Cyril must have lived one of the most privileged lives in history, idyllic childhood as a star member of the famous Rioli family. Then elite private school on scholership, straight into life as a professional athlete winning 4 premierships and being paid millions

No wonder he took the jeans comment so badly, he must have felt like the king of France being insulted by a lowly peasant

Amazing to prescribe that childhood to an indigenous person. Privileged and spoiled and everything handed to him. Just call him a slur next time you comment and get your racism over with.

The only one bringing race in to it was you then. You should ponder on that.

And if you are interested, ABC radio AFL (Matt Clinch or Ling) announced that Kelli Underwood has said that the leak of the Hawthorn report came from one of the HRC complainants. Not HFC, not the AFL.
No doubt because they knew otherwise the AFL would bury it.

What are you talking about? A huge amount of young kids would absolutely love a leg up into the afl world, being handed a scholarship like that is out of reach of the vast majority of kids.

Or it was Egan's plan from the very beginning. The ABC knew about it before Hawthorn had even got the report, or at best as soon as Hawthorn got it.

Unless Jackson worked around the clock with the interviews. His report was basically done 2 days before the story broke given he had been waiting for the coaches to respond.

Are saying its impossible for any indigenous person to have bad a privileged and spoiled childhood? Isn't that racist of you? I didn't mention the other complainents who no doubt had it much tougher growing up than Cyril, like 99.9 % the population of the world had it much harder than Cyril

What point are you trying to make here?

You’re implying a four time premiership player and norm smith medalist was handed a scholarship instead of actually having earned it.

The post I replied to implied that Cyril was a privileged and spoilt child who had such a privileged upbringing that when faced with comment from peasant described Kennet, threw a tantrum. It implies that those comments, and furthermore his claims of experiencing further racism, is actually just him having been spoilt, privileged, and unreasonable.

While I don’t doubt he had more advantages than some, this is a discussion about his allegations of facing racism and no amount of privilege from being born into a footballing family changes that he is indigenous. The comment never explicitly mentioned race, but the notion that the whole thing wasn’t laced with subtext about it is ridiculous.

It doesn’t matter how many scholarships or money or privilege you give to an indigenous person, the simple fact is that doesn’t lessen the probability or impact of their experiences of racism.

No.

This is a discussion about racism allegations. The comment made implied that whatever occurred wasn’t racism, and that Cyril was just spoilt and privileged. It implies that Cyril didn’t experience racism despite being indigenous because he had more privilege than others in other facets of his life.

I’m saying the notion that any privileged indigenous person is actually more privileged in regards to experiencing racism is not correct. The entire comment was bashing Cyril as being unreasonable and ungrateful, like he should have just copped the racist comments because at least he doesn’t have it as bad as others do.

So Burt’s lawyer said it was incorrect the players weren’t seeking financial compensation in regards to the players saying the didn’t want a financial settlement.

I feel like it’s just a disconnect between what those mean. We don’t know what they wanted to it very well could have been compensation for expenses regarding therapy and legal fees or a big settlement beyond that scope.

I don’t know why Burt and his lawyer wouldn’t bring up actually details. Instead of simply saying “that’s not true”.

IMHO Jason Burt is starting to look like the absolute worst of the trio in terms of his total lack of self awareness as indicated by his social media postings in what is a very sensitive situation.

And a person who seems absolutely unsuited to his role as a player welfare manager.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I can't be bothered to read through every post:- Gil said 'No adverse findings against any of the 3 accused' ... AND ... 'we have committed to change our procedures wrt First Nations players'. WHY? if nobody did anything wrong, there's no need to change behaviour, and if there WAS wrong behaviour, someone must be held responsible.

The journo will respect his sources. Not sure what you expect to question.
The discussion was that the players went to the ABC because they were frustrated with the AFL not acting on the report. I'm just saying that the timeline suggests that they probably spoke to the ABC before the AFL had the report.

I reckon it was, but in a way paternalistically applied. Well, intentioned but failing significantly.the hawks wanted to break from the pre bateman era, but there was clear clumsiness and misdirected ‘help’
Hard to believe a club that was at the cutting edge of almost everything football when this happened adopted a 1950s post colonial mindset to dealing with it's Indigenous players.

Because there was an ABC article where it was splashed across the headline "he told me to kill my unborn kid".

Because the ABC contacted one of the coaches during the 24 hrs either side of him playing in a preliminary final for comment then published anyway.
I actually hope the abortion line or "kill my unborn kid" line isnt true.

If it is, then it's horrific to hear this in our society and it's f**ked up.

There were 3 or 4 Indigenous hawks players that came out and were involved at the racism scandal.

I had a gut feeling one of them going to be mentioned was Cyril Rioli.
