I dont usually like this line of thinking but its pretty plain today. Every slight chance they had took a wicket. Maxwell and Marsh playing on from widish deliveries, Warner's very tight LBW... So many times in their innings they have just landed clear or just missed the stumps. Not to mention McCullum just swinging wildly.

We bowled terribly early on (10 runs before a ball bowled ffs) and batted loosely and I still think they have been the better side today (no shit). But we'll have them on toast next time, in our backyard

Only the very best in cricket don't end up being 'downhill skiers'. Only the very best can absorb the pressure against elite players, on heavy batting/bowling tracks. The gap between our millionaire players in Aus and the barely played international cricketers in Afghanistan is not 'downhill skiing' it's what would happen with SA (flogged by India) India (flogged by us and England) Sri Lanka etc

In those kind of games, there is nothing you can do to pull off a win.
If everything little 50/50 chance goes against you, its extremely hard to end up with a win. its just the luck of the draw sometimes.
