Opinion I've lost my faith in Ken Hinkley

This. Saying something like we're 5th so it's still rosy is Iraq tier PR.

It really is ******* simple:
1. Acknowledge the ratshit performance
2. Say we're angry and we're going to fix it (i.e. make an emotional equilibrium with members and supporters)

The hardcore, rusted on types are losing interest. That's far scarier than losing the wagoners. We need to engage with members and supporters on an emotional level that goes well beyond fidget spinners and "he bac" bullshit Facebook memes.

I'm hardcore, I know my wife's bought me a Port ugly sweater for my birthday in a few weeks and I can do is think about how I'm going to be at my best game face to pretend I don't currently loathe everything about the place at the moment. It's not helping the automated emails I'm getting today about half price tickets to the final game of the year and Italian night, I'm over giving money to the club when it's clear the clubs leadership is not hearing a thing outside it's bubble. Hardcore supporter dissatisfaction didn't suddenly pop up as an emotional response to losing to the Crows this week, it's been a build up over 2 1/2 years of tripe, I started this season like a lot of other hardcore fans just completely distrusting the club and all they have done is re-enforce those feelings were right. Then we have Koch, no finger on the supporter pulse banging on about wanting Hinkley to be a 10 year coach after we smash some cellar dwellers just hastened along the mental checkout along with subsequent history repeating disappointing losses.

I'm also expecting an email from Keith Thomas later in the week to help try and calm us...

I don't hate Ken, I think he'd be a great Head Assistant Coach

But ever since Walsh and his best friend passed away his priorities and attitude have been different.

I just hope the club don't take a soft stance, we do exist to win premierships and we're no closer to that now than what we were come round 1 2015.

More than the general emotional trauma of losing friends, Phil was murdered and it's unfortunate to say that his dedication to his job had some effect on the mentality of his killer. Ken is still in that profession. I wonder if that has made him step back.

If so, we need to get Ken help. It's more than footy obviously. He can't live in fear that his pursuit of success will cause his loved ones to resent him. That's not healthy for him.

Oh yeah but I've stopped listening to those. I know he thought he was fixing things getting the march back from rundle mall and some sort of temporary game day village but that email said to me that I don't realise it's that people have tired on the on field results.

Well, I finally wholeheartedly agree with this thread. I've defended Hinkley semi-regularly over the past couple of years, but there's no point anymore.

I don't (and won't) hate Hinkley like some do, because I really believe that he's doing the best that he can. Unfortunately his best isn't good enough, and he needs to go. Now.
I don't think many hate him. I for one am grateful for a lot of what he has done for the club. I just agree that he has run his course and we all need some fresh people at the club to make us a success on the field again.

As heartbreaking as yesterdays performance was we wont sack a coach whilst in the running for a finals berth, but I suspect his papers may already be stamped unless a finals miracle happens.

I also like Ken and think he is a great person, but he is a country level coach, not AFL quality unfortunately. He hasnt found the balance between team defense whilst still having an effective midfield/defence to forward line transition. It is beyond frustration watching out style of football, reminds me of Choco's last few years.

This is exactly why we should sack him. It would be the biggest signal in football history that somewhere, deeply buried beneath bad memes and shitty marketing - the real Port Adelaide has a heartbeat.

I'm pretty sure the wind was pushing slightly in that direction.

So in other words, "Don't worry boys, if you don't mark it we can get an easy stoppage with a boundary throw in where the Bash Brothers can go to work....."

"See, Sydney do this. This is why we will do it."

Our kick ins are like our selection and player positioning policies. I am sure it will work. It didn't? Do it again, i am sure it will work. It didn't? Do it again. ..

id back a bassett change over

This seems to be the position many around here have

Only thing is Bassett has an overtly defensive game style

The Crows this year and the Bulldogs last year have shown that a really good attacking team will always beat a dour defensive one

Have a look at Carlton at what Bolton's brought to their game plan - do we really want to go down the same path ?

Liked for a number of things, but `Koch, no finger on the supporter pulse ' could arguably be the key comment.

Yeah, Ken can go volunteer at Oxfam if that's what he wants. But as the paid head of onfield business at Port Adelaide he should be treating football like it's the most important thing in the world.

Everyone does realise that the "more to life than football" quote was a direct reference to his best mate, Jarman's dad and Phil Walsh dying? It is a perfectly reasonable statement in the context given, and pretty poor that it is continually condemned on here.

"There's life and death," said Hinkley, "and there's real life and death. Football feels like the real life and death sometimes but it's not. In quite a short period of time we lost Phil [Walsh] and then Jarman's [Impey's] dad and then I lost my best mate in November at a time when maybe it felt like it was all caving in. That was when I realised there was more to life than football."

There's plenty of legitimate reasons with the way we're performing to question quite a few positions at the club at the moment, barring a dramatic turnaround, without the need to take a sensible quote from Hinkley which predominantly stems from his personal experiences and make some sort of ill-reasoned criticism of his commitment to the club.

When ken first came his mantra was we will never give up it has now deteriorated to we will never show up.
I dont wont Ken sacked i just want him moved on this club is heading straight back to the demoralized state we were in before he came.
A significant part of the playing group should be traded also as the culture of this club seem to embrace the idea of being shamed on a regular basis.
