I really hope we don't go after too many mature age/delisted players. We are obviously in a rebuild phase and we need to bring in the 18 year olds. Some of them may flop, but their ceilings are going to be higher than most players that have been in the system for 3+ years. Purely due to the fact that they're an unknown quantity.
Yes you can get some mature players that work out ok. But usually at best they turn out to be B grade players or worse. We have enough players in that category and we need to heavily invest in backing our recruiters to pick kids who could potentially be A graders.

The Gold Coast SUNS will submit the following list changes to the AFL prior to the List Lodgement (1) deadline on Tuesday October 31.

In addition to the list changes advised in September, senior listed players Daniel Currie, Trent McKenzie, Matt Shaw & Mackenzie Willis will be delisted.

List & Strategy Manager Scott Clayton said it was important for the Gold Coast SUNS and the supporters to recognise the commitment these players have made to the club.

“On behalf of everyone involved with the Gold Coast SUNS, we want to thank each of the guys for the contributions they have made to the club," Clayton said.

"We wish them every success and all the very best for the future."

The SUNS have until Thursday November 9 to lodge additional changes to its 2017 playing list prior to the List Lodgement (2) deadline.

GEELONG has delisted defender Tom Ruggles and utility Matthew Hayball ahead of the upcoming drafts.

But the Cats have committed to redrafting yet-to-debut Hayball as a rookie if he is not picked up by a rival club.

Adelaide has made several list changes ahead of Tuesday’s first list lodgement deadline.

Jonathon Beech has been told he will not be offered a contract for next season.

Crows General Manager List Management and Strategy Justin Reid thanked Beech for his contribution to the Club.

“This time of year is always difficult at football clubs when some tough decisions need to be made,” Reid said.

“We thank Jono for his commitment and professionalism during his time at West Lakes.

“He was a popular member of the playing group and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

Beech played three AFL games after being selected in the 2016 Rookie Draft.

The Crows have also delisted Cam Ellis-Yolmen, but have committed to re-drafting the 24-year-old in this year’s Rookie Draft should he be available.

Ellis-Yolmen has played 14 AFL games since joining the Crows with pick No.64 in the 2011 National Draft.

These list changes follow the departures announced earlier this month.

Adelaide has also committed to taking potential father/son recruit Jackson Edwards at this year’s Rookie Draft.

Jackson’s father Tyson played 321 AFL games for the Crows between 1995 and 2010.

Reid said the Club had lodged official paperwork to nominate Edwards ahead of November’s National and Rookie Drafts.

“To be eligible for a father/son selection we must first nominate Jackson ahead of the October 31 deadline,” Reid said.

“There are no guarantees for us or Jackson, but there is an ongoing commitment between the Club and the Edwards family that we will take Jackson in the Rookie Draft if he is available.”

Geez Ruggles is bloody stiff thought he showed a bit in his first season. How old is he?

Trent Mckenzie and Jackson Ramsey are worth a look for sure

I was impressed with ruggles last year too and didn't realise he played so little this year.
He is 25 I believe which is a lot older than I thought he was.

There are some serious list changes going on there, with some clubs getting rid of a quarter of their list. Seems strange in what keeps getting described as a shallow draft. We are at the shallow end of things with only 6, perhaps climbing to 8. It probably means a lot of DFAs and mature agers should get picked up, so it mightn't be a simple process of grabbing who we want.

It depends. I think if we are smart about it we can really add to our list. There are players in the VFL or others that have struggled with injury. If they get a shot they might lift a gear. Some players excel with better players around them or a change of scenery (see marley).

For some it just clicks for them later in life. Hanson is a must in my opinion. Some of these others like Ramsey, lennon, bewley, etc. could be worthwhile additions with late picks or a rookie selection. Not much to lose and fixes a gap in our list demographic
