third Round Selection
Tom Mitchell + Pick 24 --> (Collingwood) Pick 16 + Caleb Poulter
2023 Third Round Selection [via Hawthorn] + 2023 Fourth Round Selection --> (Fremantle) Lloyd Meek + 2023 Fourth Round Selection

Bring in Amon, Meek, Poulter.
Take 6, 16 and 49 to the draft.
Pick up Fergus Greene as a rookie for cheap forward depth.
Move some of our talented half-backs to the midfield to cover the loss of Tom.

I can't see De Goey leaving - he is a free agent right?

Pies will want to keep him - if they are getting mcstay as a free agent, they won't get much or anything in compensation for de goey.

So pies would want a trade but suitors like st kilda won't entertain a trade when they can get him as a free agent?

I'm resigned to the belief that we'll get nothing, or next to nothing, for Gunston.
Also, I'm confident that we'll get nothing better than pick 40 or so for T. Mitchell.
I think I'm being realistic... that way I don't get disappointed when it actually happens.

I wonder what other salary dumps the suns are interested in doing. If they do wanna clear $2 million from the Bowes is not gonna cut it.

Other names linked to the exit door are Burgess, Corbett and Fiorini.
